I wrote ,myself a letter the day I got accepted into nursing school. I then hide the letter and forgot about it until the day I graduated. It was really emotional digging the letter back out, reading it in front of my wife that went through this arduous journey with me called nursing school. What I felt when the letter was written and how I felt now. I highly recommend everyone doing the same.

Nurses deserve so much respect they do so much and ask for very little in return

I decided to become a nurse ven i was in a secondary schl but i knew that this gonna be very very and pretty hard but i love it..... I love nursing...... For me the main element of a nurse is patience coz ur shift doesn't ga smooth every day nd u shouldn't even expect that the only thing u can do is..take a deep breath nd keep running again give ur best to ur client . Be honest to ur self it's more than enough . Nd I'm stepping in to my profession nd I'm proud of myself

At the end of the first semester, I was flunked out of nursing school. Reason: professionalism. What?! I had never heard of that! For 9 years I was an Air Force medic. My Associates degree gpa was 3.2. My nursing gpa was 2.8. Anyway, I earned a BS and then an MBA. MBA orientation week was totally different! Fortune 500 companies sent their alumni to encourage & to motivate us. Receptions were hosted at several first class hotels. Imagine the difference! At the Sheraton with jazz, shrimp and white wine. Yes, please! 180 degrees different from “look left, look right…” Next night, the Four Seasons, easy listening music and sushi. Thanks for flunking me out! No to lochia flow, yes to cash flow!..Are you still placing lights between women’s legs..?

WOW! I'm so glad I found you. Thank you, this video hit me hard! made me cry even. I absolutely feel like I have imposter syndrome like you described. I didn't know it had a name but it describes me exactly. I'm an "older" student so my biggest fear is that I am to old to learn. At the same time I am very dedicated to studying and learning and becoming a geriatric nurse.

I am a AAS RN for the past 30 years. Not sure why I got an email with this video. But I agree with the speaker. You could get a degree or not. You can be anything you really want to be. Nursing is hard. Very hard and one of the most respected professions in the world. Don't do it for the respect, admiration, accolades. There will be little of that shown to you. People introduce me as a nurse and sometimes people saw oh, I wanted to be a nurse, or they tell you really good or bad stories of their own dealings with nurses. If what you want is long hours, hard work, impossible feelings of guilt over things you had no control over. Missing weekends , holidays and vacations with your family and friends. It all was ultimitely worth my life experience being a nurse. Administrators, business models, magnet hospitals are usually unaware of what all the team members do. Sure get your Bachelors degree, get paid less than a business person or engineer. If you want an administrative job , or higher education teaching do it. If you want to get the most experience, be an aide first. Feel how they feel. Get your LPN or RN, medical assistant, surgical tech, EMT. The AAS programs give you great teachers with experience who teach you to be a patient care nurse. BSN's should get paid more if they have some experience in the field. The cost of the education is ridiculous and will not make you a better nurse. You will be taught things you can and should learn later. Get your foot in the door. Graduate programs probably offer the most hands on teaching and they are not as respected as they should be. An AAS , BSN, MSN is not going to make you a better nurse. I have worked as a surgical tech and then a GN then a RN. I went to school at a comunity college. Got an AS in general sciences then a certificate of specialization in Surgical Tech , then went back for my AAS. That does not mean that I am dumber than a BSN. I have more courses that let me understand many sciences and my experience has given me rapid assessment skills. A new BSN will not come out with that. Any nurse should be able to learn and retain information onthe job. The push for BSN and MSN degree nurses is silly in y opinion. I left school with enough credits ( almost for a MSN), but I took courses that would advance my understanding of many areas. If you want more nurses , stop pushing for BSN's at the bedside. Encourage AAS and graduate nurse programs for bedside nurses. I love the LPN's and aides I have worked with but the system seems to be pushing for medical tech's with 2 year degrees in place of the LPN's and aides. That is a shame. The system worked. We had nurses, aides, techs phlebotomists, respiratory, OT, PT etc... It worked. If you replace me with a new BSN you will lose a valuable nurse. Remember anything you do in the service of others is a blessing. You will hurt, cry, laugh , have good and bad days. Don't be a nurse if you just want money.
