I am planning on a castor lure video later this season stay tuned!! For many years the movie Urban Cowboy drove the hatter market and for sure Yellowstone is giving it a good uptake. Only problem is the price the demand is there right now.
Oddly enough, the castor market seems unknown by many beaver trappers around here. Local peddler was buying round beaver at $20 a pop for the big 'uns. He likely made a profit just with the castor. Very good video. Question: do you see a difference in the size of the beaver you catch on your home made besver lure depending on the size of the castors used to make the lure? Buddy swears that big beaver castor lure catches big beaver. I am skeptical. However, some batches of homemade lure are definitely better than others ... Thanks for the video.
Sometimes it is easier for guys to just catch and sell, I will throw in a good set with the shells to make sure it has a good boost to it, plus other essential oils like poplar bud oil. When I get time i will make up a video on the castor lure.
Thanks Jim ... sad that prices are bottoming out on all trapping furs and now castor. How long can you store your castors in a paper bag in the freezer Jim ?
It used to be about 18% at Fha but to be honest it has been 10 years since I have shipped. The shrinkage can be higher if the castor is not dry enough and or not properly handled (to much meat/fat or the extra skin) Under ice beaver in my area in March have a good set compared to open water when they are marking their area. It's easy to buy properly handled castor not so much if moldy or over dried.

One of my future videos will be on how I make my lure. Basically castor some oil sacs, glycerin poplar bud oil and some oil of anile.

I have stored them in the freezer for up to 5 years lots of time 2 to 3 years with no issues.
