Camila has also changed labels. There is no excuse. Camila and Normani are from the same group and had the same advantage. Camila is successful because she works harder. That’s it.

    To say Normani was not worth the wait while “Fart” is currently a trending US song just SCREAMS, light skin girlies can be as mediocre as they want but dark skin girlies must be of 100% excellence. Its right in our faces. Ekane literally said it out loudddd! And certain folks still refuse to acknowledge it.
    To say “ yall wanted something different from Normani” is apart of the problem quite honestly. Why does she have to fit whatever mold yall imagined for her? Yall never do this for white or light skin artists. Beyonce can put an album about squirrels and yall still gone stream it regardless. How are yall STILL not seeing the colorism at play ? Its blatant. Name a mainstream chocolate girl right now that has had a Hot 100s top ten in the last year? Even the Grammys wouldn’t acknowledge SZA’s album which 100% deserved album of the year, her songs were everywhere.
    It’s draining. Really draining.
    Because the truth is this : Normani could have put out an Adele level album, and we would still be lucky if it even got #15 on US 100. That’s the moral of the story.

Now she has to deliver undeniably grade A content, it can’t be “about squirrels”. It’s that simple. I’m glad she got to release the project bc a lot of people don’t get the chance. I listened to it for myself instead of looking at reviews. People think the way to get noticed is to be mean or messy and it’s really unnecessary. Could the rollout have been smoother? Sure, but it doesn’t warrant unnecessary nastiness. The only controversy that I’ve ever seen Normani attached to is her dancing with Chris brown in one of his videos, but she’s not the only woman in the industry that has either praised or work with him.

And she got James Blake to cuss on a song which absolutely tickles me lol. And they do this without understanding or wanting to understand the various factors set against her:
    - Colorism. We already know mainstream and GP don’t care for dark-skinned girls and the labels don’t give them that push
    - Her parents dealing with back-to-back cancer diagnosis which is already too much
    -the HORRIFIC racism she dealt with being in her former group, caused indirectly by one of her members & her fans and how no one really checked to see if she’s okay
    -The Barbz attacking her like pack rapid dogs b/c she worked with Cardi & is cool with Megan
    - People forever and always holding the fact she was in Chris Brown’s music video while SO MANY OTHER ARTISTS have worked with this man, toured with this man, shouted out this man, praise this man and I hear nothing but crickets
    And its FRUSTRATINGLY exhausting how people make videos after videos dragging her

    I can’t picture Normani, Chloe, Tinashe, Monaleo, Latto etc, not being much bigger if they’d been out then
    But it could be a perspective thing. Maybe before, certain artists weren’t as mainstream, but they still had strong fan bases and a lot of support

    I remember i saw some comment on YT saying Normani needs to be in a scandal to boost her up. This was like three years ago when Wild Side came out. Woman has been through so much. Both her parents have cancer and fighting it. She dealt with racism in the group. All these "fans" talking about she needs to be on social media on more. And while that has some merit for her career, I love that she keeps some distance from it. There is a lot of toxic people on here claiming to be something else.
    Her mental health is more important. It's the source of her life and her career. She's grown up and still growing up. I'm not here for these essay videos about her "flopping". I'm so happy that this man made this video addressing this and doing so from a very honest standpoint. Bravo to King of reads. I'm a Normani fan and I have always felt like people just thoroughly enjoy shitting on her. Their takes about her are never from the standpoint of someone genuinely interested in her presence in popular music. They really just enjoy raining all her parade. These people will say that her album didn't sell more copies because they lost interest in her... But when motivation peaked only at number 33 on the billboard Hot 100 they called it a flop, thus revealing that they haven't supported her career going back to 2019. Yet, from 2019 till now, all they've done is criticized this poor girl. I'll even bring up the Chloe comparisons. Let's be real, a lot of the pitting Chloe against Normani shit came out of Beyoncé fans being bothered that a dark skin, unambiguous, mono-racial black girl like Normani was being referred to as a younger Beyoncé. Something about that rub them the wrong way so much that they pretended to be Chloe fans just to weaponize Chloe against her. What makes it even more interesting is, now that they see that Chloe is a great live vocalist and feel like, when it comes to live singing and performing, Chloe can keep up with Beyoncé... They now hate Chloe and simply don't support her career. These people will pretend to criticize Normani from the viewpoint of being a fan when they know they're not and they went as far as to pretend to be Chloe fans just to weaponize Chloe's existence and popular music against Normani as a humbling tactic. You can tell by the way that a lot of the black gays talk about men, by what their preferences are and by who they lust after that the overwhelming majority of the black gays are deeply anti-black and that deep anti blackness definitely bubbles to the surface when it comes to colorism. It is simply doesn't matter how many tire takes they offer up trying to say that the colorism isn't the issue Because anyone who understands how colorism functions knows that it is.

I didn’t expect kindness from the white latinx community or from the white pop fans, but I never expected black ppl to add on the pile on, that was the biggest surprise. The Nicki fans that decided the two women had “beef” over an unfollow (celebs unfollow each other all the time). Since her teen years she’d been harassed for such minor things that fans decided was a slight against their fave artist. She is a sweet shy person so it’s weird for people to project all this onto her. If she wasn’t darkskin they would just see she’s nice and an introvert, nothing deeper.

    I really want Normani to win. I enjoyed the album mostly although I feel that some songs are half done or are filler songs for her debut. I expected something strong vocally, but really am enjoying the album sonically. I feel that people need to relax already calling her a failure.
    Vocally, not given bridges, some melodic rap here and there, and there’s a lot of electronic filter over the vocals. She needs to get through this era to get to her more creative side where there isn’t as much pressure hence more creativity.

    I watched her Terrel interview and I'm starting to think it's a taste thing with her.. she didn't seem interested in the only two possible hits on the project. Literally downplayed them! She wants us to want vocalist Normani but...🤷🏿

    • @JO-fk5ho
      @JO-fk5ho 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      The reason I believe she downplayed it is because of the response online. Her attitude prior to release was one of excitement from tweets to TikTok challenges, the Bose commercial-all active engagement. The Terrell Show aired yesterday, coming a decent amount of time after the negative think pieces, and it’s like a complete 180 in her delivery. I actually sensed more sadness, and a sense of defeat/failure in her interview than downplaying. Sometimes, after shitting on something special that someone was once excited about, they too start to see what they were into as stupid. This is also known as bullying.

      @@JO-fk5honot true. she’s very hypercritical of herself. The album is getting good reviews and decent metacritic score for her first album. I don’t see many people saying they don’t like it they just didn’t like the rollout. she already explained there was only so much she could do.

    I just feel that Normani isn’t hype enough for the age group shes catering too, I could be wrong but unless it’s a viral tik tok song or it’s one of them
    Brainless sexy red turn up songs it’s just not gonna get a lot of hype. I like her album but I’m an old rnb head so that’s my thing! The new gen isn’t as big on rnb like the 90’s 2000’s imo

    • @TheSomethingnew1

      Yep, her album reminds me of early Brandy and in order to get this generation’s attention. It either has to be simple and fast paced, come with a Tik Tok dance, or have some good music videos. Her album is med-tempo. I love it but she’s going to have to sell the sound to a generation that doesn’t appreciate it.

      I don't think that's necessarily true. What it really boils down to is the fact that she doesn't promote herself and has been inconsistent for 6+ years. Over those 6+ years she barely did anything to build up her fanbase and that is where the problem really is. In the beginning she actually got more of a push than many of the lighter skinned female artists such as Tinashe, Raye, and even Kehlani and they are consistent AF with great music! Normani had a Billboard Music Awards performance with the first song she put out outside of her group Fifth Harmony which is a great marketing tool to set her up for success. Never once have Tinashe or Kehlani had a major award show performance and they have multiple great albums! Normani had a HUGE feature with Sam Smith. Where are the Superstars featuring the light skinned girls like Tinashe, Kehlani, and Raye? Normani did a solo performance at the MTV Video Music Awards as well. Tinashe, Kehlani, and many other light skinned girls have never done solo performances at the VMA's or performed there at all! Normani has had so many more opportunities than a lot of lighter skinned female artists and she didn't capitalize off of it. She had a big push behind her when she first went solo but she waited too long to actually put out an album and now most of the interest from the general public is gone unfortunately. Plus she's practically a ghost on social media and social media presence is crucial to building a big fanbase in today's society.

    The Janet Jackson comparison wasnt quite fair because Janet makes GREAT MUSIC. She made legendary music in a time when it was tough competition on the charts from many other talented artists. This Normani album wasn’t legendary, groundbreaking or innovative. It wasn’t a bad album but it was also not anything special and I would love to see her grow.

      Ok😅😅😅 then go listen to Janet Jackson 'legendary' debut album then .i say this as a janet jackson superfan, it took janet 2 albums (maybe 3) to get to legendary music, her first 2 projects were bad and comercial flops...This is Normani's debut album.

    • @TheSomethingnew1
      @TheSomethingnew1 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I love when yall say this because Janet was not recognized as legendary from her first album lmao it’s easy to say that in 2024 after Janet has reached all of her peaks. That’s why I don’t like comparisons to the greats because y’all always try to compare them to now rather than when those artists first started out. I’d compare Normani’s tone to early Brandy. But her dance moves are very pristine like Janet. Either way, let these new girls make a name for themselves.
