    I think the idea with using the syringe is to put some pressure behind the resin and push it between the laminated layers, not to just fill the holes.

      Squeezing the bottle has the same effect….

      no , its for a measured dose to not flood the hole - the dowel being pushed in would bring the resin to the top - no mess

    Fascinating! We did similar. My Father in law even made new moulded timber supports for the back of the rotten shower room wall.
    I remember using some Marine (?) quality sealant to hold it all together...
    Thanks to Wilko, we even managed to wallpaper the walls with covering similar to the rest of the van.
    Happy days.

    Thanks for sharing, a lot of helpful information there and a great job. Did it make a great difference? The reason I ask is because I'm about to tackle the same job.

      No problem at all. Thanks for watching. Yes it made a massive difference. The floor is now solid and has no spongy bits. It still creaks, but guess you’re always going to have that with an old van.

    Great video. Very inspiring. Do you know where I can get some spare parts for mine? I was broken into and my key locks are just barely working now amongst other issues, tail lights faded etc

      Thanks for the comment. Sorry I struggle to see any second hand parts for mine. EBay and the likes probably your best bet. Good luck with your van.

    Hi,
    I am just about to carry out the same repair on my caravan floor, I was wondering how well it works and how well has it held up? Great video BTW 😉

    • @garrysgaragebuilds

      Thank you. Yeah it made the floor nice a solid again. It still squeaks a little, but never going to get rid of that. Compared to what it was it’s like night and day. Has held up so far. Will put video out if I come across any issues. Thanks again.

      Hey bud how deep did you drill the holes

  • @whatthashite
    @whatthashite ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video! Very helpful. One question I have is:
    1. Do you drill all the way through or to a certain depth of the ply wood? Thanks

    • @garrysgaragebuilds
      @garrysgaragebuilds  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you. You only drill through the first layer of ply and insulation. I was able to feel the resistance on the drill as I came against the bottom layer of ply. You could also find out the depth of your floor and mark it on your drill so you don’t go all the way through. Otherwise you’ll just loose all your adhesive through the bottom of the van 😂

    • @whatthashite
      @whatthashite ปีที่แล้ว

      @@garrysgaragebuilds why do they build with such cheap materials honestly? Caravan flooring should really be a quality timber item. Where can I find the green glue you use? It seems to be out of stock everywhere including Australia? Thanks again.

      Sorry for the late reply. I actually drilled 8mm holes and pumped in some expanding foam, let that set then done the floor repair. Must of missed that part out sorry.

    • @Eldermonkey25

      I have the same issue. Mine sinks in a corner when stepped on so is it best to do the same with drilling holes, put in expanding foam and then carrying on relaying new flooring after?

    BEWARE!! - Drilled the holes to do mine today - turns out some caravans have electrical wires running in the floor - mine is one of them!! Think I've gone through the cable to my water heater - another thing to add to the list!!

    Would have used the syringe for a measured dose below the top of the hole , pushed in the dowel to bring resin to the top - DONE - Also would have got the correct amount of dowels to finish the job - no clean up

    Not using the syringe means there is no pressure to force resin between layers. Your just filling the holes......

    If I have a Car and a Van does that mean I have a Car-a-Van? I bought the Van before I got the Car. Maybe it is a Van-a-Car? This is one of the deep mysteries of life that just annoys the shit out of me.

    • @garrysgaragebuilds

      To what length? It’s drilling holes in wood and filling it with something. It absolutely nothing! The floor needed fixed… I fixed it.
