I love how this drone shot video shows finally how much marketing potential windsurf has when it comes to slalom racing. I would watch anytime! Especially if it had all the extra video indications that the America’s cup has (i.e start line, arrival line, racer’s speed and so on). Great work!

I was cameraman on the PBA tour in the early 1990's and got some great aerial footage by hanging a small Hi8 video camera on the tail of a dual cord stunt kite...but this drone footage is stunning, Oscar winning footage...so good to see 25 years on from my early days of filming...envious ? yes...the Go Pro inventors deserve world recognition in all sports. RK.

Yeah, kudos to the team. I don't know how you guys got involved/contracted to do this, but I remember feeling very sad when the team had to leave before the end of the event (to go do movie shoots for a Star Wars production, wasn't it?). Sure hope you're back for next year, and please, clear you calendar next time!

I remember this race, it was epic! Do you think Antoine pinched him by angling upwind to try for an interference call or did they just naturally kind of merge into each other's lane and Matteo just ran into some rough chop right at the same time? It's kind of hard to see since we're not directly overhead but it just seems like they got super close all of a sudden so I've always been curious what really happened here.
They were on different size boards. Iachino went for speed, and chose his highwind board. Albeau stayed with his medium wind one. This led to somewhat superior speed in the reaches for Iachino, but superior power in Albeau's hands. The masterpiece jibe of Iachino around the last outside mark was also a real mistake, as he placed himself upwind of Albeau, so that he found his path for a faster downwind run closed by Albeau's ability to push more and go higher. This is what I understood (the board choice is real, Iachino in an interview said he wanted to "gun down" AA using his fastest kit). Anyhow: epic.

Remember winning my first race at 18 was so happy but I never win again for a year lol. To win this must have been amazing they were right on the edge And taking big risks in the turns in that swell lucky it was with them on the final turn.
Yes! It's a phenomenal race. All the better for the amazing footage. NOW- get some on screen adverts going- even just a t icker tape at the bottom. Fosters, baccardi would be silly to miss the opportunity. Sports sponsorship is huge

I genuinely GASPED when he fell omg that was intense
It was exciting to watch. Love the speed. But I gotta' say, It looked like the sailor in front pulled up into the wind a bit and the reaction of the following sailor caused his fall. Hard to see if it was but that's what it looked like to me.
I watched in slow -mo and it appeared that when he hit a slight bump his weight momentarily was transferred slightly too far forward causing the front to drop and bite into the water. They did appear to be converging but the slight loss of control after hitting the bump would appear to be the main culprit.

Is it possible that because of the close distance the wind flow was increased and due to the bernoulli effect the one sail pulled the other one?

Best slalom race...... robby naish back in the late 1980’s hood river. He carshed in the beginning...was pretty much out. Yet he clawed his way back to win.
