Awesome nostalgic video of great history of basketball cards!! I was a young teenager back in 1990 when this first basketball Beckett price guide came out and it instantly changed everything for young collectors back then where we got obsessed to have to buy that new Beckett price guide every month from our local card shop to see if our cards were going up .50 cents to $1 or down .50 cents to $1 dollar 🤣🤣🤣 And as a young teenager back then I remember thinking that a $100 card in the first Beckett felt like a Million dollars to me as a broke kid 😅
Regarding the forever hobby debate between the MJ 84 Star 101 card and the MJ 86 Fleer 57 card it goes to show everyone that the Star 101 was always considered more valuable even going back to the very first Beckett in 1990!! And back then in 1990 it was almost impossible to ever see a MJ Star 101 in person at a local card shop or card show which it was like an Urban Legend that you only ever seen pictures of it in the Beckett magazines and never in person!
I thought maybe it was the inaugural skybox set. But ya, I had that issue. I searched my boxes looking for my old Beckett's, couldn't find any of them 😢.
@cajuncardboard in the old Beckett magazine.. if you read the details page.. it says that the prices listed reflect mint cards (the high and low price you can expect to pay [the example they give is California-high vs a small town mid America-low]).... then they say... the prices listed for pre 1980 cards reflect near mint cards.. .. and expect to pay a premium for mint cards pre 1980
See if you can find the old Beckett that tells the story of the man that had the only 51 mantle graded Gem mint.. how he payed 10k for it (2x the Beckett price..and people laughed at him) ..and how he wouldn't sell it for less than 100k . Then 10 months later.. someone offered him 100k and he took it..
Love this I have every Beckett issue's with MJ

Everything you said same for me 100000%. I miss those days. Now yards for $10 and go buy packs of cards. Rinse repeat
Thank you for that walk down memory lane.

It actually wasn’t always more valuable. They switched places more than once as far as most valuable.
PSA is going to start grading magazines and comics next year. I have one of these in pretty decent shape that I didn't want to open. Thanks for this!
Cgc or nothing
I have that magazine still since I was a kid. So crazy to see those prices
How good was the monthly Beckett. Seeing all the little up and down arrows 🤣.
Must see the arrows. So exhilarating back then.

If that's a Beckett.... pre 1980 is listed as near mint.. not that it changes much..
Huh?
