So Toby subscribes to the "no one can make a true Mother game besides Itoi" line of thinking. Very based and correct if I do say so myself (no shade towards fan projects).
That should be obvious, though. Sadly, it also attracts that one group of people that throw a hissy fit at fangames such as Mother 4(s) simply because they think it's not made by Itoi so it has no right to be called Mother 4.

This was very cool to see. Its common knowledge that toby was a big Mother fan, but its cool to see him actually talk about it. Omocat, developer of Omori has stated that that Omori was heavily inspired by mother 3, so that would be another mother-like developer i would love to hear interviewed.
I wish he mentioned about his old things like Story of a Soldier or Arn's Winter Quest. I'd love to see those be re-mentioned someday, even though he made them at like 14

Seeing the connecting between Earthbound and Mother 3, Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross, Moon Remix RPG, Bravely Default, YIIK, and Homestuck... old JRPGS and stories about time travel and nostalgia and the end of the world... I pity the folk who find reasons to be so disillusioned with the idea of sentimentality and good feelings of the past, the things that inspire empathy and goodwill between different people. You can learn a lot of new things by looking at older stories like the Tales games and Kingdom Hearts.

Hearing from the Grandfather of Mother saying Toby should make an Undertale 2 is heartening. Hope Toby does make it one day, when he is ready.
