How Harmony Of The Seas Differs From Allure and Oasis Of The Seas

- On my recent cruise on Harmony Of The Seas, I noticed four major areas of improvement compared to her sister ships, Oasis Of The Seas and Allure Of The Seas.
I'll show you improvements made to the cabins... compare how the adults-only Solarium area differs from not only Oasis and Allure, but also Anthem Of The Seas... talk about specific things Royal Caribbean did to speed up the embarkation process... and introduce you to the three new waterslides, plus the "Ultimate Abyss" thrill slide.
While this video certainly doesn't cover every little difference between Harmony Of The Seas and her sisters, it gives you a good look at some of the most important ones and helps you understand why Harmony is definitely the one you want to sail on if you decide to check out the largest class of cruise ships in the world.

I'd just like to point out the guy wearing the "Vote For Pedro" t-shirt at the 7:32 point in the video. I may be nearly 60 years old, but I got the "Napoleon Dynamite" reference and I laughed to myself when I noticed that shirt!

This channel is amazing. I have absolutely no interest in going on a cruise nor do I even care about cruise ships, but I can not stop watching this dudes reviews of cruises. His voice is perfect and reminds me of a late night radio host. The tempo of his voice is always consistent and even though hes just talking about features of cruises, he some how makes it interesting as hell.
Thanks! That's very nice of you to say. My first career out of college was as a radio announcer... but I couldn't make any money at it. So, I got a "real job". But in my heart, I'm still a DJ in the 1970s. TH-cam offers a great outlet for me to do some "broadcasting" again.

Very good video tour of the ship. The best I’ve seen so far of any ship. Clear and concise narration without trying to be funny and entertaining which is more than I can say about other I’ve seen. And THANKFULLY no shaking cam. Keep up the good work.

Jim, thank you for this review. We just got back from the St. Thomas, Bahama,St. Kitt cruise on Harmony. I am still overwhelmed by this ship.Food, entertainment, comedy, music, food, drinks, food, fun, singing, drinking, fun..sorry, got carried away. I have never heard a bad review on this ship. If it was bad, they didn't travel on the Harmony. We're marking our calendar for next year. We're seniors in our upper 60's and the crew accommodates everyone fine. One thing I will do I take my scooter chair with me. It's a lot of walking, but fun, so I won't walk so much next trip. Thanks again for the fine review ..Maybe See you on the Sea next trip !

Your videos are hands down the BEST cruise vlogs around and unlike another vlog with 2 women you don't beg for tips and use a great camera and not a potato camera like they use. Keep up the great work!

I was on Harmony last week. I could not imagine having the Solarium enclosed. I was too hot as it was. Thankfully, the wind gusts made the experience much better.
I have been on Oasis and Allure and we are going on Harmony in Oct. I disagree on one thing. I'm glad they did not close in the solarium.. The breeze is actually relaxing. The palm trees gently blow as if you're on the actual beach. Maybe if they had it to where the roof can open/close when it rains so we can still have access to it like they do on the newer Norwegian ships.

I love this video! We have been debating the different ships and this helped tremendously! I love that you made a video on the comparisons between sister ships. I've not found that before and is nice to have the small things pointed out..as they do make a difference. Also, the videos are so clear! I have subscribed and am excited about seeing your other ones.
ck Moss I’ve been on Allure and Harmony. 7 days with a balcony room on both. There really almost identical with the exceptions of the slides. As he pointed out the closets location is really the only other noticeable difference, and it really is minor, unless your both trying to get into the closet at the same time. How often does that really happen? You’ll have a great time. A bit of advice if you’ve never cruised on one of the Oasis class ships is to be sure you plan your entertainment schedule in advance, preferably before embarkation. Venues are small compared to the guest count so you may miss shows you want to see if you don’t reserve in advance. On the smaller classes, reservations are necessary.

When we called RCL a few months ago when booking Harmony, they knew that we went on Oasis a few years either. They told us that they were pretty much the same thing. This video proves them wrong! We're really excited to get onboard Harmony in July! Thanks for the wonderful video!

hey the girl in 4:54 on the water slide is now a sport staff I saw her on the mariner of the seas and asked if she was on the April 2017 sailing and she said she was !lol!
I went enjoying on this ship from 25th to 4th sep 2019 till morning time it's amazing trip like a dream. Amazing service, very good food although I am vegetarian still I enjoing. Cruie staff very good service don't have words to explain I save money for next trip to salute to all allure of the sea staff .God bless them.

just got back from harmony !! pretty much the same as allure and oasis if you ask me but the solarium in the front is really missing that big pool with showers in the middle, that was really nice and it was cold ! hope they fix that one day ! great videos mate
Really enjoyed this video. Have sailed only on Carnival for the last 10 years, now that we've made platinum we've decided to branch out and check out the other cruise lines. Liked getting a comparison of these ships also.
I did mostly Carnival at first, too. You might also want to look at Norwegian Cruise Line, and Viking Ocean Cruises.

Life is short, get a drink card. Don’t go with an inside cabin...get a balcony. If you wanna balcony, get a suite! No one ever said on their death bed, I wish I saved a few bucks on that last cruise with my bride!

Carnival does the cabin card at your room service as well, plus they take your picture off your passport. Glad most cruise-lines are making processes faster for embarkation.

The "new" lower level in the Solarium that you say, Oasis & Allure also have it.
However, it's not covered with glass! They just kinda extended the Solarium covering the front area over the bridge that in Oasis & Allure that area is open air!

We went in October on a western Caribbean 7day..stayed in a owner's suite..wow..loved it..this review is very informative ..went on Mayan ritual healing excursion and it was excellent..different from other excursions in a relaxing way. Try it

I REALLY likethe idea of an "adults only" section! I don't think I have been aboard a ship which had that, except for certain restricted shows at night, which is an entirely different thing.
Casey Vee it is nice, but not strictly enforced. There may be a child or few present, but not routinely made to leave unless the begin to cause some disturbance. Although, on the Freedom class and smaller that have pools in the solarium, children are not allowed in the pool. That is strictly enforced. Oasis class only has hot tubs in the Solarium, which children aren’t allowed in anywhere on board.

If they enclosed the solarium on oasis class it would be a incubator inside. Anthem does cooler climate cruising out of jersey most of year thats why its enclosed. When you are in hotter climates on anthem it is scorching in there. Ive been on both.

Thank you! I was a radio announcer in my early years. I really wanted that to be my forever career, but I couldn't make enough money at it to support my family. So, I had to get a "real job". One of the things I really like about making TH-cam videos is that I do sometimes get to do some voice-over work or, in the case of this particular video, some on-camera speaking.
Wow, I hadn't heard about the new lower level of the Solarium. I'm sure that helps just a bit as it was so crowded up there on the other ships. Someone mentioned that they have "misters" up there now? Did you see those? Even though I found the Solarium really cool, because of the glass, you can't get a tan, so, for that reason, I miss the older versions. Solarium Bistro was awesome though. I loved all that health food! Did you try eating up there? Is it still free for breakfast and lunch? Also, what did you do for excursions? I always like to hear what people did. Awesome little tidbits. Great video!!!
Yes, they have a water feature that's kind of like a shower large enough for about six or 8 people to stand under it and it very lightly sprays water to cool you down. On a really hot day, it would be a good way to cool down. But I only saw someone use it once during the entire week, as the open design of the roof doesn't allow it to get very hot in that area.
I'm not a Solarium Bistro kind of guy, so I didn't eat there at all. Health food is not my thing! Plus, our cabin was at the aft end of the ship... so it was much easier for us to use the various dining options that are back there at the aft, rather than walk all the way up to the Solarium Bistro for a meal. I'm 99% sure it is still a free dining venue.
In Nassau, we took a beach excursion to Balmoral Island, which was excellent, although the ocean water was cooler than I would have preferred. The ocean water warmed up considerably once we got to St Thomas. We did a snorkeling excursion in St Thomas and I saw more turtles than I've ever seen before.

Cool, I'll check out your website. Never heard of Balmoral Island. I'm going to check that out. We usually do the Champagne Catamaran Sail & Snorkel excursion to St. John when we stop in St. Thomas. When I was on Oasis in November the Solarium was very hot. Funny that you're not a "Solarium Bistro kind of guy", LOL! On the newer ships, RC has some great options for a health food freak like me, but generally most cruise ship food is horrible and makes me feel gross when I indulge. Probably because my body isn't used to it.
I have never been on a cruise-ship would like to try it this year.
My experience on Allure was that the higher priced restaurants were 5 star caliber but overall the ship was dangerously understaffed. I wrote RC off after that trip.

Thank you for your great videos! On your website, you mentioned that out of 27 cruises that you've been on, the Allure of the Seas ranked at the bottom. My question is.... out of all the cruises that you have taken, which of the cruise lines or cruise ships has the best food without an extra charges?
I would have to say Princess. They had a really good buffet. For example, at dinner, in the Carnival buffet, they almost always serve just one kind of potato: a baked potato, every single night of the cruise, in the buffet. But on Princess, in the buffet at dinner, I think one night I counted five different choices of potatoes! Seems like Princess was trying harder to offer lots of choices in their buffet.

GREAT video, and I agree with what many others here say, very professionally done video. I just have one question... you mention that the key cards are left outside your suite door to pick up when you get onboard... doesn't that pose some type of security risk? What if someone else picks up your card on the way to their room? Thanks for your work on the video :)
During the period when passengers are arriving at their cabins to pick up their key cards, the room stewards are in the area. When they see a passenger arriving at their room, they stop by to introduce themself and make sure the right guest is at the right room picking up the right key card.
What type of Camera did you use, What type of Mic, What type of editing software. Really well done. We are booked on Harmony of the Seas at Xmas 2017 from New Zealand.. No one told us that we need photos to be sent in prior to travel can you explain. Does the Company get in touch with you before you go asking for photos?
The camera is a Canon digital SLR, the EOS 80D... a great camera for professional quality still photos or video.
The microphone is an Electro Voice RE-20... which is the microphone used by most American radio stations. Perfect for voice work.
The editing software is Corel Video Studio.
Regarding uploading your photos to Royal Caribbean...
It's done as part of the online check-in process. You can do that at any time after you've made your initial downpayment on the cruise. So, just go to RoyalCaribbean.com and click on "Already Booked" at the top of the screen, and then click on "Online Check In". During this check in process, you give them all your personal information such as your birthdate, address, passport number, and credit card that you want onboard charges applied it. During this process, you will be asked to upload a photo of yourself.

My major complaint with the Solariums on the previous Oasis class ships was that the "pool" there was so small, now they did away with it completely, very disappointing.
And I loved the Diamond Lounge overlooking the Royal Promenade, I can see how they probably became too small for the number of Diamond members aboard, but moving it "undergound", below the Promenade, is still a bit of a downgrade for me.
Oh, and of course getting rid of the Viking Crown Lounge in favor of a Suites-only area. But this has been done on the other Oasis class ships as well, but still, the Viking Crown somehow was a signature feature for Royal Caribbean.

Jim, love your videos. I too cover many cruises and other events, wonder what camera are you using for your video work. Are you shooting with a GoPro only or other gear. I like your smooth pans as well. Love to have you look at some of mine, I too create videos using a Nikon D7200 and now starting to shoot with my iPhone 8 Plus which I have found gives me similar quality as my Nikon, but a lot easier to use and requires a lot less equipment.
Most of the shots in this video were done using a Canon 80D digital SLR camera, mounted on a tripod. There may have been one or two shots with a GoPro, but for this video, I mostly used the Canon. A tripod with a fluid head works wonders for getting those smooth pans.
In my more recent videos, I use a GoPro more and more... usually mounted on a gimbal. On my next travel video, which will be a trip to a land resort in Cancun, I'm going to test out the new GoPro Hero 8, which has some pretty effective imagine stabilization built in to it. Theoretically, I won't need a gimbal or a tripod. We'll see how reality matches up to the theory!
Thanks for the info...Funny in all these years I never got a fluid head for my tripod. I often use hand held videos using my camera strap tight against my neck and my two hands This gives me three points of contact and not too bad at all. Have a look at some of my work. You have a great speaking voice, mine is getting a bit rusty...so I depend on the people I am filming to do my narrations. It was 44" when I was there. I think it's the water slides that had a 48" height requirement. But it's also possible that Royal Caribbean changed the requirements since I was there.

It's a very nice ship. Main dining room service was sketchy. Had requested 7 pm seating while Booking. They changed it to 8 PM. That would have been okay, but. our appetizers were served at 9:15
Dining room service was horrible. Otherwise the cruise experience on Harmony was very good. Request early seating for dinner if you want to eat before 10 PM.

Have you looked into MSC Cruises? If you're mostly into domestic ports, I'd think it's worth looking into.
Yes. I'm worried about the food. I'm a picky eater. From what I've read, they're food is more European-focused than American. Could be a problem for me. I pretty much have my cruising plan laid out for 2017 and 2018 already. Perhaps in 2019 or beyond, I might consider a cruise with MSC. For right now, I'm really interested in doing more cruises within The Haven on Norwegian Cruise Line. Every one of those I've done so far has been fantastic, so I want to try The Haven on every Norwegian Ship that has one. That's pretty much my 2017 and 2018 plan.

Harmony of the Seas is younger than Allure or Oasis however, it is a bit larger in size. Soooo how would it be the big sister?
Probably the reason for the window cuts on the solarium on Harmony of the Seas is to cut down wind resistance on a ship of that size. Fuel costs big bucks, and to have that area fully cloaked by windows would definitely increase costs, and you know who will pay for that!
Yes we had the picture taken in February in the Ovation of the seas but now... that we are planing - God willing - to go again in November... our agency sent out pictures before hand,... good idea that is isn't it?

Whaaaat?!!! They let you on the slide with the camera? They wouldn't allow me to do that. Also I guess they had both types of closets. My cousin and I had the single big closet. On the left side when you walk in you have bathroom, two beds and sofa that leads to the outside balcony. The right side had the walk in closet, desk, flat screen then two chairs and a table.
I had the maiden cruise in the Med. I had an amazing time. I'd like to go again but the ship goes out of Florida. I don't care much for those cruises.
