Well said. Karpov is a positional genius. He sustained pressure on the isolated pawn long enough to cause Kamsky to misplace his pieces on the King side. Patient, sustained, accurate positional play. Really brilliant.
I think it says lovely things about your videos and the chess community as a whole that your video like/dislike ratio is so very high, you have my humble respect and i hope you keep up the good work man, love the content and the analysis.
Thank you Vandula. VANDULA said: great job mato. i like the call to action question at the end bc YES we enjoyed and YES everyone should subscribe. free daily chess lessons is a great morning treat (for those in the u.s).
Don't listen to him Mato. Take all the time you need. I like your explanations it helps me to see some strategies that I can use in my own games, and with any luck I might win a chess set from my school because of your videos!

your method is just fine. the discussion of variations and your analysis/comments is the reason i watch. if i wanted to just see the moves played, i would load it up in an engine and go through them.
I saw this earlier and found the move, but dismissed it as a Bishop grab. Thanks for making the games even more enlightening. Players learn about their proclivities and hesitancy.
Textbook chess game people: learning that to take is a mistake. To SETUP your pieces. To defend against different tactics. And to look at various situations as a result of moving your pieces late in the game. Thanks again Mato!
This match showed very interesting games of the Panov-Botvinnik attack and that black should be prepared always for this.Kamsky won a great game also with the white pieces in the lines of the Panov-Botvinnik attack.
mato please please ignore this comment. this guy has no idea what he's talking about. anyone that enjoys your channel would NEVER say make them shorter! the longer the better. we appreciate seeing variations and even better the humor you provide making your a great chess personality. what terrible criticism. roman dzindzichashvili's hass videos that are over 30min long and he's one of the most instructional teachers alive. keep up the good work mato.
late to reply but..... If a3 is played black can play Bxc3 and after black plays bxc3 white plays Nxc3 winning a pawn. Plus black will have an isolated D pawn which will become a liability as the game goes on.
At 11:13, why not have the w queen take the pawn on g6, b king to h8, queen to h6, pawn to g3 to protect knight, opens up alot of possibilities for white.
great video as always mato, however i would like to raise your attention that your videos' duration is getting much longer than before. Don't fall in the mistake of other chess commentators on youtube, cheers.
Awesome , brilliant , even though Karpov played the second best move! :D Very liked , since i myself mostly draw against d4 openings by playing kings indian :D learned something from this one , from now one beware me! :D Thank you mato for sharing such brilliant games! Здоровья Вам
At 10:23, it is White's move. At 10:13, when it is Black's move, after Bb5, White could respond with Rc7, attacking the Queen. If Black's Queen moves, with a Rook pinning the f7 pawn to the King, White may be able to get an attack on the Black King with moves such as Nf4 or Nf5, h5, etc. After Rc7, Black can play f4 and still be winning after Qxf4 Rxd7, but it is a worse position than if Black played Qd5 or Qe6.
Pedropact it could have been ...continuing with Knight to g4 check....but after white Queen comes on the h file ..black Knight to f3 would prevent the immediate check mate ....nd maybe black being a piece up could have won in the long run ...
Hi Mato. Thanks for the videos. In this video, why didnt Kamsky capture the black bishop with the knight at 723? Is this a mistake? it gets rid of the attacker and the bishop pair. thanks, Gus
cool, as always! And sure enough, I have been "light" on my Caro-Kann study. (Hardly see it) but this is a great way to learn of some of the intricacies. Thank You for enlightening an old pair of eyes. d=^))

All iPad users can access TH-cam via safari ~ its only the app that doesn't work! Thanks, Mato for another terrific analysis!
Mato, odlične video analize, zanimljivo i nenametljivo, svaka čast! Živio.
I like your voice, it makes this game very dramatic :)
Thank you for posting this game.
Masterly positional play by Karpov...second favorite player of mine next to the great Capablanca!
I really enjoyed this game. And I learned a lot also. As usual. Thanks, Mato! Best wishes for a great 2013 for you. Elmer.
I love longer videos! Please fall into trap of making them this long. Cheers.
Wow, what a thriller! Both players fighting until the end. Thank you so much!!

I really enjoy watching your videos, Mato. Please, keep going, you are doing it awesome!
Awe inspiring command of the strategy plus tactical apsects of the game by Karpov, one of my all time favorites.
Thank you for your comment

dumb question..but @1:43 why not bring white pawn to A3 attacking bishop?
late to reply but..... If a3 is played black can play Bxc3 and after black plays bxc3 white plays Nxc3 winning a pawn. Plus black will have an isolated D pawn which will become a liability as the game goes on.
Longer videos are ok. It helps explain why a move was played and why the alternatives are worse.
I like every single game of yous, thanks
I like your chess videos Mr Mato..
At 11:13, why not have the w queen take the pawn on g6, b king to h8, queen to h6, pawn to g3 to protect knight, opens up alot of possibilities for white.
If I don't explain some variation then I get lots of questions "what if..."
Mato, at 1:53 isn't it an opoortunity to play the greek gift?
bishop on e7 prevents
great video as always mato, however i would like to raise your attention that your videos' duration is getting much longer than before. Don't fall in the mistake of other chess commentators on youtube, cheers.
gracias mato eres el mejor !!

At the critical position at 9:20 is rook to g4 considerable? After queen to h3, bishop takes on g2 and queen has nowhere to go
Dragos Lid I thought about your idea, yet I think Rook g4 is a bad option. Rg4, attacking the queen. Ne5, threathening to take the queen.
+Dragos Lid you would give up a queen + rook only for a queen + knight, but yeah i thought about that too ;)
At 10:23, it is White's move.

Mato, you are MUCH better chess commentator than Kevin and Jerry (Also popular youtube chess bloggers)!
At 1:53 woudn't a bishop sacrifice be a good option for white?
Pedropact it could have been ...continuing with Knight to g4 check....but after white Queen comes on the h file ..black Knight to f3 would prevent the immediate check mate ....nd maybe black being a piece up could have won in the long run ...
Excellent game as always and zero dislikes!
I like the duration, an average of 12 minutes is perfect.
@10:23 why not black bishop B5? doesn't it skewer rook and knight? winning at least knight and rook cant defend because of b pawn?
Time slot 3.10.Why not Rb1 immediately after Q×b2 ? Here also queen is trapped .
Yup, I wondered the same, but black has nxd5!
Hi Mato. Thanks for the videos. In this video, why didnt Kamsky capture the black bishop with the knight at 723? Is this a mistake? it gets rid of the attacker and the bishop pair. thanks,
Gus
At 9:23 ...what about Rg4 ? The queen is gone for ( at the worst scenario for white ) bishop and rook.
cool, as always! And sure enough, I have been "light" on my Caro-Kann study. (Hardly see it) but this is a great way to learn of some of the intricacies.
Thank You for enlightening an old pair of eyes.

Qa6 was a stunning move. One I would never make. It does take some explanation before you discover the logic behind it. Thanks
I like Karpov, most other best players have fancy sacrifices, but Karpov just wins by playing smart, stable, positional play.
Nice one, Mato.
At 9:15 black rock to B4 seems as a good move.
Was this a blitz game? White's last move seems like a huge blunder for a gm
Karpov played sex-cessfully :)
At 1.13 white can play Qh5+ winning the bishop or am i wrong?
now i see Nf3 is preventing
why all your videos marked as watched? coz this is mato ;-)
mato please more Karpov games
IMO, ~10 minutes is a good length.
hi Mato ! I have a game between mikhail tal and bukhuti gurgenidze i want see your video about this game and if you haven't mooves. i can give you game's mooves. I think it was a very good game :)
why cant i watch your videos with my ipad...?
I think Kamsky also played a very good chess..I didn't see any major blunders or anything of that sort and he was playing against Karpov!!
thanks..
Awesome!
Karpov was still one of the best in 1996.
At 11:00 black can play queen a6, winning the rook or knight.
Mihály Snajder For sure....
very clever mato!
this basically transposes into QGQ
I think the last move of kamsky was klumsy
❤🙏👍
After black castle white can play Bxa2+ after KxB Nb5+ Kb1 Qa5 Nf3 Ne5 and white win
God damn. I feel like I just watched a Christopher Nolan movie.
R to B4 checking Q
Cant see with my ipad your losing a customer here :(
Kamsky is a fool by helping Karpov opening up the game.
The problem lies with the iPad then ;).
of course I didn't find Qd5 jaja
I FOUND THE MOVE !
I feel the same way..looking @comments to a vid I cant watch..even a gentleman is all about his money@jaydee514
first !! go on mato !
Corona kan't defence 😜
I found rook to g4 ...
ah yes...somethimes the obvious moves are hardest to see
When chess was for human
Hard game
