    Nice overview! Reminds of the Kindle DX, their extra large kindle they had released years ago.

      Yeah, I never had one of those - but it would have come in handy for reading research papers in undergrad.

    I wanted this because I thought it was going to have OCR capability.
    Great video and review 👍🏿

    I'm glad it doesn't have page turn buttons. Just tap the screen to flip the page.

      Yeah, I feel the same about the Paperwhite. Just holding this in the hand though it feels like I'd want page turn buttons.

    What I love about the Oasis is the physical buttons. Just something more satisfying about buttons over touch screens.
    Edit: the notes feature is super disappointing. Doesn't work anything like I hoped. Should be able to seamlessly write and highlight right on your books pages.

      As a software engineer I understand the difficulty, but it's definitely a solvable problem and one I think they would have been really smart to tackle.
      Thanks for watching!

    So,basically if Amazon wants , just with a few software updates, this will become a perfect tool , noice buying it to start writing my notes as soon as it arrives in India

    • @KeliFancher
      @KeliFancher  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, but I try not to buy things based on hoping for future software updates. Sometimes they never arrive...

    I totally get it why there’s no page turn button. Physical buttons means probability of accidental click. Especially for scribe that allows you to write, the probability is even higher because sometimes you hold the thicker side to write. That would be annoying. Scribe is after all not designed for reading with one hand. Just like how Amazon went with unified thickness across the whole casing, unlike oasis.

      I thought like you when I first saw the announcement, but in use so far I think I disagree. But like all of these thinks, it's a personal preference and depends on how you hold the Scribe.
      So far, my most frequent position is sitting with my legs up and grasping it with just my left hand and supporting the other side with my legs. I'm then usually holding (or playing) with the pen in my right hand.

      @@KeliFancher in your case a page turn button is nice. I would imagine myself using it mostly on bed, backing it with my leg or just put it on the table. So no button should be fine with me. Still, gotta use to know if that’s true.

    My issue with the cover is the device is only secured in by magnet soo if I drop it I can already see it's gonna pop out of the case. Not cool for protection imo. But I do love my Scribe and hoping they update the software and release a more secure case.

    • @KeliFancher
      @KeliFancher  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The magnets feel pretty strong to me, but I'm use to magnetic cases/covers from my iPads. Maybe I've just gotten used to them - but yeah, the Amazon Scribe case is more for comfort and protection in a bag than to protect from drops.

    Howdy Keli, I was thinking about a reason they left buttons off the left hand side (or right hand side if it is upside down). When writing, the palm would hit the buttons and turn the page while you write.

    • @KeliFancher
      @KeliFancher  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a possibility that I hadn't thought about, but in my use I don't think that'd happen. But of course that depends on how you're holding the device.

    Any idea how the premium leather cover is different to their cheaper leather cover? They say they're both leather?

    • @KeliFancher
      @KeliFancher  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry I don't, I just tried the premium.

    How is reading tho?
    Especially manga?

    • @KeliFancher
      @KeliFancher  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's pretty great for reading, but if you're just reading a regular novel/ebook I prefer the size of the Paperwhite (as long as you don't need to increase the font size too much).
      It works very well for manga, but so far I prefer reading manga and comics on my iPad mini. It's just a bit easier to jump between things.
      A followup video will be coming in the next day or two.
