The stag sweater brought back so many memories. My mother made one for my father and I had one with horses. We live in the Highlands of Scotland and she actually had to send off to Canada to get the wool!!
I watch The Sheep Game on TH-cam, and know there are thousands of sheep in Scotland. Canada has a boatload of sheep too, I watch Sandi Brock on TH-cam and she’s got about 500 sheep in her barn, plus has friends with more sheep than she has.
If you happen to see a matt cutter, pick it up, or look for a sale and buy one new. The are pretty easy to use and will save you a fortune on framing art. Since your son is an artist it’s an investment that will pay off in no time!
All that snow and ice gives me the shivers. Driving on that stuff is in my past and I'll enjoy it from the safety of my window. You are a brave man Alexander. I like the dolls.
The sweaters are Mary Maxim bulky knit sweaters . The company still has a store in Paris Ontario . My Grandmother knit them for my brother and me .Lined with silk it was my winter coat .
Thank you for taking us along! I really enjoyed this. I can't help but love the "pickin' " Even in thrift stores or not-hoarder homes. ;-) You can't always have a "hit". And, "GO JASON"! with learning guitar. That's awesome.
I’m sure you know how much that keychain will mean to your son. Taking interest in his interests, letting him know you are thinking about them during your busy day. Good job.
Oh! I’m a knitter and I love old sweaters. I have only made a few sweaters and I would love to try to make a sweater like that. I love your shoplifting singing show tunes idea! 😂😂
There's a few TH-cam channels that teach how to knit or crochet that kind of design. I think one of the ones I watched called it making a graphgan. I remember watching a crochet one, seeing they do it all in single crochet, and thinking there's no way I'm making my very tall son's favorite football team's logo on a blanket in only single crochet. It'd take me multiple years to make.
The Canadians in BC are in my thoughts right now. Some of my NZ compatriots are flying helicopters to bring supplies to those who are cut off. Watching with worry.
Oh man I would love to buy all of those lanterns to decorate my yard with! The kitchen poster is great too! I really think Victory Gardens should be brought back. Between the pandemic and events like the unfolding tragedy still happening in BC it just makes sense. Definitely continuing thoughts and prayers for BC from Northern Alberta.🙏 💞
It’s been a while since I’ve watched one of your videos, this reminded me why I enjoy them so much! They are wholesome and You are just so pleasant and real!!
I never donate goods to Goodwill. They are not a charity. They are a business that takes in goods for free, and then mark it up to astronomical prices, and there is usually no picking for resellers to be done. The CEO of Goodwill is a billionaire. I would find charities like Women and Children's Shelters, Animal Humane society thrift stores and Hospital Auxiliary thrift stores to donate to. They sell stuff at a reasonable rate and they get rid of it quick and don't contribute to the huge landfill problems like Goodwill. Many Goodwill's also destroy stuff before they put it in the dumpster and the dumpster divers can't salvage any of it. In my book, the company is not the best place to give to. I still buy stuff from them every now and then because sometimes the ones putting stuff out on the shelves do not know what they have, but most of the time, they look up what it is worth on EBay and sell it for about the same. It is shameful. They also have an online auction site which is where they sell the higher end goods for lots of money.
I truly enjoy your sharing these little day in the life sort of videos such as this. Watch out for the weather up there. Stay well. Take care of yourself, Melissa.
I'm not sure I'd use them outdoors (I live in an area that gets hail). The glass is pretty thin. I learned that the hard way, just washing it. It cost me quite a bit to replace it, too.
One of the main things I look for in thrifts these days is artwork-old original paintings and vintage prints. I might have grabbed one or two of those dietz lanterns for a "power has gone out" situation.
When I saw you were going to look at a "hoarded" house, I thought, "Oh no!" Remembering that you did the Potter's House in the dead of winter. Maybe hold off until spring? 😁 Brrrrr!
That WWI bread poster is awesome. 😍 They didn’t have the ’eat less bread’ campaign in the UK to feed the troops though, but to try and rationalize wheat consumption. Most of the wheat they used in the UK was imported from the US by boat, but in war time they weren’t able to import nearly as much anymore. Also, the Germans tried to starve the Brits into submission for a while, by sinking any supply boats on their way to the UK. They didn’t succeed though, as we know.
I had serious de ja vu! I watched your video, and noted the framed embroidery piece you saw in a thrift shop. The next day I went to my local thrift shop....lo and behold....in the front window was THE EXACT SAME embroidery!! I couldn't believe it. I watched your video again instore, and showed the staff!! What are the odds, considering I'm in New Zealand!!! I took a photo of it, but can't upload it in this comment. It was NZD $45, in an old oak frame!! Such a bizarre coincidence!!
Yes definitely, the art, or framed pics you were looking at, even if you don't care for the pic, if the frame and matting are desirable, grab those up. That will save you tons of money!!
In our shop (about 40 years ago) we had a sign that read 'Shop Lifters will cheerfully be beaten to a pulp'. Gave people a laugh...until they saw my Brother (calmest dude in the world but a big fit unit)! We had fun in the middle of the night when merchandise was dropped off and people would try to steal - we came running - one through the shop (me) and the other (bro) from outside and rounded the corner with what looked like rifles (actually air rifles and we never fired them at people). Oddly after two times of doing this - not thefts...go figure 😎
I'm not a fan of matting on a lot of prints, but in particular the white stuff is too modern looking on that great wartime art. I think it would look much better with no matting, and also the resulting smaller size would be easier to hang in a kitchen. Not having matting, at least to for me, makes the artwork stand out so much more.
I helped my grandmother clean out a chifforobe when I was a teenager and we came across my Mom's 1950's zipper sweater. I loved it so my grandmother gave it to me. My Mom hated it and one day it just disappeared. She says she had nothing to with the disappearance of said sweater, but to this day, I still wonder about that, lol.
It would be a little sad to see that old survivor Ford get rusty from winter weather and salted roads. In any case, I hope you got some good snow tires on it.
Alex, you have a great eye for fun and valuable kitsch(maybe the wrong word) and you know what pleases the eyes. I have a bad habit of buying 50 cent coffee mugs at Goodwill because they are aesthetically pleasing; bad habit because I don't drink coffee:)
I dont remember those dolls from th 90's which would be around the time my daughter would be interested in them. Glad they turned out to be worth that much. Like the graphics on that picture for the kitchen. Thrift stores are fun . Ours seem to be mostly clothes. Keep Safe ❤Keep Well ❤
Best Pick sometimes is what Not to collect, For added traction in the snow and ice on your RWD Ford Truck install a 245 lbs Precast Concrete Parking Curb / Bumper in the back behind the cab...
The white matte is ok, but I was thinking of a natural or waxed pine. The black and silver look nice but maybe too fancy for a piece encouraging austerity.
You need to check sold prices, not asking prices. It’s a more realistic reflection of what people are getting for items, but you still have to balance that with being an in-person store (ie a smaller clientele).
That deer sweater is nice. I'd be begging you for it if I lived closer. :-) People are asking high prices for stuff on Ebay. Will they get it? Not sure about that... Dolls of any kind aren't big sellers these days, I'm donating to charity the ones I have.
Im a autograph collector who frames his own stuff up and cuts mounts you don' need to take it to the framers all frames are standard sizes measure back of the frame the hard board bit to get right size and you will find them if its just a simple place of taking off the back and changing frames saves a fortune, I find olive green works well with most autographs black or light blue
I believe I have the same 1 4qt I think it is ( was my moms ) have smaller 1 in other pattern/colors but trying to watch for that pattern for you. Will inform you if I find them
Nice Ford truck. I have always liked the older Ford pickups
Brought a smile to my face when you mentioned your son is playing Beatles tunes. I saw The Beatles in 1964 in Toronto. Best group ever.
Oh my beloved Pinocchio! I loved him so much! Great to see him again after all these years! ❤
Truly Canadian when you go antique picking and thrifting in a snow storm.
The stag sweater brought back so many memories. My mother made one for my father and I had one with horses. We live in the Highlands of Scotland and she actually had to send off to Canada to get the wool!!
Ha ha someone gave my daughter a kit to knit two teddy bears and the kit came from Scotland! Go figure?
My mom made me one with horses, too! And a polar bear for my dad.
I watch The Sheep Game on TH-cam, and know there are thousands of sheep in Scotland. Canada has a boatload of sheep too, I watch Sandi Brock on TH-cam and she’s got about 500 sheep in her barn, plus has friends with more sheep than she has.
@@JudyHart1 I love and watch both of those channels to!

Too true!
Matting is simple and inexpensive once you get the knack, and have a good steady hand.
Seen the price of toys, especially boxed just skyrocket of late! Great Find Alex

For those of us not in it , the snow makes it a nice wintery backdrop . Noticed the Christmas music already playing in the store .
Love the keychain! And I think you made the right call on the framing.
Enjoyed te video! Thanks for taking us with you in the snow storm....
The kitchen poster is absolutely amazing what a phenomenal score
🍀👍🍀thanks for taking us along. 😊
I love the sweaters!
Enjoyed. Cool key ring for your son.
Nice treat after the live feed earlier!!!
I’m sure you know how much that keychain will mean to your son. Taking interest in his interests, letting him know you are thinking about them during your busy day. Good job.
I'd pick up the orange in the photo and do that color for the matting with a cream underlay and the black frame
What a nice surprise!!
The sweater is a Mary Maxim pattern, probably some on EBay, there are a bunch on Etsy

In Chilliwack ( FraserValley) and it is a mess out here.. thank you NZ for the help..

I loved the needlepoint lady. In a more grandiose frame, she would be a divine maximalist piece; very marketable. Fun day!

I love hoarder house episodes so fun

Instead of Goodwill I donate to local charities and local causes like our Habitat Store.
Whatever is true about Goodwill, they are not in business to be wholesale houses for resellers. They sell retail.
Goodwill in America pays disabled people lower than minimum wage. It is legal, but immoral.
Poster is way cool!
I LOVE that kitchen poster! The frame you chose looks great too. REMEMBER TO THUMBS UP EVERYONE!
I truly enjoy your sharing these little day in the life sort of videos such as this. Watch out for the weather up there. Stay well. Take care of yourself, Melissa.
You are brave to be out and about I. This kind of weather.
He's from Alberta, Canada and impervious! 💪🤭
If you’re in Canada (or the Northern US) and don’t go out in the snow, you’re stuck inside for a good part of the year.
Those lanterns would be cute on your back deck or front porch.
I'm not sure I'd use them outdoors (I live in an area that gets hail). The glass is pretty thin. I learned that the hard way, just washing it. It cost me quite a bit to replace it, too.

I manage 3 frame shops. Please be sure to put UV glass on that beautiful piece. You don’t want it to fade. JMHO,
Yikes! Still want to visit your shop, but waiting for Canadian weather to be a bit more tolerable. It looks so coooooold!
When I saw you were going to look at a "hoarded" house, I thought, "Oh no!" Remembering that you did the Potter's House in the dead of winter. Maybe hold off until spring? 😁 Brrrrr!
well one good thing, the smell is better in the winter.
Led Zepplin's 4th album depending on the pressing could be worth some bucks

I love that you all have snow! I am looking forward to having some down here in the lower 48.
Hello my friens. I am back after a what seems to be a long COVID-19 boohoo. What a blessing you and your wife are.

Love seeing Johnny Cash albums. Really gets me excited. 😄😀
Wow I love the chalkware very cool video
cool finds!
Those lanterns would look good hanging around a country home back deck. Have some like this on a lake cabin deck.
You guys have way more snow than we've had here down in Red Deer. wow
Love your channel and all your great videos. I noticed on the last screen of this one that Curiosity is misspelled. 😊

The original Kiwi boot polish was first manufactured in Australia in 1906. It has been on the market for 115 years.
Still the best!
It would be a little sad to see that old survivor Ford get rusty from winter weather and salted roads. In any case, I hope you got some good snow tires on it.
Undercoated it and waxed it before winter
What a very appropriate Kitchen poster for you on the Keto lifestyle, Alexander. 😆

Lucky you, Goodwill charges a dollar 49 for beat-up old mugs down here.

“Shoplifters will be made to perform and sing show tunes”, you should get that made for your store! It’s so You!
Yay! a double dose of Alexander and family. You made my day. :)
I love the Bossons…after my FIL passed away, my daughter got the faces (as we call them), my son got the animals and I got the flowers/plates.
My Dad had a sweater exactly like the one with the pheasant
I love the picture for your new kitchen
The white matte is ok, but I was thinking of a natural or waxed pine. The black and silver look nice but maybe too fancy for a piece encouraging austerity.
I would like to see the Bosson heads. If you can show more that the one.
Good call on the sweaters and swim suits - tre chic!
love the Bossons faces, always have

Vintage or vintage look oak frame would be my choice.
The brown-gray looks good
Yep 👍 Do your own painting 🖼. Many several paintings and your family can chose & put the others in the shop.
Fun video. Wondering if that snow system is headed my way in Saskatchewan…🤔
Question for snow people - why don’t you put your hoods over your head while you are outside while it is snowing? (From a southern Arizona gal.)
That is reserved for the really bad weather ;)
I wear a toque or I freeze

Yuck, hate seeing the snow. Coming here in Northeast PA soon. Stay warm. Not all days can be grand slams. Stay safe.
Awesome yu sure know your antiques 😎
If Alex says he’s going home because “its a little slippery out there”, you know the weather’s pretty bad!😁
I saw on one of the newsfeeds that the snow was pretty bad in Edmonton. Hope everyone there stays safe. Hi from Queensland.
Those sweaters are Mary Maxim kits. That's the style of the coller. You can still get the kits today. Just need a knitter.
Happy Birthday Melissa! 🎂
Hoarder houses are my fav!!
Edit: bummer 😏
Neat to see kiwi shoe polish on the thift store shelf 🇳🇿♥️
Eclectic Vintage Thrifter from Regina would have loved the china cabinets.
The bulky knit sweaters are old Mary Maxim patterns. My mum made the hunter one for my dad back in the day.
Just black frame will make the piece pop. Keep the white mat
Suggest non glare glass….unless there’s an acid issue whatever that means.
Love buying high school art projects.
gray and brown frame is my pick :)

A big ol' 👍🏻 for the ride-along. Thanks!
My opinion is wait for an antique frame!
Wish I could find an honest person like you down here in So Cal. I have lots of Aqua Pyrex that I have collected over many years.
I don't know if you read these.
But worth a shot the Pyrex bowl you are looking for.
What size / sizes is it that you are looking for ?
We have the big box be and need all other round ones
