Primbee Speed Windsurfing

- After the last video of the sunset sail at Primbee I came back a few days later on a much stronger forecast on the Saturday. The wind was 10 - 35 knots and the drone was struggling with the gusts. I only had 4 batteries and didn't get as much footage as I wanted because there were many lulls in the wind (with drone hovering wasting battery) but was happy with some of the shots.
Tony Wills copped a hit with the drone to his new race sail that made a small cut to the top of the sail. He was my first victim after quite a few videos! That must make you feel special Tony ha ha. Thanks for being so cool about it.... at least you have been immortalised in the video now. :)
I also lost connection to the drone for 1-2 minutes.... totally lost it... but it returned home by itself....was so cool to see... I was worried I lost all the footage.
Anyway hope you enjoy what I got on the day!

Beautiful. Windsurfing...my first love, and these dudes are kicking it eh? Sold my 9 sails, 2 booms, 3 masts and a board around 2007...been kiting ever since but u never forget ur fisrt love...Windsurfing changed my entire life...and so grateful!!!
one of the best windsurf video on youtube... Can't stop watching it!
Nice video. And realistic. Not those extreme locations with mast-high waves. Just blasting on flat water. A discipline what a lot of windsurfers appreciate.
I can't stop watching this. Seen it 100 times the past 10 months. The ambiance... aaah.
Tomas, 700 minutes!!! You could have flown over and joined us instead. Pack your bags!!
There's plenty of room out there mate!
Outstanding camera-work of this powerfull speedsurfing session. Sensational !
Back in the 80s our local club sponsored speed trials for a number of years, I was never able to attend due to work commitments but fully appreciated the efforts of the organization. World class athletes competing in small town Lethbridge and coming from all over the world!! Sadly the impetus of the sport moved to more spectacular locales with exotic names and support of sponsors that could capitalize on a larger market. Thanks for all the old crew that worked so hard purely for the sport. Sadly several of them are now gone but I think of them regularly as pioneers and true aficionados who spent their own money and time to further the sport.
Awesome story Rick there's many unsung heroes out there!!
To me..Best film on youtube about windsurfing .No irritating music. The music goes with the surfing experience. This best reflects the feeling as
you skim over the water.
Thanks Tom!!
Hi Paul, I was not interested in Slalom,
but when I saw this video I wanted to get on the slalom board.
Because , Image, music, composition, all sense is good !!
And I feel your love for wind surfing.
Thank you for always feel so good video.
SAMURAISURFIN awesome thanks mate.... funnily enough when I filmed that day I also wanted to get a slalom board ha ha
can't stop watching this video... amazing drone footage with the perfect music. This will bring me over the winter season without depression😂
Niko Gartner 😃👍
Wow this brought back so many memories from the 80's windsurfing in a lot of wind at Dallas area lakes. Glad to see people still doing it. So much fun without any motor. I was in the 1980 Windsurfer nationals on lake Michigan, came in 5th in heavyweights. I saw equipment evolved a lot but, see the it has been refined and really not much different than what we used back then. People stick with what works!
Brad Sloan 👏
Foil boards are big step up , I wonder if they hold foil races , Lake Michigan?
@@denisevedpremsize432 Foil boards are good in light to moderate winds, not for heavy winds. If foil board were the quickest they would be beating everyone at speed trials. That is not the case, windsurfers in heavy winds are even faster than kite boards too. There is video proof of that.
Bradley Sloan Wasn’t to sure about Michigan winds , thank you 😊 I am enjoying it 👍🏻Wasn’t sure if I was missing out w/ Those foils
No drones and much much better Gear.. But a lot of fun i hear.. 😁
One of Best windsurfing movie around world... Brawo
Also great to see different levels of Windsurfers and equipment -really got great in the 90's :)
My feed proposes it every now and then, and each time it's still as good.
🙌

Outstanding!! thanks Paul for sharing this, wish I had stayed in Oz when I was right into the windsurfing, Primbee looks like a perfect spot for a wee bit of speed.
Thanks mate!
Man, this makes me want to go on the water... Very nice footage and kudos to the guy with the vintage NP RAF Garda!!! (at 4'38")
Beautiful video. So nice to see everybody going so fast with a new (drone) perspective. Love that flat water, I thought the Outer Banks NC was flat but I think you have us beat. I tried filming a few people with my drone but I was afraid to get as close as you do; it takes a lot of concentration to get close like that!
PAinVA cheers mate.... glad you liked it.... yeah I think that’s what I like about the drone filming, is the concentration aspect... good point!
Paul, best video i've seen capturing the fun of blasting on flatwater... Greets from Aruba

Nice, I wish I had speed windsurfing locations in my area, I always have rough chop
Simply awesome.
Thanks Peter
Really nice video Paul. There are certain sceneries here that really look like Applecross in Perth where I used to Windsurf. I will get back into it when I return to Australia.
Tintin nice mate!!

QuintDaSharkHunter thanks!
Awesome video.
Fantastic place to windsurf ..makes me well gell !!
Thanks Steve!
Amazing video !! goooooddd job
Hahaha just found this clip yeah I'm a Wollongong boy too & I know the yacht club on the lake but never realised we have world class conditions right here in the " gong "!!👍
Yeah mate it’s an awesome spot
That place has nice flat water. The only place that has nice flat water I windsurfed was inside the kelp by the point Fermin. The kelp knocked down the wind chop and you’d get small ripples on the swells. Smooth as silk and you can look like a hero jibing.
Maybe someday before I croak I can get out there and blast around on a Slalom board with the gap closed by a race sail.
Just use a Bic, no need for the crazy stuff, thats only for those that are super good
excellent sailing skills and video!
Jack Hau thanks mate!
super nice filming and shots!! servus from Germany

Wanna get on my Board, now!

👏
Hi Paul, really nice work! I would just ask/beg for a showing also how riders are finalizing theyr maneuvres - jibing and then coninuing on a new course/hals.
Ribal they couldn’t gybe it was too shallow!
Amazing!
Thanks!!
Bellissimo video.👍👍👍
Gracias!

Wow... u make it look so easy.

Amazing.

I love wind.....i love windsurf
Very good manoeuvreing, how did you control camera at the same time as yaw, left, right, front, back,up,down have mavic 2 drone myself but cannot imagine so good shoots
Yeah it took a while but eventually something clicks and you don't think about what to do and you just use muscle memory. Keep at it!
Brill video - looks an amazing spot.
It's a fun spot!
Paul van Bellen where?
Primbee!
can't find it on google.... please, which country?
Straya
Hi Paul, impressive video, well done! Would you mind sharing what kind of equipment you used, both for video and for windsurfing?
Glad you liked it! I used a DJI P4.
Thanks for sharing! BTW, I would think it caught some dirty wind at 05:51, that's all... Turbulence by warp speed, haha!
Paul van Bellen do you know how much wind a DJI mavic pro can handle?
Jimmy Fock I think up to around 25 knots
Epic Vid, music is so rad
Cheers Mitch...one of my fav tracks!
great video
Thanks Tim!
El video espectacular
Brilliant camera work
Thanks Rick!
wow great video
chris vasey 👍
Brill video.I love windsurfin and flying.Did the P4 get drowned when it hit the sail.was there any damage to the sail?
Hey thanks Jake! The P4 amazingly survived the impact..... the sail got a 10-15cm cut in the panel unfortunately. If you like flying and windsurfing you might like the latest vid I made - th-cam.com/video/zXogE7ABGi8/w-d-xo.html
Nice video.
@5:51 ... finally I see someone else having the same problem. I think there is a problem with the camera on the P4 not clearing the gimbal. It only happens if the right side of the aircraft is pointing in a 45 degree angle into the wind and is flying at an extreme angle. I can recreate the problem on land and have thought about simply cutting a small part of the camera housing to prevent this from happening.
Let me know if that works Thomas.
Might be selling it... If not I'll give it a go.
could be just the wind.... I've flown in 30 knots winds with strong gusts, and... I think the gimbal just can't handle the forces of the wind... motors just 'cut out' for a sec....
most gimbals do, to much force on the motors, they cut out to protect 'burning' them... Flying at 60 km/h with 20+ knots winds, puts a lot of stress on the gimbal
definitely not the wind. I can almost without fail replicate the problem. It's to the point where I can't fly certainly paths around a kiteboarder or windsurfer because I know the gimbal will lockup.
It's not that the gimbal travels to the end of it's movement it simply gets stuck on the corner because the camera housing doesn't clear the gimbal. It's literally only a couple of millimetres of clearance that are missing.
I have seen other people talk about mysterious gimbal lockups but since most people don't fly in strong winds it doesn't seem to be encountered by many people.
I get regular gimbal overloads when I fly in winds with gusts over 45knts. The aircraft is flying at a pretty extreme angles at that wind speed so wouldn't expect the gimbal to work flawlessly at that speed.
These drone footage projects you do are just soooo entertaining to watch. Inspired me to get back into the sport after 16 years. Pretty much like riding a bike!
It's a little intense getting used to the speed again, though...blasting in chop is some scary sh*t.
Are you going to keep making vids?
Charlie Cushing awesome mate! Yeah I’ll keep making vids when I get the chance.
@@windsurfer Your editing technique is really impressive. I like how you synchronize the cuts with the phrasing of the music. Do you have a background in video editing?
@@CharlieCushing no it’s just a hobby 👍
Wow, superb speed! Would like to see those turns, too! A pity that the editor got the cut out
That was the plan but there no good lay down gybes!
