I still don't know how to use this word properly... i feel like people use this word so much for everything that they've ruined the actual use of the word.
I think I have a simple example suppose you’ve made medieval art the font would be something more medieval like papyrus font (I think it looks medival enough idk) that would complement the medival feeling of the art so in other words if your trying to make something have a type of feeling use things that would complement that thing
I definitely understand what you mean. I personally use it as a way that means “to convey an overall message, style or meaning”. I use it as a way to pinpoint something’s overall visual translation to me.
The thing about the word aesthetic is that you never know if someone actually knows what it means or if they just wanna sound artsy Example: thAts So AEstHeTiC.
in my opinion aesthetics is a emotion about appreciating the art or the beauty like the Greek statue you can feel something that you can't explain When you look at the poses of some statue thats the aesthetics i mean not that pose but a emotion or feeling i mean how you feel when you see those pose example michael angelo' david statue there are some people i know my english is bad but i know there are some people here who could understand me aesthetics is different to many people why because we have a different perspective also
Agree, it starts with emotions. If one want to experience art, one has to have the ability to experience; let it into yourself and feel. Not everybody reach that, unfortunately....
When I was a small kid I imagined so many things in my mind. But I could not describe it. They were so pale images. Very beautiful flower gardens, beautiful windows with pale afternoon sunlight etc. After so many years I found that was aesthetic. Aesthetic is a feeling than an art.
I already have given up telling people that they misused the word 'aesthetic'. They don't listen, they don't try to understand, and worst of all they believe that I am the one who's wrong.
Aesthetics to me is the philosophical examination of concepts related to the evaluation and content of sense-experience. Philosophy of art is distinct, and draws from aesthetics, in the same way that literary theory may draw from linguistics, philosophy of language, etc.
for me, aesthetic is when i see something not only so beautiful but so amazing that it makes me feel a way that I would've never thought before could be felt. its like a different persective of everything, for example cottagecore aesthetic is a way i would've never thought of and old cottage with overgrown vines. its like... never mind it way to hard for me to completetly explain with wordswhat i think
They certainly both fall under value theory, and one might claim that beauty is good, but it seems tough to make the opposite claim that all things that are good are beautiful.
Agreed I think we mention a question on meaning around 2:55, but there are many questions in aesthetics, so this should not be taken as an exhaustive list.
I'm still kind of confused but what I understood is that aesthetic is what you think of something like the beauty of something and the Art of something right or is there a lot more to that
I think that aesthetical judgements are commonly and wrongly mixed with ethical judgements. Ethical judgements deal with justice and what is right and wrong. Aesthetical judgements deal with cost/benefit, subjective preferences, etc. It can be personal or interpersonal. I would even say some virtues are aesthetical. I think ethics and aesthetics can be joined together using Value Theory, under Universally Preferable Behaviour. Perhaps we call this realm morality. Or perhaps we call this realm ethics and say aesthetics and morality is a part of ethics. But as we have it now where aesthetics is seperated from ethics and morality, that is a bad thing.
Some might equally say that ethical judgements are subjective. Also I am confused by your claims, You say that aesthetics and ethics are wrongly mixed, but you also say that aesthetics being separated from ethics is a bad thing.
@@CarneadesOfCyrene > You say that aesthetics and ethics are wrongly mixed, but you also say that aesthetics being separated from ethics is a bad thing It could be that what he meant was that the reason why people mix them is wrong, but there's a right reason for mixing them, and that right reason is "Value Theory, under Universally Preferable Behaviour."
I think aesthetics is the dimension of pleasantness in anything humans perceive. Like color, it lives in a spectrum. It arises from mental activity and is subject to individual perception. While there are outliers, it is possible to get stabdard deviations, averages, etc of where in the spectrum perceptions reside.
I believe anything that moves you or you’re in awe of is consider “Art” because I also believe that art is a bridge between man and the divine. Hmm, depends on what you are looking for. For the classic, primary source on aesthetics, Aristotle's Poetics is a good start, and it is quite short (here's my series on that if curious th-cam.com/play/PLz0n_SjOttTcXOPGhebjHGOgcz047BYO8.html). If you are looking for more of an anthology I might try Blocker & Jeffers's Contextualizing Aesthetics which has a good mix of primary and secondary sources. For tertiary sources, I like Eran Guter's Aesthetics A-Z or for something more specific to contemporary aesthetics Taylor & Winquist's Encyclopedia of Postmodernism (here's my series on Postmodernism if you are interested th-cam.com/play/PLz0n_SjOttTcLQyeXoDeqR0LGO3JCoLbO.html)
It is interesting. One could pose the question: is Gobbelian propaganda if properly packaged to arouse the senses in a certain manner, beautiful? or does it just lured you, camouflaged itself, with certain features to avoid detection so that it could be received as beautiful? So, the degree of identification would be not only intimate, but so that its call to intimacy would be received as something agreeable, and always welcomed?
i could see how someone could eventually become conditioned into associating gobbelian propaganda (not entirely sure what that is but i'm assuming it's unpleasant) with something positive, with the manner in which it's presented to them eliciting typically positive responses. and aesthetics can act as that sort of bridge or catalyst in changing their opinions towards a particular topic without them even realizing it i think but there's probably going to be a difference between momentarily appreciating the presentation of the content and orientating towards the actual content itself tho, enough for people not to be guiled by those kinds of tactics

There is only an objective answer when you come up with criteria (subjectively) and then see objectively, how the proposed art measures up to the criteria.
Thank you for this informative video! I was struggling how to explain this. I believe there are unfortunately beauty standards built into our society and our minds that aren’t always universal. I think each person experiences beauty / value in different ways but majority of people unconsciously or consciously go along and accept these outside influences as their own thoughts. Lastly, it is important for people to develop themselves in this area by challenging the norms and experiencing other cultures and other types of beauty. Only then will their value of beauty be true and unbiased.

No problem. I will probably not do many videos on Aesthetics right now, simply because there is so much on my plate, and topics like aesthetics and ethics require a basis and foundation in such things as metaphysics and logic to really be fully understood. I will get there, but there is just so much of philosophy that I have to cover first.

Aesthetics is an area of study, not a position, so defining it is about discussing the questions that it asks. Biology is not a set of claims, but a set of things that we ask questions about.
That is an odd thing to say. Aesthetics is merely the study of what makes something beautiful. Religions have their own aesthetics and opinions about what makes something beautiful.
The information is interesting and helpful but the way is presenten is too heavy on the eyes. Your typewriter font is OK for titles, but maybe try to use san-serif for longer text. Also you can divide the long text into smaller paragraphs. Also, the image of the mona lisa of words is too much text everywhere, you can either make it way smaller or leave that space open for the other text to breath. This are just suggestions because I like the info, and I want you to step up your game. Keep it going!
Ironically for a video on aesthetics, your voice and manner of 'speaking' is so horrible and irritating that I cannot listen to this video ( or probably, any of your videos). Have you thought about speaking normally?
It is a video on aesthetics, and I would argue that speech patterns are a manner of taste. Some people like certain speech patterns, some like others.
