You gotta admit though Tyler Perry had the guts to make that movie studio. I'm tired of his movies and shows too but his studio is to be commended. Also he lets director's and producers use his studio as well for their shows so I feel like that's also how he's holding that power and keeping his position with those trash movies

Yep. This, and with In Living Color, with Jamie Fox’s depiction of a dark skinned black woman. So many people (black men, in particular) have come up on bashing black women, especially dark skinned black women, and it’s sad to see that it’s probably a big reason why the community still seems to hate them. It was reinforced in us as kids/young adults. Pam was beautiful and I kind of always hated that she played that part. It did well for her career, but I wonder how it feels to come to work and be called ugly a hundred different ways. Then go out into the world and still have it happening.

The problem I have with people pointing out how Tyler Perry is hiring so many black people is the fact that they are only working for him because they HAVE TO. Black actors NEED the work so of course they're going to go to the person who is willing to hire them.
If black actors had more options to choose from, would they choose Tyler Perry? Probably not.

    • @BooDotBoo
      @BooDotBoo 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Yep. And that’s proven by the fact that most of his movies and shows tend to have newer actors no one has heard of or actors who really don’t get work anywhere else. Do you see the big name actors coming back to his movies? I doubt we’ll see Angela Bassett in a Tyler Perry movie ever again because she didn’t really need to do it then, but she REALLY doesn’t need to now. In fact, any actors who got decent enough exposure from his movies have never been back. He’s working with the black actors who really don’t have a choice and want the exposure, hoping they can get on in Hollywood.

    2. Daddy’s little girls
    3. Why did I get married 1&2
    4. Good deeds
    5. Madea family reunion

There's a movie he did with Thandie Newton called Good Deeds about a single mom. I thought it was pretty good, and enjoyed the direction he took with that one. I also really enjoyed Daddys Little Girls, while it did have some extra drama in there, overall it was enjoyable and is a classic in the culture. I would also say that Why Did I Get Married is a classic for comedy relief. And I would say that he used that movie to highlight beauty in someone overweight and showing that character finding love. I do get your bigger point about how women have been portrayed
As an adult, I take issue with Martin and Jamie Fox's depictions, funny as they were to me as a child and teen.

Tyler Perry doesn't want to make movies and shows that speak to the issues that black folks are facing in today's society. If he taps into this arena with talented writers, he can bring more awareness to his fans and capture the attention of other black folks. He refuses to do this because of losing deals and his Caucasian fans.
If you mention Tyler Perry to any Caucasian, they'll reference the Madea character and don't know anything about other characters in his movies/plays. He's stuck in the early and mid 2000s.

He's constantly creating movies for Generations that have since transitioned or are now elderly, while fails to read the room of many Gen Xers, but mostly young adult & adult Millennials - Gen Z who have stated they are not interested in his style of production, writing, and the material he puts out into the world. He'll learn.

TP can't create Soul Food, but his limitations have made him a billionaire who can create generations of Blk writers, producers, etc. But he wont invest in anything multi-faceted. Selfishly, TP has (& gets to be) the only Blk man in the industry with the resources and means to create various projects on a whim. All that power is wasted on him, b/c he's happy to profit off of Blk caricature(s), stigmas and the very worst aspects of us, rather than investing in future Blk talent that isn't stereotypical and that highlights the best of us.

on Martin, they talked about Gina’s features:
    - How big her head was
    - Talked about her light skin in a negative way as well. Sheneneh would call her Rudolph the red bone reindeer and say she’d disappear in a snow storm, and tell her to do “the light thing” and back up so she wouldn’t get beat up. And mama Payne what also talk about her light skin.
    - She was called Applehead, big face, and tight eyes with the big face
And Tommy, Cole, and Jerome talked about how gorgeous Pam was.
But I do agree that juxtaposing Pam with Gina didn’t look good. Pam was called out for having nappy hair in her kitchen a.k.a. Buck shots, or beedee bead. And she was portrayed as less refined than Gina in the workplace and sophisticated than up against Sheneneh.
One more thing to point out is that Martin told Tisha Campbell back when they did the movie house party that one day he was going to have her play his woman. And it just so happened that he not only did he have great chemistry with Tichina Arnold in the audition, he found out that she and Tisha were friends so she put them in those roles.
