    An old trick from my aircraft maintenance days in the USAF, if you have the time, put the races in the freezer for several hours. This causes the metal to contract and the race almost falls into place.

      Rick, great tip. I use that trick on flywheel ring gear installations.

      Is there no problem with the frozen races because of humidity when the start thawing after they had been installed?

      You should be able to wipe the race down to remove the moisture.
      Or, take a few sweeps with a blowtorch

    Thank you for this turtorial. Very detailed and helpful.
    I have been struggling with finding the correct bearings to fit my spindles and also work with a new rotor/hub. I am gonna grab the bearings that fit my spindle and a new rotor, punch out that race that is included with the rotor and place the one that fits the bearing into the new rotor.
    Once again excellent job. 😎🤘

    THANK YOU FOR A VERRRY GOOD & INFORMATIVE video!!!
    I had no idea how to proceed. My Dad's boat trailer sat unused for over 10 years and the races were SHOT !!! I cleaned them up but didn't know how to proceed further. Now, thanks to your expert teaching; I will either purchase or turn a bearing race installer and proceed with knowledge! THANKS AGAIN !!!

    Good tips! I didn't think to cover the exposed iron inside the hub to prevent rust. Next time i pack it I'll do it right!

    Hi: Before you tap in the race, do you put grease on the hub? so there would be grease as well between the race and hub.. Does it matter if you kink the hub a bit when removing the race?

    • @waynesgarage8579
      @waynesgarage8579  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The race is a tight fit to the hub so grease is not needed. If you accidentally nicked the hub while removing the old race, inspect and see if it’s sticking out a lot or not. You can file down a little and go ahead and install the new race.

      I acquired a set of these thru an old timer mechanic. If you search Amazon, there’s some decent sets for about $30
