I like that you are being critical about it.
Omelas is not accidental, moreover RM recommended to read that book. Btw the book is actually a short story, you can read it and see yourself as well.
The movie Snowpiercer is not random as well. The director of the movie is Bong Joon-ho (he is the director of Parasite as well) who is very respected among the BTS members.
tbh there is barely anything accidental in BTS music videos, performances.. you'll see 😅

Spring Day is undoubtably BTS's most succesful song in Korea, having not fallen off the charts for the past 3 years. There aren't many songs with longevity like this in the current music industry.

Honestly there are so many Korean citizens who didn't realise for a while that Spring Day was written by BTS. Still with reactors from Korea, they'll be like 'really? that was BTS?'
In Korean culture there is a concept called Han which is about a sort of melancholy feeling. Its highly valued and the Korean public are firm in saying that Spring Day really encapsulates the feeling of Han so that's one of the reasons why the song is so strong in Korea to this day.

Recently Suga mentioned Spring day, talking about how they should make now a song like Spring day, that would provide comfort after a horrible event (pandemic),but in an indirect nonoffensive way. I think this comment kinda proved that on some level Spring day was written by thinking about the tragedy. I was always on the fence until this recent comment directly from BTS...it ws in the video where they discueed (maybe a week ago) their new album concept.

It's okay to be off or have your own interpretations! ARMY always has loads of theories and it's never 100% accurate. Some theories arw confirmed tho and love informing other people.
The reference towards the book Omelas and towards the movie Snowpiercer are very much so intented. The book "those who walk away from Omelas" was added to BigHit's website. They do this often before a comeback to give credits where they got inspirations from. Also in RM's verse he mentions "Snowpiercer" and has spoken about the movie multiple times. References like this are very very uncommon, but for BTS it's normal. They refer to a book or movie or something else in their main title track MV's a lot.

ComedianReacts it's okay! This is very different from what most people expect when they start learning about BTS which is why I wish people would not overlook them, especially the western media trying to make them much less than they are. Big Hit's CEO graduated with a degree in aesthetics and has great love and interest in psychological and sociological studies and issues. BTS was created around RM who has similar interests which is why the group kind of had a project/all-hands-in feel in the past. Now they have more money to do as they like but the group still likes to focus on inner growth and understanding. You will often see the guys reading such books and going into such topics in their lives, especially RM. It's one reason why from the beginning the members helped write and produce so much of their work. Big Hit also has TXT who is doing something similar but not as deep. Check out the trailers to their music videos especially! Big Hit also recently announced they will do a public chosen group with a focus on self creation coming soon. Hopefully this will change how kpop is made. You are sure to learn more as you stick around. Indie music is not seen in a positive way in South Korea due to some issues in the past. Singers are usually only allowed to promote if they are under a company. And usually companies control everything about the artists. Give DKDKTV's history of kpop video a chance. Please please! A lot of kpop fans don't know the history behind this genre at all.

I'm really grateful when people like you end up reacting to BTS. It's sadly quite rare to see someone giving them the respect they deserve or even consider them artists and not just machines, as the k-pop stereotype goes. The music I tend to connect with is the music I can sit here and read the lyrics to for hours trying to unpack what it means in general and what it means to me. I'm quite confident that now that you've started this BTS journey, you'll find yourself in that position a lot. Thank you for giving them a chance.

Something about bts videos: very rarely is anything a coincidence. Their production budget for their MVs are crazy high, and most if not all of the times, their sets are built from scratch; even the Idol mv (which is the rare occasion that they employ a lot of cgi).
So if they add something in it, more often than not its meant to be there. The making of the mv videos are quite interesting to watch.
There is also a reason why ARMY leaves nothing to coincidence. and its mostly because of the bangtan universe, their interconnected alternate universe. the bu spans many years and different timelines and includes music videos and even a webtoon.
so since the first bu mv, we've learnt that its all connected. but yes, Spring day is such a beautiful song and its the fandom's queen.
as for bts and bh, the only time they've been public with their charity work was the love yourself campaign that they launched with unicef. every thing else we know about their donations etc, have come from the ppl they donated to. like jimin who yearly donates to his old school, or yoongi who sent food to pet shelters for his birthday and hoseok who created an education fund for young, underprivileged women.
their sincerity had always inspired ARMY who have numerous projects running all throughout the year (see @OneInAnARMY if you're curious)

    • @anna-thealittek9662
      @anna-thealittek9662 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

About the interconnectedness, they keep on leaving hints to albums several years in the future, IN THE BACKGROUNDS of their videos. An example is Nevermind, written in the background of their first MV and painted on the chest of one of the members in a performance, all of the Wings shenanigans, the butterfly symbolism, save me-im fine and no-on being mirrors, etc.
They even went back and added glitches to a whole load of their videos for about a month right before introducing the concept of time travel to their storyline! That freaked everyone out for a bit. Since the time travel thing, they have mirrored their older albums, heading back to the very beginning of their music. We end up looking for references about whatever new album title they had and finding it all over the place.
BTS and Big Hit have made us detectives through sheer quantity of information they share ahead of time. A lot of the time we're wrong, or partly wrong, but it's shocking how often we're right.
A modern example of this is their latest album 7. We knew from the 'Map of the Soul' theme that we'd be exploring Jungian psychology, and we had seen references to persona-shadow-ego in the background of their music video for persona, and BTS often do 3 album series so we assumed the albums would be persona, then shadow, then ego. Instead we got persona on the first one, and both shadow and ego on 7.
Turns out they called it 7 because it was their seventh anniversary that year, there are seven members, the number is lucky, and because the album was a reflection of themselves. A 'map of their soul' one might say..

24:33 lol actually the Omelas and the snow piercer references are 100% and super intentional. RM actually recommended the book and BTS are huge Bong Joon ho fans and they've referenced the movie snow piercer in the lyrics of the song as well. BTW Thank you so much for reacting to this version and I always enjoy your inputs and reactions. This is just one of the songs and music videos that mean a lot to ARMY and I'm glad you were able to see the detail and thought that went into it. I'm looking forward to more BTS reactions. :)
34:31 Yes especially the tiger which actually represents Korea, and the other symbols are recurring themes in BTS lyrics and discography, especially the butterfly and the bee.
37:53 The view count is because not a lot of ARMY actually know about this video and they usually go for the simpler more speculative explanation video but her channel, bookish theories, xceleste and dkdktv are some of the more well researched and spot on explanations. These different channels have different specialties and focuses however. For the BTS storyline xceleste is the best channel, for cultural references DKDKTV is the best one as he is Korean, for Psychological and academic references and research Bookish theories is the very best and you just saw Italian ARMY's specialty in this video.

@@ComedianReacts Ahahah, don't worry, it's very normal for someone that doesn't know well BTS and the way they work react this way! But you are very respectful and open-minded, so it's totally ok! ^_^
I want to explain some useful things to you (sorry it's long but helpful - I hope!):
      - BTS has made a ton of donations, public and private. When they were still living together in a little home with only one bathroom, in 2014, they made a first donation to the families affected by the Sewol tragedy. That was the first time, and then they donated again before the release of Spring Day. They inspired us ARMY to do the same (some of them asked us to make donations as a birthday gift!), and ARMY organize every month a new donation project (search on twitter @OneInAnARMY , and here there is a map with most of the charity projects organized by ARMY in these years - hundreds! -> bit.ly/2LSq1Qo )
      - Spring Day is a song with so many levels of interpretation.. The lyrics convey a sense of grief or missing someone, while the video has a lot of reference to the Sewol tragedy, but the overall meaning is to stand with minorities. BTS producer and CEO did a tv-show after I published my explanation, telling how the shoes hanging on the tree symbolized minorities, explaining the Omelas and Snowpiercer references and how the video wanted to convey a social message for the weakest. The Sewol tragedy was a major "example" showing how the actual society sacrifices the weakest. If you read the lyrics of the other songs in that album, you will understand better the message ^_^ BTS often talk about social issues, because they too were discriminated against and were with no money at the beginning. The story is long, and there are videos that explain it!
      - I also wanted to explain that all BTS albums are inspired by books, and a lot of their videos and lyrics are deeply influenced by the philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche and the psychology of Carl Jung (this is a well-known fact, not an interpretation). They also make references to movies, works of art, ancient myths, historical events, astronomy, and practically every field of human studies and cultures! Following them, I have learned so much. Their album serie "Map of the Soul" is inspired by the book "Jun'gs Map of the Soul" by Dr. Murray, which explains the fundamentals of analytical psychology. Dr. Murray wrote additional books dedicated to BTS and ARMY to explain psychological concepts and the path toward loving oneself. BTS music is healing a lot of people.
      - I suggest you watch also my explanation of Black Swan (it's a lot slower and readable than this video, I promise!).. there is A LOT behind that song that is connected with their Wings album, Carl Jung psychology, the Black Swan movie and more! An advice if you will watch it: put off the CC, all my videos are already hard-subbed in English!
(But before this, react to Agust D new MV please. You will need also to react to some videos that explain BTS story and introduce every member ^_^)
      - Finally, I want to suggest you another great explanation (in english), it's for the "Blood, Sweat and Tears" MV. Please in the future react to it if you can! It will blow your mind, just as the Spring Day explanation! -> th-cam.com/video/5tlgAUE6yjg/w-d-xo.html

    Happy Friday!
In relation to Snowpiercer, RM does mention it in the lyrics "my heart is running on the time, alone on the Snowpiercer." Snowpiercer is a train that circles in an endless icy winter, it has no destination and no end. The train in the MV serves as both a further connection to the film, and it also depicts grief, as grief can feel like and emotion with no destination and no end. Suga of BTS has also expressed that he loves Bong Joon Ho's (who directed Snowpiercer) films.
As for "The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas" I'm pretty sure I have seen a photo somewhere of RM standing next to that book. It also isn't the first time BTS have referenced obscure works of literature.
Their music video for the song Blood Sweat and Tears takes a lot of elements from the book "Demian" by Herman Hesse. I really recommend watching Blood Sweat and Tears and checking out the explanation video "Blood Sweat & Tears: What Does It All Mean?" By Don't Worry I'm Not Afraid. BS&T is also a bit less heavy in topic than Spring Day is and there is great dancing.
Suga of BTS just released his new mixtape today. If you look up Agust D 대취타 MV the music video will come up, Agust D is the stage name he uses when he does solo work, it is his alter ego of Suga. I think a channel called DKDKTV is planning on doing an explanation for it since it has a ton of very Korean elements in it. Daechwida is a really fun song to listen too. If you want to hear a really good song with some great rapping and if you want to hear the sickest burns to ever exit someone's mouth, I recommend it.
Some of BTS most political songs are
Baepsae/Silver Spoon - which DKDKTV have an explanation video.
Am I Wrong - there is no explanation video about this one, but the lyrics say it really well. The only thing that doesn't fully translate is when Suga say "we are all dogs and pigs" that is referencing something a South Korean politician said, he wanted the class system reinstated and said that most people are either dogs or pigs. If you watch Baepsae/Silver Spoon first, then you will understand the other cultural references.
Not Today - the lyrics and Baepsae explained tell this one really well.
Spine Breaker - there is an explanation of this one by DKDKTV.
Have a wonderful rest of your day. Thank you for your reaction. This was a great video. I appreciated your insights and your honesty. I actually hadn't seen this explanation video before and think it is the best one. :)

I feel like BTS and Bighit do this thing I call "repurposing". Maybe they had an element that was accidental or coincidental earlier on, but they build upon them, respond to ideas and interpretations from fans to further build imagery and story.
In the case of this Sewol Ferry Tragedy connection, I do believe most of it is indeed very intentional, but some may just be themes they've been continually using for a while now, if that makes sense?

Everything in bts mvs are never accidental and often times bts gives little hents into the mv that connects to their story line.
My greatest example is in the short film Mama Jhope is abandoned by his mother, you can barely see it but theres a snickers bar left by his side later in the short film he takes a bite of a snickers bar and is instantly reminded of his mother. Then in another mv Fake Love Jhope falls in a pile of snicker bars.

Just how much they earn at their concerts alone is mind-blowing, not to mention their merch, advertisements, video on demand live concerts, etc. They do make a lot of money, but they give it back by making sure most of it will be used on their next projects because they don't wanna disappoint the audience. Every comeback, they do everything better than the last one.

There are videos that the students filmed and you can hear them saying they don’t want to die. The poor family had to watch as the government did nothing while their children drowned. Never forget.

It makes me so angry whenever I think about it. Every time I see anything about the Sewol ferry, I get so angry and sad. Why didn't they just ask the students to escape to the deck????
They would have survived. What use is a life-jacket INSIDE the cabins of a damn boat?
Even if the boat sunk, they would have been alive still - floating on the ocean's surface - but at least alive. That would have at least given them a couple more hours to save them all before hypothermia set in. And even then, all they'd have to do is pick up the students floating rather than search each individual cabin of the boat. Rather than having them all drown in the cabins, with their life-jackets becoming hindrances where they cannot swim downwards out of any exits to escape.
It's so frustrating. If the captain had even a little bit more common sense, then so many wouldn't have died! The answer is so simple, I just don't understand at all. Why ask the students to put on the life-jackets when they are USELESS inside the boats??? They are to keep you afloat when you are OUTSIDE of the boat. Goddammit, if the ship is sinking, obviously the cabins will fill with water - and then what use is a life-vest when the cabin is filled with water? All it's doing is pinning the students to the roof of the cabins as they drown. How does that help??? If anything it just makes it worse! They would have had to spend extra energy as they are panicking to remove them to try and swim elsewhere. Goddammit!!!
I know the captain is dead - I don't remember if it was suicide, or what, but damn. Isn't it common sense? Grab the lifejackets and move to the deck! Just tell them that!
"Stay still, put on the life jackets, and don't move." What kind of order is that! And those students, if you watch the videos of their last moments, they were so trusting of the staff. They so believed they were going to survive.
I'm sorry this is such a rant but it makes me so angry. They could have survived.

You are 10000% correct when you talked about people in positions of power. I have said, ever since I was a parole officer and saw it firsthand, that positions of power will always, always, always attract the wrong people. And the ones who want it the most are the ones who should absolutely NOT have it.

Are you still a parole officer? I’ve always thought based on what I’ve read and what I’ve heard from second hand experiences that parole officers might be the profession the most rife with this kind of issue. I can’t imagine doing that job if you weren’t a sociopathic person if you were surrounded by sociopathic or just mean and uncaring people. That would be a lot 🤔

I don’t know if you know his work, but Douglas Adams has a brilliant quote about this:
‘The major problem-one of the major problems, for there are several-one of the many major problems with governing people is that of whom you get to do it; or rather of who manages to get people to let them do it to them.
To summarize: it is a well-known fact that those people who must want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it.
To summarize the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job.’

@@ComedianReacts Oh, I quit some years ago. Which is why I have no problem mouthing off about it now. :)
*****WARNING: This is incredibly long and mostly just me ranting.******************
I was totally burnt out, stressed out, and a total b*tch because I was just angry at humanity (my caseload had a lot of wife beaters and child molesters and general POSs). It was a revolving door of offenders who didn't want to change, a system that was overburdened, and a crap-ton of red tape required to get rid of terrible employees. They just ended up shuffling around the problems to different units. (Yea, government policy!) So 20% of the workers did 80% of the work.
The useless seat-fillers that made up the rest of the department were one (or more) of four types: 1) cashing in on department connections to get a job with bennies, 2) coasting off of a promotion from a lower tier job, 3) had an inflated sense of ability and some idiot hired them based on their bluster, and/or 4) were there for the sole purpose of being a cowboy with a gun and appeared capable of dealing with "bad guys."
Clearly, none of these types are equipped to help the bad guys become good guys again. Which is, you know, the whole point of being a parole officer. Oftentimes, because they weren't trained properly or they were just not good at the job, they would escalate offenders instead of de-escalating them or get totally played and taken advantage of while the offenders went out and victimized someone else. Or they would cross the line and start to become "chummy" with offenders on their caseload (and it always, ALWAYS ends bad -- it ain't no Hollywood ish).
Meanwhile, I'm basically re-parenting 55 grown-a$$ adults who were intent on self-destruction and didn't care who they hurt in the process. The one guy I thought might actually exit my caseload and re-enter society as a changed man quickly overdosed on heroin.
The work was endless, the expectations ever-growing (especially if you were competent), and I couldn't shut my brain off at night. It was when I started having nightmares for a year that I knew I had to quit.
All the other "effective" employees either lived this job 24/7 and their ENTIRE life was criminals and law enforcement (literally, they were just swimming in it and they were irreparably jaded) OR, if they had a family or a life outside of the sh*tshow, they mentally checked out at work and adapted the motto "Save yourself some trouble. Just manage your caseload with warrants."
I couldn't live with doing either. Either I rose up the ranks even further (I was a lead officer at 26 -- also the weapons and evidence custodian, Violation Investigation lead, UA tech for the unit, and a trained Moral Reconation Therapy counselor) where I could make some policy changes, or I had to quit.
I really wanted my soul back, so I bounced.
Now people who meet me think I'm super nice.
As to the danger of the incompetency in the department: One of my supervisors was an absolute moron who had actually sued the department to get his promotion (he said they were discriminating against him when really he was just incredibly, dangerously stupid). So, I basically did his job, training new officers, resolving their misunderstandings of procedure, and trying to mitigate problems of the other idiots he had hired. And he would just trot around the office, earning that supervisor salary while everyone was putting out fires behind him.
It got to the point where he would say hello to me and I would straight-up tell him to go f*ck himself. What are they gonna do, fire one of three officers who can actually do the job?
I think the worst part is that the capable officers were given more and more and more because they were good at their job -- until they started to go numb and/or started to make mistakes and threw their hands in the air to say F it. One of those spinning plates was bound to drop. And take a guess who the fall guy would be, per department policies. Not the guys *making* the policies, I can tell you that. I got out before my number was up.
God Bless the good officers still fighting the good fight. They need the public support so damn bad, and for citizens to demand that the overloaded top tier start cleaning house and making policies that actually allow those bad guys to become good guys again.

Thanks for your insight! I definitely agree that the American ‘justice’ system is broken from the top down, and perhaps even further than that. America was founded on Puritan ideals and as a society, still gets off on the idea of punishment instead of rehabilitation.
Government institutions are being eroded by corruption left right and centre, and nowhere is that more evident than the private prison industry, which in my opinion is completely incompatible with the very notion of rehabilitation: make prison profitable and there is no incentive to rehabilitate. I think we should look to Scandinavian countries that have proven success rates with rehabilitation over punitive measures personally, it has to be more sensible than whatever broken mess we have now. 🤷‍♂️
Good for you for standing up for yourself and quitting; it’s not a single person’s responsibility to take the emotional burden of being the only competent person in a broken system.

As some people have already told you the reference towards the book Omelas and towards the movie Snowpiercer is very intentional. In fact, the book Omelas and its story are referenced in other musick videos of BTS as well.
It is theorized that Junkook (the youngest member of BTS) is representing the child in Omelas that has to suffer for the happiness of others in their MV`s and stories. You can see signs of it in: Blood Sweat and Tears, Fake Love, and ON (from what I have seen).
As well as a lot of other things with all of the members...
Believe me when I say, few things are unintentional when it comes to BTS/BigHit.
But it is good to be critical. And the great thing about art and BTS is that even if there are a story and meaning behind it, you can still find your own story and meaning in it. It can be your own truth and no one should tell you you are wrong.
Recommending a video or telling about a different truth is fine, but it`s wrong of the people saying your interpretation is wrong.

When you talked about censorship / Streisand effect not working, that is exactly how Army feels about BTS. You see in the early years from their debut in 2013 to 2017/-18, K-media would write very little about them. Today, Spotify puts them on very few playlists (usually only on K-pop Daebak) when many of their songs are classified as rap. The Brit awards removed the Best International Group category just recently. Rolling Stone magazine did not write any feature on the Agust D-2 mixtape. Radio stations refuse to play their songs. All these examples of 'shutting out' makes the global fans all the more determined to spread the word about BTS' music.

This song to me, means a lot. This video means a lot. Especially for the times we are in now, but it has spoken to me multiple times in my life. Listening to one of the most profound songs in my life, a song so poignant and deep. It reaches one of those feelings that can only be described as sincerely human. A song that has touched me from the moment I heard it till now. It is a song I will never tire of hearing and one that both embraces the darkest times and has an indescribable comfort to it. It reminds me of a quote I once heard. “It scratches that part of my brain that doesn’t believe in allowing good to exist” much less good in the face of evil and horror. And it is because of this shared tragedy that this song will forever mean so much to me. It is so beautiful and so healing. The pain of thousands of millions of people can be shared across all of the world. A silent army, marching toward a better world, even amidst the horror of our current one. It’s a masterpiece born of pure love and heartbreak... and I haven’t felt such a healing feeling in a long time.

Personally I related to this song because I used to have suicidal thoughts and the one thing that always stopped me from crossing a line I could not take back was to think from the perspective of the people that loved me, so when I hear this song, it's as if my family and friends are singing to me, telling how would they feel if I was gone. So obviously this song is a very special song that I save to listen to when I go down in that rabbit hole.

This was a difficult watch for me (not due to you but due to the explanation vid's content!), but I've finished! I do believe the animal symbolism (tiger, bee, wings, etc.) are a stretch, as are the fire/match as Jungkook's "death" and childhood scenes (esp. Jin in the spiral staircase) as "memories" of the deceased students-I find the latter to be a symbol of lost moments, those left behind, and the youthful experiences of friends/family who continue to live and thus grow up (i.e. piercing Jimin's ears).
As others have mentioned, the Omelas and Snowpiercer allusions are indeed true. An awfully wordy-and poorly worded-comment, yet thank you for your respectful insight! :) I'm off for something "cherry" now, too.

im very late watching this video but one of the reasons this mv is so striking to me is that it’s almost as if it’s several different storylines rolled into one. the whole song’s theme of loss and mourning along with the music video are directly in relation to the sewol tragedy. i feel like for korean people in particular the song will always represent it as such, even if it hadn’t been as deliberate as it was. theres also a korean word ‘한’ (han) which although has no direct translation symbolises a state of mind, or rather a feeling of sadness of great intensity but with an underlying feeling of hope. according to korean fans, spring day encapsulates 한 in the most perfect way. as well as the sewol tragedy’s references and the concept of loss, both omelas and the snowpiercer theories are both quite prominent. there are other videos more focused around those, but they’re both very much there. ‘the ones who walk away from omelas’ is a short story written to highlight the idea of life being a trade off, one that’s happiness depends on the suffering of others, or one other as it’s portrayed in the book. the mv supposedly portrays jungkook as the child that’s sacrificed, and some scenes that show him isolated in places we see other members together. it’s quite subtle, but definitely there. namjoon (RM) also recommended the book to armys. the snowpiercer is featured in the lyrics themselves, translating to being ‘alone on the snowpiercer’. as the video said, the movie is based around an ice age of such, where the only survivors travel on the train (the snowpiercer) indefinitely. the whole idea of them existing in an isolated place in a neverending way is quite clear. i could talk about this for much longer but i wont before this comment gets far too long. but there are places online you can read about the snowpiercer and omelas conceptually that help link them to the music video more clearly. it’s safe to say that barely anything in bts’ music videos is accidental, and that this definitely doesn’t go unnoticed by fans... they’re like detectives honestly. but yeah. glad you enjoyed the music video

I really hope more people take the time to understand why their influence is that huge instead of stopping at they facade of pretty boys and cool dances, pop culture has gotten stuck on this for too long. The amount of people I've met through them that literally owe them their lives because they found them when they were at the verge of giving up is so worrisome and speaks volumes of how bad society is at providing support systems and being open and understanding about mental health. I don't owe them my life, but I do owe them my future and daily strength to carry on and many friends I've been able to meet or even reconnect with and break down the emotional walls we put up with each other. They help provide a safe and fun space.

24:47 budget? yes. the desire to bring the point across? yes. it's been widely known that the MV is partly inspired by The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas, just like Blood Sweat and Tears has been inspired by Demian, and the current series of albums have been inspired by Carl Jung's Map of the Soul. Do not underestimate how great of a storyteller Bangtan is.

They always goof around on set and it's a nice look into their personalities too. Make sure to not go to the official channel though, the older videos don't have subtitles.

The Omelas book is also referenced in fake love, when JK escapes and the water flow, the room on fire, etc etc, those are their fears exploding bc the child escapes (sorry 4 my english xD)

Hey, just letting you know, Omelas is definitely legit. It's quite known in the fandom. Later in their Music they used references to other books such 'Jung"s map of the soul' or 'Demian' ☆♡♡

I know others have already commented on how the references to Snowpiercer and The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas as in fact intended, but I'd like to add that in Omelas's case, the story isn't actually that obscure. I read it as part of my curriculum in high school, as well as in college for very different subjects. The prosperity of the utopia hinges upon the child's suffering, yes, but the citizens are all aware of this. Once each citizen turns a certain age, they are taken to see the child and must make a decision of whether or not they can still live in the utopia knowing the truth. If they can't justify it for themselves, they walk out of the city into the dangerous landscape beyond. It's an interesting view into morality and the sacrifice of the one for the sake of the group, which ties in with the themes of government corruption and negligence of the real life tragedy. I also like to think that 'You Never Walk Alone' has a double meaning that even those who walk away from Omelas because of the awfulness they've seen aren't alone because there are others who feel the same way, much like the victims' families and the general Korean public who are aware of the truth stand together against the corruption and erroneous media coverage.

    Hey loved the reaction
I think probably why people are torn between those 2 explanations is because this video more details on the background of the issue and video level references
The other one is more of an analysis on lyrics and relation to the tragedy
If you want to, react to the other one too! There maybe few repetitive points but still it's worth it!
Also don't feel pressured to react to triggering stuff. Mental health is always the first priority 😊

The books and Movie references are certainly not a coincidence...this is a common theme in BTS videos and albums they often refer to books or films or other art and often talk about these in their interviews. I agree there are often things that people read into the videos etc which may or may not be there and that is part of art that it can apply to many things. I often think BTS music etc has so many layers there are often more than one way to interpret the lyrics and often the music video may or may not relate totally to the lyrics of the songs (for example the storyline music videos which are sometimes more loosely connected to the lyrics)...but even in the lyrics there are often many layers especially I think in the rap line songs. For references to the books and the symbolism and meanings they pull from those I would recommend watching Bookish Theories explanations because as her name suggests she is good at reading and interpreting the books that BTS references and pulling the symbolism they have used from those. I especially like her explanations for the most recent albums based on Jungs Map of the Soul which is reflected in the names of the Albums but she is good at anything related to symbolism really. My favorite explaination videos are by DKDKTV for anything to pull our the Korean symbolism and lyrics, Bookish Theories for the book/movie/dance etc symbolism and Xceleste for anything that is storyline theories and general videos to learn more about BTS. Spring day is one of the few videos where I would recommend you watch more than one explanation video. This focuses a lot on the tragedy which is fair but others focus more on the book and the movie that are represented and how they can speak about the state of society and government etc. I think both are probably true and both were meant to be there....as I said I think there are multiple layers here.

I watched snowpiercer after watching xcelests explanation of Spring Day (which is my favorite explanation you should watch it th-cam.com/video/4Xs-WyzB_zg/w-d-xo.html) and I fell in love with the movie. One if my favorite parts was when Namgoong(a Korean guy and a main character) sees a snowflake coming inside the train, which wouldnt be possible in freezing temperatures, so he believes the earth is warming up again and that there could be life outside the train; "Snowflakes keep falling down" ~Spring day. Sorry for any grammar mistakes💜

    Not the case here, but,
overanalyzing things is definitely a issue in the ARMY, but is also fun, I see as in seeing dif pov. You just must be careful by remebering that it could be just the interpretation of a fellow fan, not a official statement...

  • @juniebnfs5963
    @juniebnfs5963 4 ปีที่แล้ว

To be honest sometimes analysis from armys are a bit on the "stretchy" side lol but most of the time it's actually accurate in one way or another! we've had hints on wallpaper, tiny writing on walls, fake tattoos, something written in a journal, a picture, a scratch on a door, a background music/noise... so we're sometimes overanalyzing but they really do make things really detailed and complex! Love your reaction!

and everyone already said this but it is really important to say that 99% of the time when we catch a reference to a book or a movie it's very much a volontary connection!

    Hi!
I feel good knowing that someone can be critical but also respectful when it comes about the meaning of BTS' arts (songs, music videos, etc) like you. There are people in the comment section that have told you this but let me put it my own way, too, for your consideration and also things for you to check and research if you have time. :D
BTS always goes that deep and meaningful (sometimes even educational) when it comes to their songs and music videos, even other arts/contents that they released. One of the best examples that I can think of is their Maps of the Soul album series (Maps of the Soul: Persona (2019) and Maps of the Soul: 7 (2020)). Those two albums are inspired by Jungian Psychology (Persona, Shadow, and Ego) to the point that those three are the intro, interlude, and outro of their most recent album Maps of the Soul: 7 (Intro: Persona (by RM), Interlude: Shadow (by Suga), and Outro: Ego (J-Hope)). Not just that, their music video for ON (title track for Maps of the Soul: 7) have biblical imagery alongside some scenes that are inspired by some movies like The Maze Runner series. They also have songs like Dionysus, inspired by the Greek God Dionysus himself and Black Swan that are inspired by, one and only, Black Swan the movie/ballet performance.
If you go to their older album, which is Wings, and checks the music video of Blood, Sweat, and Tears, it also has deep meanings and a lot of imagery as well based on Demian, a book by Hermann Hesse.
However, it is okay to be critical about BTS and the meaning of their arts at first. Thank you for checking out my boys. I hope you are more interested in them each day.
P.S: They will release a new Japanese song tomorrow.
P.S.S: a member said that there will be a new album released on October so watch out on that month.
    Regard,
    an ARMY. x'D

Honestly its interesting how you first didn't believe the 2 most legit theories about omelas and snowpiercer. Like those are mentioned in the lyrics and shown in the video. The no vacancy changes to vacancy when jk goes after the others when they decided to leave omelas. Namjoon, who wrote it, whatched snowpiercer and talked about it. Many ARMYs read The ones who walk away from Omelas just because of this video. But of course it's sometimes difficult to see the whole picture right away.
It's very cool how interested you always are. Although it is a sad topic I wanna say how happy I am to have found your channel.

Late comment, but the Sewol Ferry tragedy was EVIL. The saddest thing is that many have suggested there were survivor students inside who found pockets of air and might have been alive for days, but no one came to rescue them. They may have starved instead of drowned. Everyone in SK was HORRIFIED by this incident.

    • @lastofthelapras
      @lastofthelapras 3 ปีที่แล้ว

And everyone in SK who saw this video immediately knew what BTS was referring to. It may seem like a subtle message, but not to South Koreans. People have said that BTS got the President of SK fired, because this song was released during an impeachment trial which happened because of the Sewol incident, and has been so influential it's still on the chart four years later.

The thing about Artists and donations are that if they don't make it public people or make private donations people will scrutinize them for it. Sadly it's a double edge sword. You can either do something and get called out for it or don't do something and get called out for it.

i guess ARMY who have known them for a while longer knowns them better so we are more confident in our interpretations :) I really love how much thought they put into all their work
even with the storyline, RM (Namjoon) has said that someone got very close to the reality with their explanation. (although that has a lot more space for us to theorize as its a fictional story)
