Thanks for bringing attention to these titles. I’ll read Young Mungo soon as I likewise read Shuggie Bain, and saw Douglas Stuart on his lecture tour.

I finally picked up an Anne Tyler book at a library sale - never read her and no reason why. Do you have a book of hers you’d recommend especially if never had before?

    hi, jasmine.
I hope you're well and im so happy you've started regularly uploading again
Some really interesting suggestions although ngl it does make me a tiny bit uncomfortable that the translated fiction that includes themes of Islam is often a negative/critical view of the religion. I sometimes wish people would suggest books with Islam in it without being written in such a critical way. I think there's so much of it around and it's kind of scary even if it is from someone who belongs to a culture where Islam is the main religion. I feel like a lot of people don't know enough about the religion, from people of knowledge, to criticise it fairly. ( i love your channel and you're one of my content creators I hope this is not coming across as mean). However, it is nice to see that your interest in translated fiction is so genuine. 🌸 i hope I haven't upset you by mentioning this I just felt like it was important to say. I hope you see where I'm coming from :)

Hi Yasmin! Thank you for your comment 😊 Which book are you referring to exactly? I completely agree with you, but don't think either of the translated novels I recommended explore Islam at all? But of course I see your point! Hope you're well x

@@JasmineReads pilgrim bell by Akbar. You mentioned it being an interrogation of Islamic faith. Maybe I miss understood anyways I’m so glad you agree. I felt a bit hesitant to stay something. Your reply means a lot. People always talk about translated fiction and it’s power but the translated fiction is often picked because it fits closer to western beliefs which is just counter productive if someone’s trying to read from different racial, cultural or religious perspectives.

@@yasminchowdhury3909 Ah yes! That's a poetry collection and not translated, I believe. But you make such an interesting point about translated fiction often bring picked due to it aligning with western beliefs. I've never thought of it that way, and definitely do read it to learn about different perspectives. Really glad you commented, thank you Yasmin! 😊
