Hey Pete get ahold of me, I'd def like to meet you and I'll def keep you safe cause if your in danger then I'm in danger cause we together so I'm not even trying to walk that path id rather let you see how sad, beautiful, awesome, it is in my area, there's not much, but if you wanna get a look at life from a whole different perspective and make you feel extra glad that you live in USA , this will do that for you... Great place to visit but living here it's a bunmer in many ways, hard working genuine good people , who just get it up the rear from the govt or lack of... But in the end well you'll see, most are poor In this area but if you need help I guarantee you'll get help faster here then if you were back home in usa in a city where everyone just pulls their phone out whem someone needs help... Positive and negative everywhere nobody or no place is perfect but its beautiful I can tell you that. And your not far far .. I think it could tie in nice from the big city aspect to the opposite end , where I be .. far from city life...

For those of you wondering, Lalo is indeed doing tours. I am in CDMX now (Nov. 2023) and my family (all adults) had a wonderful day with him yesterday. We ended up walking around 8 miles total, including climbing up the Chapultepec hill to the castle. We went over 5 hours including a nice lunch. Took a bus and Uber when time got tight. Worth every penny!
Would you mind telling us the cost and how we can book him for tour guides? I will be going in January.
I just offered him several hundred dollars via his insta without asking him what he charged. He got back to me and we set up a date to meet in front of the palace of fine arts near the city center. He did an excellent job although he doesn’t do the sketchy parts of the city anymore.

Lalo is probably the most genuine and honest person I’ve ever seen in these videos. His sincerity and honest take on the current situation in Mexico is so spot on. There is no bravado, political take, or hidden agenda in his assessment of the things he is describing. The sign of a true good person. He sees life through clear eyes. Amazing. I would love to visit Mexico City again and have a meal with him one day.

As a Mexican from Mexico City, now living in the Mayan Riviera, this is a very good take on the city. I'm in agreement with other comments, Lalo is very much on point on the topics to describe the city, the conversations between the two are very interesting. I tend to watch videos of tourists visiting Mexico, but this one really caught my attention and consider worth of commenting; it is very positive to have a Mexican who lived abroad, which gives perspective, to describe the situation in Mexico. Congratulations.

As someone who's been to Mexico city a couple times, I've got to agree with you. I became interested in Hispanic culture after Mexico, so I decided to save up and go to Spain, since everything was much more expensive there, but worth it. I believe I rather Mexico's vibes, but I'd choose Spain in a hearthbeat to live there. The country feels rich, very rich, specially big cities, you only see high end vehicles, from beemers to lambos everywhere. Mexico on the other hand feels a bit like the US years ago, and I honestly love that as well. But as someone with kids, I'd choose Spain as I said.

I live in the U.S., and I’m really not happy with the changes that have happened here, especially since the Pandemic and a certain very well-known political leader, and am very afraid of what will very possibly happen when we have our next election next year. I will not live under a dictatorship, and I’m very afraid our country could go in that direction. Plus, our economy is in danger, and hasn’t been doing well, for The People at least, in the last few years, so that is of great concern as well. I’m looking at Mexico as I’ve been there a number of times and I love it, but would also consider other countries as well.

Interesting how everyone loved Lalo, his personality is very much the standard of middle class Mexico's big cities, well mannered, well spoken, well informed.
His voice/accent reminds me of that from a kids cartoon movie haha
Not just Mexico but almost any middle class anywhere.its funny people always want to think their citizens are different from other humans .

I live in Mexico City, and I generally dislike watching videos of youtubers with guides who try to oversell the city/country by romanticizing it. This dude is very matter of fact. I started watching this video expecting to hate it but i actually really liked it thanks to the guide.
1:07 might not seem like much but that man who opened the door for you is a great person for staying outside and making sure you go on your way & cross the street safely. My mother used to do that when I was a kid leaving the house or when she would drop me off at a friend's house she wouldn't drive off until she saw the door open and me enter the house safely. It could be nothing & I could just be overthinking as well, but that just reminded me of the kindness & care we have for each other. Stay safe everybody ✌️

Mexican/American living in the Kansai region of Japan near Kyoto and Osaka for over 20 years. I used to live in Guadalajara before moving here. Am seriously considering a move back to the West, not the States but Mexico City. Am excited by simply considering the idea of doing so!!
CDMX is epic but people really miss out on other incredible areas that are just as safe but cheaper and without the traffic. Consider Leon, Puebla, Queretaro, Merida, San Luis Potosi, etc. Medium and large cities without megacity problems and with strong economies.
Thanks for the recommendations! Am open to any area in central Mexico that is safe and has opportunities for my line of work.

Mexico is my favorite country in the world. The friendliest, most generous, outgoing people in the world. The history, the culture, the food, the people are amazing. I know it has it's big issues but that still doesn't take away from how awesome the country is.
I agree, the thing I really fell in love with in Mexico even being Mexican and visiting it since I’m born and raised in America was just the architecture and feeling I got being there. I’m very sued to the food and culture already since I’m Mexican even if it’s a watered down version of Mexico but I learned to love the bright buildings and stores, how most cities have a centro or zocalo where they all look very similar with the city name in big letters and a very clean park and shops around it. The beauty of the churches and just the way the streets are whether they are made from stones or pebbles or bricks. There’s just a lot going on with the way the cities look and then in between some of the old looking shops, you will have beautiful little restaurants or hotels.
I've traveled quite a bit and Mexico is definitely one of my favourites. Will visit again soon.
What areas do you recommend for families? I've been to Mexico 4 times, but just playa del Carmen with our kids, and cancun. Would love to explore some safer areas like Mexico City if possible.
A normal, beautiful and lively metropolis full of nice people going about their days. Yes, Mexico has its own problems like any other place does, but the Mexico portrayed by most of the western media is usually full of crap and fearmongering. They don't want people to get out of their first world bubbles and find out that there are other amazing places to live/visit. Cheers to all my mexican/latam friends.

I vacationed in CDMX last year not knowing what to expect but this city blew my mind. Truly amazing and with such rich history. This city is so underrated.

I had the good fortune for living in Mexico City for several months in early 2021 and it is a GREAT city. The people are super friendly, there are tons of things to do...and the food...OMG! The food is incredible.

Unfortunately, at that time, the EU wouldn't let anyone in, so, rather than rent an apartment in Los Angeles for an indefinite time...and, because LA was under lockdown, we decided to go to Mexico City and live there until the EU opened up again.

Yeah the amazing food totally worth the fact that Mexico City had over 1200 murders last year.
I was in Mexico City in early March and the taxi driver said that he was born and raised there and has been working as a taxi driver for 30 years now in Mexico City. He said that he still doesn’t know the city 100%. There’s still some places he’s never been too. Crazy to think how huge and sprawled out this city is
I was born in Mexico City and by the way, I was there last year exactly in that town where the “Cable bus” is. The place it’s been dangerous all the time, but when I was there, it was very quit and calm.

Antes de movernos a Cuatepec, vivíamos cercas de los indios verdes, jamás tuvimos ningún problema. Esa fue mi experiencia en Cuatepec barrio bajo.
Lalo is a sharp, funny, intellectual with a flair for adventure. And tons of style / swagger. Totally one of the most memorable people I have seen online or offline. Very sharp listener, precise answers but also very expressive and opinionated. They should make a movie character out of Lalo from Mexico 😃

I've been in Mexico a few times. Never in a fancy resort or anything like that. Everyone that I met was really nice. They were good wholesome people. Maybe I was just lucky. But, I love Mexico. If I got in a tight spot, someone would offer to help me and ask for nothing in return. These folks have helped inspire me to have the same willingness to help others, in turn.
I don't think it was luck, we are generally friendly and willing to help, not because our culture makes us be always obedient and respectful but deeply not doing in from the heart (like Japan) but because we are a family oriented culture where we are always close and helping each other so even is a foreigner we would like to help without expecting something back, we genuinely want them to have a nice experience while they are in their visit, and the more far from big cities you get the more friendly people is, sadly international media just show the n4rc0s violence making it look like coming here is a death sentence when actually the 99% of us are just good people who also suffers from those problems
Also if you heard people telling you my House is your house. That means that you're very welcome in that person's house.
Don't get surprised if you go to someone else's house and they offer to eat with them, that's our way to show you a great hospitality and that also part of Mexican culture.

I have been to Mexico and worked with many here in the US. They are just like anyone else, but the good people from Mexico seem to a step above. They tend to be absolutely awesome.

Very enjoyable tour! I had to grin when Lalo said he left Australia because it was the same every day - or something to that effect. I was there a few years ago, really enjoyed myself, but I kind of see his point. I'm West Coast American, very familiar with Mexican culture here and love it.
Texas here and i spent 2 years there studying with the University of the State of Mexico and i love this country. Traveled all over to many states and met the most amazing people, and ate some of the best food made by the sweetest abuelas. The border towns are a different story, but the reat of the country is amazing!

Mexico city is at the top of my list for favorite cities. Up there with Tokyo and Ho chi Minh. Amazing food and awesome culture. People were friendly and welcoming.
Of all the travels I've done, Mexico City was one of the best. Amazing food, great history & museums & pyramids, strong friendly culture, and beauty everywhere.
Was in Mexico City last year with my wife. We want to go back. Yes there are some rough areas (like Chicago or NYC), but there are some beautiful, wonderful, locations. We felt totally safe in Mexico City.
Mexico City is a real must go to see.
I also have advanced skills in speaking Castellano (Spanish)...not fluent, but advanced enough.
I love the fact that you guys are living the moment while experiencing it instead of just asking random questions to random strangers just to get likes, this is more of an experience for you both since he is local who is sharing his experience of loving/enjoys living in Mexico. We sold our business and home in Northern California five years ago and have been living in Bucerias Nayarit for four years. We feel very fortunate to have made that decision when we did. We have only spent a little less than a week in CDMX so far but are spending more time over Christmas and New Years this year and we can't wait! Like everyone else we were told what a dangerous place it was and we found it to be absolutely incredible. The people, the food, the architecture, the history, the culture I can go on and on!

I'm American (EDIT: In the sense of "United States Citizen" to be more specific.) I don't know why I was always obsessed with "visiting Europe" whenever I had time/money for a vacation. I went to CDMX in 2022. It was amazing.

I really recommend you to visit Queretaro City as well. It’s only 3 hours from Mexico City and it’s one of the safest, cleanest and most beautiful cities in Mexico 🖖🏽

I lived in Mexico City with my mother's family back in the late 1950s and 60s. A beautiful city! Wonderful climate, and the clearest blue skies. You could see the mountains surrounding from any point in the city in those days. Major film and TV production studios came from all over the world to film there. My grandfather would take me for long walks along the Ave. de la Reforma, and Chapultepec park with its colorful balloon vendors, goat cart and pony rides for the children. Mexico's best Mariachi performers would conduct open air auditions for gigs in the Plaza Garibaldi. Then we would stop for lunch at what was then the oldest restaurant in the western hemisphere Sanborn's. The city's greatest achievement was hosting the 1968 Olympic Games. I miss it very much, and remember those days every time I hear the song "Las Golondrinas." Yo recuerdo, Abuelo.

@pacocandano it's still an awesome city. All big cities have issues and México City is no exception, but it's a beautiful monster full contrasts.
As an aussie i got a laugh out of the main man Lalo saying australia was too quiet besides the animals trying to kill you. I think there's enough going on in the bigger cities. Mexico city looks exciting and has amazing architecture.

Been to both countries a couple of time and I agree somewhat with Lalo. Australia is particularl and México is peculiar, but in terms of food, party and culture, Mexico is second to none

@@RenegadeRangathat’s a misconception! Not everything the news tells you is real. There’s only a few places that are run by cartels. Mexico has I believe 32 states. Every state is different just like in the USA

Hands down, one of the best videos I have seen that portrays just the complexities/juxtapositions of one of the best cities in the world, CDMX. From La Condesa and Polanco to Iztapalapa and Tlalpexco. A city of so so many contrast, I really enjoyed how so much was also discussed, from the distrust of the police, corruption to the kindness of folks and walking back to your place at 4AM depending where you are at. It is perhaps the best video and most realistic portrayal of such complexities of CDMX and your friend Lalo really knows what he is talking about. I have been to CDMX many times and each time that I go, I always find something new because of just how enormous the city is. I am super excited! Thank you so much for this video!

Let me start off by saying that there is no other city in the world as welcoming as this one! I was lucky enough to spend a few months at a time there as a kid and still remember everything! It’s culture is rich! Proud to be Mexican.

I’m from Mexico City but never been there but after watching this video it has changed the way I imagined Mexico City thanks for the video Peter.
Lalo has to be one of the coolest people Peter has explored a city with.
I remember the first time flying in to CDMX, it seemed like you were flying over city for a very. long. time. It's huge! I spent a year in Sinaloa and a year in Southern Baja California. Mexico will always have a special place in my heart.

First greetings to all in Mexico. I'm not from Mexico, but I traveled a couple of times and I felt in love with the country and its people. When I was there I felt safe, of course you have to know where to navigate and the hours. But they make me feel so good. Hope I can return someday. Thanks Peter and Lalo for the tour.

Had the privilege of spending a day with Lalo, experiencing both the history of Centro and the authentic Mexico City embodied by the streets and stalls of the Mercado de la Merced area. Truly once in a lifetime that isn't available in a guidebook, and I walked away with a friend. If you're in CDMX, time with Lalo is an absolute must.

Mexico City is one of the safest cities I've ever lived in. Like, if you want to find danger you'd have to go looking for it. Not as dangerous as Portland or Memphis or even Cancun.
I LOVE MEXICO! I was Lucky and had a Mexican friend who showed me around. I would move to Mexico City in a heartbeat.

I was in MEX City by myself walking around the markets and honestly it was a great place. I felt safe and don't go where you aren't suppose to go. I don't speak Spanish but i was able to navigate the city market safely. As he said at 15:30 you gotta feel the vibe and what he said about the rich Mexican, you can spot them. They may look like they are from Spain.

Well done. Mexico is many different things. Like other great cities in the world, Mexico City has its good and not so good. But you learn quickly spending time there meeting folks and making friends that Mexican are damned nice people and the hospitality you’re shown is second to none. Mexico has a warm and kind face and the culture and cuisine top notch. 🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽

I was just there a few weeks ago. Incredible city, crazy traffic that somehow functions, fantastic tacos (surprisingly really good Thai food as well), I stayed in the Cuauhtémoc neighborhood and felt safe the whole time. Roma and Condesa are also very nice.

CDMX had the best japanese sushi restaurant ive ever been too outside of japan... and it was like 1/3 of anything "legit" you'd find in the states like LA or NYC... they have many actually because its a gastro city and you will find unique mix of mexican high cuisine and japanese/sushi... i literally was going every night the staff started joking about how i will eventually start working there bcuz i knew the whole process to a T, i just sit down w/o even waiting like most ppl and start chatting with the cook/chef that day, the waiter bartender didnt even have to ask he knew to pop a bottle of cheap but quality sake and two shots cuz we'd all be drinking LOL
the whole "dangerous" vibe is imo from the ppl that are actually from there kinda like ppl from NYC they would say the hood/ghetto/projects are super dangerous and to do this and not do that and they would NEVER go to that area but if a tourist went thru that being friendly the black ppl chillin would actually embrace and get a kick outta some weird person walking thru...
i went thru all the areas of CDMX from high end rich to the cartel barrios... you will find some dodgy ppl in those barrios but if you show fear like they said they pounce like predators but thats just life there but if you can hold a convo in spanish and use hood slang and drink/smoke/snort they will take you on some WILD adventures and ill be honest they couldve robbed me at any point and never even tried it...
you wanna know the 2 bad things that happened to me in CDMX, being a dumb gringo drunk with open container and walked thru like cop cafe area where they hung out, two followed me and bullied me into an alley at like 1am demanding i pay or go to scary mexican jail, luckily i didnt have my passport or large money i already spent it lol... i had like 20-30 USD but i finnessed them and got emotional almost crying, im a guy btw lol, like pleasssseeee here its all i have and slid 10 dollars in pesos out w/o them noticing and just took off running... they spoke perfect english btw, i heard one say in spanish tho "go see what hotel he goes to"... cuz that was a known hotel street, they wanted to hit me again another night im guessing but luckily i was checking out the next day and went to different area but it wasnt even scary just annoying cuz they wouldnt let me leave alley w/o money they kept boxing me in LOL... the even CRAZIER thing was i got my backpack ran thru by the "cousin" of the airbnb host in the rich neighborhood of Condesa... for 2 days everything was fine and there was security guard on ground level, we were on 3rd floor shit i left my door unlock those 2 days/nights with ZERO problems dude seemed cool and even smoked a joint with me the 1st day i got there... i came back kinda drunk one night passed out and in the morning went to grab some cash out my bag and ALLLLL my cash was gone, PESOS and USD... luckly i had a 100USD bill hidden for emergencies but they took my cards and my passport too... i knew it was his bitch ass cousin tho cuz there was obv no breakin AND they left my laptop and the backpack itself, thats a bitch move, i had the most stressful 2 weeks before i was able to get money routed to me and a flight home...
dont even wanna talk about how Embassy made me wait 3 hours, gave them all my info TWICE and a lady came down cuz i had no documents to prove who i was but i gave them all the security check info to prove it was me... for 3 FUCKING HOURS I SAT OUTSIDE in the waiting areas not even allowed to go into the US embassy part for her to come out and say sorry we cant find you in the system... WTFFFFFF... i had to get my friend to call up the american side of things and get them to verify me and make phone call and same lady came down few days later when i went that time like ohhhh yeah we found you... and we heard you dont have any documents thats not good at all im gonna fast track you thru everything... WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCKKK?! thats what i told you the last time i was here!!!!!

Noticed remember the guy standing by the door as you walking way? He was there to check on you making sure you were ok until he can see you anymore, that’s the way people in Mexico City are, they usually walk you to the bus stop or to your car less you say it’s ok I will be alright they really treat you like family that I noticed

You were lucky and got a truly knowledgeable tour guide in Lalo. He has his finger right on the pulse of what's going on in Mexico plus historical knowledge too. I agree with everything he said including the nuances of the culture that only home-grown Mexicans usually know. Thank you both for this great video tour. Hope to go back to Mexico City soon.
Peter, you should travel throughout Mexico during the weeks before & during the Dia de los Muertos tradition, so mid-October through November 2nd. All of Mexico becomes the most beautiful, colorful, magical and spiritual place ever. So much beauty, so many rich traditions, so much emotion and soooo much activity. It is amazing, spectacular, deeply spiritual, unforgettable and truly unique. Then is when you see the overlap of historical Aztec and indigenous traditions spilling into Catholicism. The two belief systems are harmonious, operating side by side.

Sobre la seguridad puedo decir que es buena en general , pero si por alguna situación te encuentras en una zona que intuyas insegura ; el mejor consejo es que te relajes , no muestres inseguridad o miedo en lo que sales de ahí , como mexicana nos pasó una ocasion que fuimos a "turistear "y nos metimos a Tepito y nos dió miedo , pero la misma gente local nos guío para salir tranquilos de ahí , aprendí que a veces tenemos muchos prejuicios 😅😅!
The ones that rely on tourism want you to be safe and you know it , it can almost feel like they're over doing it but that's a good thing better safe than sorry .

The family and I just got back from Mexico City. This video is a great representation of the city. We stayed in Juárez, in the Centro historico. Just like in this video, the streets are lined with trees, very calm atmosphere, and you really do always hear the birds chirping!

As someone who is a gringo and doesn't speak spanish besides a few phrases I can definitely say that Mexico City is a friendly and beautiful place. I wouldn't say its dangerous to a avaerage a person. I've walked through Tepito one of the more dangerous neighborhoods for many miles with no problems. Also you will see Tourists from all around the world walking the streets of CDMX. This place I think gets a very bad reputation that it doesn't deserve.
Wait a minute I hear different from other folks saying the cartel is everywhere and it’s not safe at all. I always wanted to go there but hearing all this makes me scared to go there let alone use my card there. I love the culture and food but if I don’t know anyone there then it’s gonna be tough to get around
@@Trever526the media does not want you to travel to Mexico! I actually think it’s more likely to get shot in a big city in the USA than a big city in Mexico. Just don’t act stupid. I live in NYC and I have been mugged multiple times. Traveled all around Mexico and never one bad incident.
A+ video! Your guide Lalo is tops. My only impressions of Mexico City were formed by old worn-out books with B&W pictures when I took Spanish back in high school during the 1960s. However, this presentation is so colorful and vivid, it's almost like I was there with you! And whoever thought up the idea of the cable cars to get around town was a genius.

Honestly this tour was amazing. I've been to CDMX so many times and I always fall more in love with the city after every trip. This tour brings back some amazing memories from my trip. Lalo seems super chill, will definitely be thinking about contacting him on my next trip to the city.

Beautiful City I visited in April and I was fascinated by this huge city with lots of history, culture, food and its people. If you visit this city you will love it. Really safe and nothing to worry about. I plan to visit soon and continue to visit more stuff. Mexico City is rich in history!!!
It's so refreshing to see a video like this one as opposed to the "border crisis " I hope it shows Americans that not everyone south of your borders want to move North. Many Many tens of millions of Mexicans and other central and South American people are very happy with their own way of life 😁

We were debating on traveling to Mexico City for an educational family trip as we homeschool. I may consider Mexico City again! We were hesitant at first but it really does look nice. There's several museums etc my kids would love.
It is a great place to homeschool kids. Lots of things to do.
I don’t have kids but I can say that spending time here in Mexico City will be incredibly educational and fulfilling
Only NY and London have more museums. All 3 are the same size.
There are about 100 museums. The murals, the architecture, the people. A great learning experience.
We used to be the city with more museums in the world, I think we are number 3 or so now. Definitely should check the histroy and antropology museum in Chapultepec.

There’s another channel called “En Los Zapatos de Monica”, she’s from Spain but lives in Mexico and she speaks in Spanish but if you watch it with subtitles, you hardly realize you are watching it in Spanish. She has done several videos on Mexico City and plenty other cities around there. She experiences a lot as far as the attractions and food and everything else so it’s cool to see what the cities actually offer.

I traveled to Cuernavaca a few years back, and we had to pass through/around Mexico City. We were at the very edge of the city, and you could still see how huge it was. The size of it is mind blowing!
