My aunt used to make mulled cider this same way (non-alcoholic, of course). She cooked it in a crock pot/slow cooker and the longer it simmered the better it got.
Miss Lisa, great idea to use a crock pot for ease of serving without it evaporating or burning the pan. I make hot, spiced cider to serve to grown ups Halloween night as well as for Christmas. A bit of a hot bevie is greatly appreciated by those visitors who come in from the cold.
Just catching up on DAY 3 🎄. Great recipe that I definitely will try this holiday season! I think I can speak for us viewers Julie...we like seeing you 3 days in a row. Stay well.
I can almost smell it in Seattle. Mmmmm lol Stephen, the transition is great - from the 20-minute graphic back to the kitchen. You're editing is constantly getting better. Kudos!
Hi Penny! It's so cool that we are fans and supporters from the Seattle area. I'm north of Seattle. The internet makes the world seem smaller :-) Merry Christmas!
My very posh Great Aunt was known for the mulled cider she made for her various ladies clubs around the holidays. As a young adult I summoned the courage to ask for the recipe. I gained a whole new perspective on my aunt (and her refined friends); the recipe began with 3 gallons of sweet cider and ended with half a gallon of dark rum! Thank you for jogging that memory and giving me a chuckle.
We have homemade Glühwein and hard Eggnogg. We have Dresdner Stollen and Printen, Lebkuchen, Zimtsterne and Marzipan. Roasted Goose with apple chutney, Brussels sprouts and pommes croquettes. Sweet Christmas wishes to You and all.
I love your recipes! I hope you make more videos with your recipes and various holiday videos! Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc! They will be wonderful ❤! Beautiful blazer!
You have such a beautiful kitchen! I enjoyed watching this video.I wish we could have been able to smell the mulled cider! Merry Christmas from Vermont
You transported my straight into the Christmas spirit! Loved it! I normally have strawberry and lime cider :)) I adore it! Happy Holidays everyone!! xx
Thank you so much for the inspiration! Have a blessed🎄 Christmas to you and your family. Thank you for introducing Mapperton to us. Hopefully we can all visit your estate someday.
Love a good mulled cider, especially with rum- and how nice to have your home grown apple juice there. prefer this to mulled wine. We make it with a thick unfiltered cider from a local orchard, add star anise and cardamom, along with cinnamon, clove and orange peel. If out of rum, found that some Cointreau adds a lovely flavor
Thanks for sharing. Mulled Cider is also a Christmas tradition here in the Southern part of the USA. We use American style apple cider and cranberry juice. Also the Cinnamon sticks. We slice the oranges into thin round orange slices , then set the cloves into orange slices and set them in the cider to simmer. Gives the house a wonderful smell. You can also add port wine. My late brother use to add hot cinnamon candy to the cider to spice it up even more.
Julie, I love your outfit! I like a lot of different drinks during this time of year but I especially like adding Irish Cream to my morning coffee during the month of December.
very satisfying to make cider from your own apples. Alcoholic cider here is called hard cider. In Canada, where I grew up I always thought cider had alcohol, so I was always cautious about drinking this as a kid. Very confusing. Thanks for this recipe.
This looks delicious and I can only Imagine the aroma I’m your kitchen! I do mulled apple cider/wine in the crock pot (no alcohol). If I do it in the Dutch oven I heat up the dry aromatics before adding the cider/wine. I’ve also done it in the instant pot.
Just remember that all Cider is alcoholic over here. Be careful if you try the scrumpy Cider. Just thought I would add incase you don't know. Our drinking laws are very different to America. Alcohol can be purchased from age 18. 16 and 17 year olds can legally drink Wine, Beer, or Cider with a meal in pubs and restaurants. But must be purchased by someone 18 or older. At home alcohol can legally be drunk from age five.
Hi Julie, the mulled cider looks so delicious. I've never had anything like that. I'm going to try and find somewhere here Los Angeles, for something like this.
In the US, as you mentioned in another video, we have apple cider that is non-alcoholic and mull that. However, this recipe sounds good too! I would leave out the alcohol for my kids and I think they would love it. I am in Ohio and we love apples during the fall for cider, pies, sauce, etc. I am curious if you have different varieties of apples in the UK than we have in the US (macintosh, Paula Red, Granny Smith, Red Delicious, Yellow Delicious, Fuji and Gala are some of my favorites).
There are apples specifically grown for cider here , not eating apples , but recently cider making has taken a turn for single variety specialist making . Non alcoholic cider is not cider .
In the US, sweet or fresh cider is what you get when the apples are pressed; after it is filtered and pasteurized it is called apple juice. Hard cider is fermented.
@@elisabeth6108 all cider is alcoholic here , scrumpy is the name for rough cider and incredibly strong , farms used to sell it in large plastic cartons and we used to get horribly drunk on it at parties
I didn’t know cider was alcoholic either. Mom and I did a tour of England when I was 30. England had a heat wave that year and it was 80F in March. We got to the B&B and while mom was In the shower I went to the pub and guzzled down two ciders. Long story short, it hit me like a ton of bricks and I nearly fell over in the shower. Blistering hang over the next day as I didn’t drink alcohol! Be well, 🇨🇦
I was married and lived in Norway for years. They made something called "Glogg." It had cider, raisins, cinnamon, cloves, alcohol. I didn't like it at all. I love all things British, and you too, Julie...but will pass on the cider😳
I love the pictures of Mapperton in the snow!
Love the velvet jacket with ruffled blouse, too
It is so cool for us to have an American sharing those traditions with us! Thanks!
I love the way mulled cider makes the house smell so inviting and cozy
My aunt used to make mulled cider this same way (non-alcoholic, of course). She cooked it in a crock pot/slow cooker and the longer it simmered the better it got.
If it’s not alcoholic it’s apple juice not cider 😊

Thank you so much for making these videos this week! I enjoy vegan eggnog this time of year made with coconut milk and lots of cinnamon.

Very enjoyable & Christmassy. I have it filed for next year, too.
Great video Julie! Would love to see you make hot buttered rum!

Oh what a good idea Mr. Scott, cointreau! I serve it on crepes or toasted pannetone, but to cider, brilliant!
It will be nice to try it! Thanks Julie
Cheers! I'm inspired to try this ASAP... Merry Christmas!

Can you please explain the AGA. I’m in Houston TX so we don’t have them. Our air conditioner’s will be running Christmas Day. Merry Christmas! 🎄✨🎅🏻
Ok will do

I may have missed this, but do you have a good Yorkshire pudding method?
Can you do a non-alcoholic cider? , like heated apple juice with spices? I dont drink alcohol
How exactly does that thing make a snap sound ? I wonder if they sell those in the states ???

Julie,
A glass or two of that and I

My Grandmother made it one year and I liked it but the cloves must have put everybody else off. She liked cloves a lot. 🎄🤶🏻😊

So is the mulling part the heating or the spicing or?
It's heating wine or beer with added sugar and spices that is mulling so both
Mulling used to be putting a hot poker straight from the fire in your glass

Sounds like (mole) cider. Good to know it's Mulled-hard cider. 🤪
Why are you using weak cider scrumpy is what you want, or vintage cider 7.5% alcohol Westons is a good brand.
I would have called it British Traditions since I am in America. 🙂 I guess ours are American Traditions?
It is so cool for us to have an American sharing those traditions with us! Thanks!
