I noticed that in discussions between Muslims and Christians, a question along the lines of "Where did Jesus say 'I am God' in the Bible" arises from the Muslim side.
- On one hand, the question is part of a Muslim attempt to disprove the Divinity of Christ.
- On the other hand, the Muslim view is that the Bible was corrupted. But in this case, how is it relevant for the Muslim person what the Bible says at all? If it were corrupted, then it would be unreliable. If you believe this, isn't it irrational to quote the Bible in support of any point whatsoever? Shouldn't the Muslim quote the Quran, or anything else that they consider reliable? (To be clear, I do NOT believe it is corrupted, I am just saying this to make the point).
- Or is the Muslim side merely trying to say that the Christian belief in the Divinity of Christ is actually _inconsistent_ with the Bible, i.e. Christians have not bothered to look at their own book? Respectfully, I'm sure everyone considers this a very arrogant claim indeed, so presumably the Muslim side is not taking this position.
In the hope of promoting more constructive exchanges between us, let me make the following point.
- One of the Christian claims is that the Bible is inspired by God.
- As such, any claim it makes about God is true, irrespective of how or who is reported to make that claim in the Biblical narration.
- As it happens, however, both the Biblical narrator claims Jesus is God; and Jesus is reported to claim Divinity for Himself, and to require worship, in the narration. Indeed, He is also reported to have been worshiped.

But even more so, the Bible is not the only source of authority for me. As a Catholic, representing the majority of Christians, I believe in the authority of the Sacred Tradition, which is the deposit of faith passed on by the apostles of Jesus to their followers, and so on, until the present day. I also believe in the authority of the Magisterium of the Church, which consists of the Bishops and the Pope, who are the living successors of the apostles of Jesus.
All three sources of authority, unequivocally and unambiguously state that Jesus is God.
I hope this is helpful to promote more productive and respectful conversations.

I can quote the Bible because I believe it is the inspired Word of God, therefore it is true.
But if one does not believe the Bible to be true, why quote it at all, why quote something you believe to be false?
If it is to show that my believe is inconsistent, that does not lead to a productive conversation. I can assure you that the Christian intellectual tradition going back 2000 years is indeed very consistent.

In all African communities, we believe in the only one supreme being and all the good and bad commendiments before the advent of Christianity and Islam. The teaching got distorted with passage of time( our sent prophets).
