Currently On Death Row: Cool C! Pioneer To Locked Away Stunted Growth Music

- Today’s feature is a rapper that had everything laid out in front of him at just 19 years old. Besides the obvious like 4 finger rings, gold necklaces, vintage watches and the latest fashion, he had opportunity. It’s one of the most special words in language period, because it means everything to every single person that’s ever walked the earth. T Cool C no matter how you look at his outcome is a pioneer of at least Philadelphia hip hop and in some ways hip hop in general as a part of the Hill Top Hustlers who wanted to give opportunity to Philly rappers often overshadowed by the bright lights New York has had on them literally since the conception of rap music. New York has always dominated east coast opportunity and guys like Cool C, Jazzy Jeff, Steady B, The Fresh Prince aka Will Smith and Lawrence Goodman had a plan to change that. Cool C was the fresh face for hill top, that came out the gate throwing darts at New York rappers the Juice crew on his debut single Juice Crew dis that gave him the initial opportunity to have a voice in hip hop as a Philly rapper. He then released his radio debut “Glamorous Life”, that peaked at #11 on the rap charts and drove anticipation for his debut album. Around that time Cool C was being looked at at a major pillar in the foundation of Philly hip hop, and many expected him to become a great representative of that, with enough style and personality to be much more. But things didn’t go as expected, leading to a rap career that wasn’t moving like many thought and expected, especially Cool C himself. He’s currently still on death row after having a few stay of executions in 2006 and 2014. Life was glamorous, until opportunity to be the rapper he thought he could didn’t move fast enough and it took one of hip hop’s pioneers away for good.

A pioneer of Philly rap, crazy life can lead to this after so much opportunity.
You should do JoJo Pellegrino...white Italian from the other side of Staten Island the mafia side Staten Island is broken into two parts where the projects are and where the cops fireman and mobsters live way out in South Shore and I think he had a Wu Tang connection also he's a good rapper
How about doing another Philly pioneer Steady B
Can you do Queen Pen next?
@coreyhendricks9490 I agree especially since they both committed that unfortunate robbery t
@@starlettawilliams93 It's a sad for them but the legendary of the Philly pioneers lives on
The lesson I got from this: Don’t let who you are get in the way of you! It’s not worth it. Believe me. I know.
💯
He was broke that's why his career was going nowhere don't let all that bling fool you... And I doubt the state will kill him the governor of Pennsylvania haven't sign a death warrant since 2001 they said it's in humaine
Great advice.
That is real knowledge my friend,I too got in my own way,the important thing is learning from it.Stay up my friend✌️
Glamorous Life is still a classic.
It will always be a classic
Fact
Another Philly group 3 Times Dope would be nice. They were all part of that era with Cool C. Also Larry Larr.
Funky Dividends!
@spawn_blacksmith Yes Sir!!!
@@spawn_blacksmith Also "Increase the Peace".
Larry Larr was ill!

I was and still am a big fan of steady b and cool c...Hilltop hustlers....They maybe locked up but never forgotten by me....❤
Did steady b really snitch on cool c ?
@DiceB That's what the narrator says...I do know Steady B got life though.....I still listen to their music...
But damn, steady B snitched on his boys and still got life in prison
@@yell0wberry If it's true, the FEDS lied to Steady B.
I'm from NYC and wel loved them 💯🖤 y'all definitely put the Gumby on the map 🤣🔥 nuff respect
Man Cool C has NEVER been forgotten about! If you know about real hip hop, you know the hilltop hustlers still ring off at most real hip hop jams! Trust me! I literally just played earlier this week glamorous life, I gotta habit, bring the beat back, and a few more from the hilltop. I’m from NYC at that! This proves their music still lives until this day!
Yea they are forgotten, he has some good singles for the time…. What’s not forgotten is that they are a perfect example of when keeping it real goes wrong!!!
@@hadbl12 please go troll elsewhere! Go make your own comment bashing that man!
@@DJXcaliburBashing that man? He killed a policewoman while robbing a bank. He bashed himself
@@vernonf1951 don’t get yourself blocked as well! No matter what someone does in life, people change! Even in prison! So any negative comments about that man need to be placed under YOUR OWN comment! Not here! That was not the basis of my comment! So go elsewhere with that mess!
Hill top
Cool C's album " I Gotta Habit" is a classic
All Hell Freeze!!!
Facts
C is Cool was my jam! Blasted that all the time.
Nope its horrid. He wasnt a patch on Steady B
Man. It don't get no colder than this. I remember Cool C because my cousin was the first person I heard bang his music.
Salute to you for throwing a little shine on Lawrence Goodman through this piece on Cool-C. L.G. was a fundamental part of Philly hip-hop. He doesn't get enough PROPS for putting New York cats on in the early days of Rap. You should do 3 Times Dope next. T.y.!
A shame for the woman who lost her life
And the two sons she left behind.
Lauretha Vaird. August 4 1952 - January 2 1996
Grew up in Philly back then and remember how big him and Steady were on the local scene (even remember Steady B and Will Smith battling on the radio once). I'll never forget when I heard about the bank robbery/shooting. The story about the cop getting shot and killed hit the news but for a couple days it wasn't known who did it. Then I remember a couple days later at a job I was working at the time, one of my coworkers was like "Did you hear about Steady B and Cool C? They were the ones who shot that cop". I was absolutely floored. My cousin called me later that night and we couldn't believe it. Such a sad ending, both these dudes has great potential.
This was great! Going back to my childhood right here! Do one on 3X Dope, Sweet Tee (aka Suga) or BWP!
"On the Smooth Tip".
EST was the shit 🔥
Thanks for this video, it’s about time someone did one on Cool C. I used to love the Glamorous life video! You can tell Jay Z gotta a lot of his swag from him. It’s crazy cuz I’ve never heard any entertainer from Philly even acknowledge him!
@majorrussell6776 It's IRONIC that you made that Jay Z comparison because that's EXACTLY what Christopher's mother told me.🎯💯
@@ktoescos I remember thinking that the first time I saw Jay Z. That’s what’s up his mom felt the same way 💯! I hope Cool C staying strong 💪🏾
@@majorrussell6776 Thanks for the POSITIVE comment brother. Her favorite joint off his debut solo album is : th-cam.com/video/tnQiEIWxVic/w-d-xo.html When my lady and I talk to him on the phone he seems to be in good spirits. Which is always good to hear.👍🙏
@@ktoescos you’re welcome bro! I’m gonna listen to that song. It’s great to hear he’s in a good space! 👏🏾💯 Blessings to you, him, and his mom !
If they just would’ve waited they could of produced and cultivated the next wave of Philly artists. Always wanted Schooly, Will and Jeff, Tuff Crew and the Hilltop Hustlers to get along. Shit would’ve been crazy😢
Could of???
Could HAVE/Could've
Man most either have forgotten about him or didn't know about him... Grew up listening to Steady B back in the 80's... Steady B mos def should be next bro... Good stuff!
Crazy because if he would have put more energy into making another album and trying to get money with a normal job to support his career he wouldn't be on deathrow. Possible
danged skippy folks. Too bad, once again a bad decision invoked by the father of all lies prevails
i loved his song 'the glamorous life"......
3 times dope was my favorite that first album classic. Salute to Chuck Nice great producer
Another fun fact: Lawrence Goodman who worked with Cool C and others around that time is relation to Quran Goodman of Da youngstaz which Stuntedgrowth also covered in the Stunted growth episodes
He had bars he just knew how to keep it relatable, which is always smart marketing wise.
I remember the day when this news broke out. It was a sad day. So many opportunities and talent, yet making such stupid decisions.
This is really a sad situation...it happened...this is my half brother...same father different mother...I'm older...anyway what it is is what it...Respect is.....Respect
Cool C and Nas is My Top Two Favorite Mc's. I Gotta Habit is a Classic and Belongs along With All The Others That are Mentioned, Also The Song "Juice Crew Diss" is one of The Greatest Diss's Ever.
Thank you for this. Can you do his partner Steady B?
I still can't believe that Steady B & Cool C went out like this, they're still old school hip-hop legends tho.💯
I was in prison with him in 1997 at Camp Hill , seen him in the infirmary
Steady B was there too they gave steady the blues at camp hill
@THEREALGULLYTV I thought when he got sentenced in 1996 that he was sent to S.C.I. Greene in Waynesburg Pennsylvania which is near Pittsburgh. I also thought that Stead was sent to a separate facility which was S.C.I. Houtzdale ? By the way what's your take on what Chi Ali and Shyheim did ? I don't feel it's right that a police officer's life is more valuable than a civilians life. ALL LIFE IS PRECIOUS you FEEL ME ?
I could imagine
Yo I still listen to Cool C on the regular! He was decent lyrically for his era but man was he cold with the flow, too smooth with his delivery. Ironic how he kinda sounded like MC Shan but still dissed him lol also how the last video he recorded with CEB was in a court room. Thanks for this video.
Sad but he played a stupid game and won a stupid prize rip to the officer who lost her life.
She's a glamorous girl
And she came to rock my world
All the guys they wanna get with her
Step Back 'coz you know you can't get her , First of All you gotta have money in order for you to be a Honey
Cool C , I'm loving this content especially the way back old school stuff and I also plead again please do Jus Allah from Jedi Mind Tricks.
9:47 This picture says it all! Smh I always heard rumors about Steady B. I didn’t know that him and Cool C hit a lick together. Really sad. The bad choices and decisions that they made as boys, they have to pay for the rest of their lives as men. I know their mindset is different now. And I’m sure not a day goes by that they’re not penitent for their mistakes. Smh
the lick didn't even get hit smh
Look at the roster for DJ Kay Slay's 110 Deep. Lots of material for your channel. So many talented MCs, but so little exposure for a lot of them.
Glamorous Life was the Jam, I was in 7th grade . My BF and I loved this dude .
GOD bless you for this one. A classic.❤
I used to bump his 1st album all the time. I was only like 12 but my big bro had his tape.
I remember this guy wow that's crazy
Love the content 👍
Extremely interesting and informative.
I gotta habit album is definitely big big BIG part of hip hop I studied it last winter
He was a pioneer. Good lookin out on this one SGM.

Great video, can you do next Akinyele or Pudgee Tha Phat Bastard? Thanks
Ooooooo ooooo you got it ,dhe live the glamour life.that was the jam back in the day.he had so much potential, and threw it all away for prisom
A real klassik. I wanted to be like this nigga when he dropped. I would sit on the porch and watch drop tops ride by in Detroit and hear his song playing in my head back when I wasn't even old enough to drive, shit, I wasn't even in middle school yet! Much luv. I will always remember.
Ice t even said he didnt do gangsta rap until he heard cool c. Philly is a tough city to thrive in but still has alot of talent!
He’s were he need to be he chose the life and situation he’s in son.
Thank you

It happened in the 90's.
@@phobedavis7014 bro an infant😭😭😭
Ooh ooooh, Ya got it!!! The Glamorous Life. I'm from Chicago and been on Philly rap from the beginning. From Schooly D to Meek Mill and every dude in between. LG the Teacher had to be the godfather of the scene outside of Schooly if I'm not mistaken...
Impatience destroys
Fun fact: Cool C song "Enemy Territory" is on the soundtrack for the movie Enemy Territory
I remember Cool C, but never heard that song, or heard of that movie.
@kobiecamp1134 it's the movie with Ray Parker Jr tony Todd Jan Michael Vincent stacey dash kadeem hardison Deon richmond the movie was around 1986. It's a good movie it's give that judgment night vibe to it and the movie is on TH-cam
@@KSoloLoso I talk to Chris. How could his song "ENEMY TERRITORY" be on a movie from 1986 when his 1st single was "JUICE CREW DIS" from 1987 ? "Enemy Territory" came out in 1989 on his debut album "I Gotta Habit which hit the streets on AUGUST 8th, 1989.🤔
Cool C was doing his thang all the way out here in the bay 🔥
bout time!~
3x dope should be next in the list!
Man, I still bump I'm Serious by Steady B. SMH. You should do a video on ED OG and Da Bulldogs!
You gotta do Steady B next
Who is that
I like the music channel concept. I already like the basketball channel. Great idea.
How about Boxing.
Cool C still gets luv. hold ya head homie. Philly never forgets Uptown all day🫡
Send him some money on his books
Wow. Never heard of Cool c. Gonna look him up. Good story
He threw his life away him & Steady B, RIP to Lauretha Vaird, I was going on 4 at that time and that was when that major snowstorm hit or about to hit
Ohh that Death Row, the real one!
good onee....krazy how his story turned out smh
you gotta do brotha lynch man
Please do an Arrest Development
His first album was slept on !
Please do a "Sheck Wes" stunted video next. please & thankyouu
You should do the story on Big Lurtch. He has quite an interesting one.
Bro can you do a video on 3 Times Dope or Boss?
Man! I was rocking with I got a Habit album when it came out(juice crew dis, merrygo round etc)he was a minor competitor to LL....That bank robbery was NOT a good idea...damn I'm getting old😂😂😂😂😂😂
SAD for all parties involved.... The streets and media influenced youngsters to make bad decisions now its social media destroying todays youth.
JC, what stunned your growth as a musician?
None
What's the video at 0:20? I thought the only Cool C videos up on TH-cam were I gotta habit, Glamorous life, and Life in the ghetto...
@trapking8772 "IF YOU REALLY LOVE ME" : th-cam.com/video/dMkSJAIWS9Q/w-d-xo.html It's from his 2nd solo album titled "Life In The Ghetto" which was released on August 30, 1990.
3XD was really that work
Do camouflage from savannah ga
Is the glamorous life A response to "three times dope - funky dividends"?
Damn, bro still breathing? He been in death row for decades now.
He probably going to be on death row until the end of his life.
Sad outcome. This is a cautionary tale right here.
please do a "Sheck Wes" stunted video next please
Man I Use To Rock Cool C & Steady B!!!!!! They Had Some Jamz!!!!!
I don't think Cool C joined C.E.B. because he "Wanted It All Too Fast." Cool C and Steady B were like brothers, and because of his loyalty, he gave up his solo career to help out his friends by joining the group. The moral of the story is that "friends" could keep you at the bottom of the barrel with them.
Nice and Smooth would be dope
So that's what happened to him. Dang he was a Star ✨ back in the day
why havent you explored NATURAL ELEMENTS (or NIGHT BREED where KA started) ?
Who is that
Can you do the bush babies
Other than MIMS, Vanilla Ice, and most of Dipset (maybe except for Cam), Cool C is probably the prototype of an artist with untapped potential already with some hits on the charts who stunted his own growth by committing career s#+@!de and ending up on death row!!! DAMN hate he had to go out like THAT 😳😯😐
What happened to MIMS.
@@kobiecamp1134 He stunted his growth also being a typical one hit wonder in the ringtone era
@@SiReTV8929 Oh, I thought you were saying he had, or got some legal issues.
