Some echo absorbing material in the concrete shelter would be a huge factor for increased comfort. Even a couple dozen square feet of coated rockwool would dampen that echoing down by so much.

It would also decrease once the bunker is in the ground. Covering it with dirt would have a large effect.
You won't need anything like that. Once it has a few boxes of food, made beds, water tank, toilet, all that will absorb the sound and break it up so it's not bouncing off the walls. Just like an empty house, that will echo too, until you fill it with furniture.
I like the size of this bunkers because of the small footprint, meaning a customer could dig a deeper hole and really make this little bunker withstand anything.

Ron, can you do a video with a "floor model" that has the NBC air system installed? Obviously, you would need more holes in the side walls for the air pipes. It is hard to picture what that would look like. Also, maybe consider offering a modest "lighting kit" upgrade option that customers can purchase and install themselves.
What would transportation cost to deliver about 800 miles? Would we be able to drive over it? The place we have for one it where we access our back yard. Thanks Ron. I think these are a great option.

I’m ignorant about these but we just bought a number of acres between Luling and Seguin and are considering a shelter. We have not started yet but, my questions are:
How is delivery handled?
Is there a way to protect the electronics in there? Could I make it a Faraday cage? (I’m not sure what that entails)
What do I need to do to plan for the location? Are there engineers or such who can determine where it won’t work and where it should?

There isn't room for that, you would need to plan that in advance if you want it to work as Faraday cage.
I mean you could build a cage in it, drill a hole and ground it, but it would be better to just have it built into the pour.
not really going need much of a faraday if its deep enough

um No to the septic tank. septic tanks are designed to have water in them that prevents them from caving in.

Filling the tank with water during the installation process is an important step. Leaving a septic tank completely empty and waiting for it to fill over time with normal use is not recommended, as it could result in the tank shifting or settling and potentially causing damage or leaks or collapse. If a septic tank is left completely empty and there is no water in it to provide counter pressure, it can be at risk of collapsing or shifting due to the weight of the soil and other materials surrounding it. This is why it is not recommended to leave a septic tank completely empty and wait for it to fill up over time with normal use. it is generally recommended to fill the tank with water once it is in place and the plumbing is properly connected.

I know in Maine building code requires everything underground be 9 feet deep including foundation & septic & Leach field & root cellars & fall out shelters
Love this bunker. Actually wanted it over the one I’m going to have to go with. The price is right, the shipping quote from Ron is reasonable; however, having to become my own contractor to get it installed is not. Have to excavate and have to get a licensed crane lined up. All can be done; however, if your thinking this 18000lb. shelter was going to be the drop-in solution in most already complete developments, it won’t. I luckily have access to my back yard through my willing neighbor’s horse pasture but the distance for the lift is still too long for most cranes and would get stuck according to that professional and there’s no way the driveway or neighborhood allows for what’s needed to come through the front either. This is still a solution you’d better bake into a new build before anything else because it’s not gonna happen easily or at all in most finished locations, unfortunately. Otherwise, Ron was available and willing to answer questions. Really wish this one could have worked out for my needs, but I’m unfortunately only going to be prepared for tornadoes, which was not my full checklist.

Thanks! Exterior damp proofing/waterproofing? Is that up to the buyer? Type of concrete reinforcement used during the pour? Also, I believe I read where a local excavator familiar with septic system installs can do the work? Correct?

They could, but find you a construction crew that builds roads and excavates earth, and lays pipe and such, they could do it too.

If you wish to add anything to the exterior surface, that would have to be done prior to installation. Also, completely sealing the concrete so that it cannot breathe can actually trap vapors in, not out. This is due to condensation by temperature differences inside the structure to the outside of the structure. Without proper and constant ventilation, you could be doing more damage than good. This would require approval from Atlas to maintain any warranty, I would imagine.

Would precast utility vaults be a good substitute due to local availability?
I don’t mean to take business away from Ron but cross border freight for custom precast concrete would be prohibitively arduous.
I’d still need all the items you’ve shown stocked in yours plus a light that mimics daylight. Yours looks really nice and cozy with natural light coming in the hatch.
Sounds like it won’t be more than $23k after delivery anywhere in the lower 48. $28k now, being that this was months ago, and I’m sure they’re no longer doing a discount for pre orders. Installation probable won’t be cheap. I dunno. I think it’s too small for my liking. If it were 1.5 times the size, I think I could do that. This seemed cramped without the compost toilet and the nbc air filtration system.
As old as I am, I would have trouble getting up and down the ladder for younger people. I’m sure it’s fine.
Our safe cellar has stairs.
You can get a winch from Home Depot and make yourself an elevator. But you’d need the bunker under a building so you’d have a place to mount the winch.
But you’d have to throw the hook out and step up to close the hatch.

What kind of protection will it provide from radiation?
And how thick is the roof?
The concrete wall is 4" thick, and the walls curve together at the top, so I'd assume 4" thick. If this is buried below your house and it has an NBC air intake the way he does on most bunkers you should expect to be safe from fallout, at least if the hatch is shut. Remember though this is a very short term shelter, it isn't designed for you to spend months and months inside it, so if you are in an area with severe fallout (let's say you live in Norfolk Virginia for example, as that area will definitely be hit by nukes, possible multiple nukes, in the event of a total nuclear war), you will eventually run out of water in the shelter and either die of dehydration inside or die from radiation poisoning when you leave.

This is meant to be underground, wind speed on the surface is irrelevant.

If you can get it in the ground and the entrance water proofed it’s ok.

If you put this 20 feet down, you would have to excavate 20 feet down.

I was thinking the same thing. Having a staircase on a pully system that can be raised up flush to the ceiling when everyone is inside, and let back down when needed to move people in and out. That would be a NICE "UPGRADE" to a ladder, and safer too for older and very young people.

Is this Bunker Chemical & Biological Weapons Proof
Design something that can last weeks and weeks because of the hard target areas. This thing wouldn't help in those areas.
Yeah 5 people would last long in that thing. It needs to be 3 times that length with 2 hatches.
Then you bury a plastic water tank right next to it and tie in a water tap to the shelter, then you got say 500 to even 1000 gallons of water. Now you could hold up in there a long time.
But as is I see this as a 2 person bunker for maybe a month at best.
using a Water tight hatch, and Filling the entrance tube with stored water would be a great way to better attenuate gamma radiation. on the cheap.
Maybe cheaper then an long 'L' shaped entrance. and far easier as an after market upgrade.
extra tid bit for others:
(there is a phenomenon where if a thin door shields too much that it can increase the rad inside, where a less shielded door will allow it to exit and not reflect back inward. )
Fill the entrance tube with water? Doesn't that defeat the purpose? Don't you mean fill the entrance walls? Also, the door thickness helps deter radiation, but I would imagine it's more about security. Regardless of the radiation, a thin sheet metal hatch will do you no good against Intruders or other outside threats.
In addition, if the entrance tube is subpar because it's not filled with water, then I would think that would negate your observation that the entrance hatch can trap radiation. What might be worse, is an entrance tube that has walls filled with water, and either one of the hatches. That thick hatch will surely trap the radiation since it cannot escape through the walls, and the thin hatch will provide zero security.

I hope your bunkers can keep people alive for when the poles shift. I think you should build a big bunker for thousands of people animals and plants to live inside together. We need bunkers that you can put animals and plants inside because people wont live long inside if the air gets bad. I wish someone like you would build a big bunker for us all to live in but build more then one big one so the human race has a better chance of surviving inside multiple bunkers.

A quality swiss nbc filter system is quite pricey and its included.

The AVERAGE house price in America in Q1 2023 is $436,800.
It's comical to think the average person can't finance this via a credit card or small loan like they do a car or house which is 2.5x-23x more.
