@@BillsWargameWorld My dad and I took a trip to Gettysburg the other year and visited BOTH of those places. They are both great stores. Here in NoVA there are a couple of places that sell Warhammer and Warlord but nothing I would call a Hobby Store, or like this...may need to do a road trip.
Very true. They are a disappearing breed. Here in Toronto they are vanishing like Bison on the prairie. Hang on to them and keep them close to your heart's.
Great store! All of the hobby stores like this in my area of NJ are gone now. I loved perusing the the old stores when they were here and ALWAYS walked out with something. Thanks for the tour Bill. Be well
Wow!! Awesome to see this is still in existence. Felt like I went back to the 80s. Love it God bless you all and many many more years to come. If ever in the area I will for sure stop to shop.
Oh god, I could spend hours in that shop going through the stock... That stock of vintage hex and counter games... My wallet is happy there's an ocean between it and the shop :-)
I used to visit shops like this as a kid. My dad traveled a lot, and I always seeked them out in every little town. This video really brought back some of those memories of exploring a well-worn old school store like this.
I live in Pittsburgh and it kills me that the best game store in western PA is in Ligonier! Good on him though. His store is a gem and such a throwback to what you'd find 30 years ago.
What an absolute joy to see this. I use to go to Ligonier every year for their autumn festival with my family and this was always my favorite place to go. Glad to see Norm's smiling face again, even if I am half a world away!
This shop is incredible. I live in Toronto,Ontario and this type of hobby store, that I used to visit regularly as a kid is just a memory. I had one favourite shop, Keith's Hobby Shop. When I got into collecting 1/72 Napoleonics in the early nineties, it was a great resource with a great group of guys who really knew the hobby world, and could always help you find figures, paints and just great conversations and exchanging ideas. They closed around 2009. When the stores close they leave such a hole.Yhey are disappearing like Bison on the prairie. Very sad. I would very much like to visit this shop one day. Great review.
Have always admired Norm's painted figures at the HMGS East conventions (and purchased a few). Fantastic looking store. Thanks for that great look-see video. I gotta visit there some day!
This is the sort of shop I wish existed in my home town. Just a huge stock of miniatures, wargames, board games, and RPG material. No frills, no Pokemon tables, just stock floor to ceiling. I don't play historical wargames myself, but this place looks like a Mecca for players. And they even have an Armorcast Reaver Titan... I haven't seen one of those in decades! Thanks for the video!
What was it called? I lived in Van Nuys/North Hollywood back in '90-91 and I remember going to Black Watch, but I think that might have been in Pasadena, not Burbank. There were a lot of great stores in the Valley back in the day.
I saw these kind of stores when i were to the Netherlands as a kid from Sweden and it made me quite interested, no such special stores here back then but this one must have the ones i saw there beaten when it comes to the sortiment, stock, supply, i use all three words since i don´t know which one applies atm.
I have a shop up the road from me about a 35 minuet walk from my house, it sell several brands of model kits and soldiers. I would love to go to this store.
I could see dropping several years' income in a single visit. Brings back memories of the amazing hobby shops of my childhood in Chicago. I was poor then, and I'm even broker now LOL. But looking, so far, is free...
He has so much. I love to see that. We have quite a few local shops where I live. No where near the selection thou. Usually wait for our local gaming convention because we have great vendors coming from out of town that always have unique items. "Siege of Augusta"
Nice little video. You showed that he had a lot of varied stock, and highlighted some beautifully painted items. There will always be people who complain that you didn't focus on certain things enough, but honestly despite how small the store is you could have spent half an hour in there and not covered everything. Heck you could have spent half an hour just focusing on the painted items. That is the kind of place where you either go into knowing exactly what you are looking for, or spend an hour or so checking everything out and poking in all the corners.
I just picked up The Forts of Colonial North America from osprey includes Fort Frederic,Fort Ligonier, Fort Bedford, Fort Pitt,Fort Necessity, Fort Augusta and others
Ligioner is on the very very far outskirts of the Pittsburgh area, and is kind of a destination for weekend trips/camping etc for lots of Pittsburghers. A great little town
Have never been there but suspect its the Lads behind the Counter that make the place. You'd start talking about paint or figures and before long you are swapping stories and the afternoon has just gone.
Why are the most well stocked hobby stores in the most remote places ? I would kill for shop like this in downtown Philly. Most places in big cities end up being Magic card /board game shops with a few other products added.
Nice warhammer selection just a shame there seems no room to play there. Even tho I live nowhere near this store, I do like the thought of shopping where I play 40k or old world. If I lived there he would likely be where I went to get kits if a normal store didn’t have them.
Slow down the panning. A few tips 1) don’t swivel in any direction. Get steady shots of the isles (10 seconds is enough) and close up stills of the displays (10 seconds) 2) you can walk forward with the camera pointed forward in the direction you walk, but avoid aiming the camera to tangentially to the direction you walk.
I love the shop. But I haven't visited, let alone bought something. Your video will prompt me to do both. And I'm thinking that if I mention your name, Bill, I'll get a 10% discount.
Wow! What a throwback to the golden era of gaming!

Like a dream to a hobbyist like myself.
