Had a great time with you and Snow down an Tappan. It was good to finally get snow out in the boat with us. Can’t wait to start the rock hoppin at Erie. Those were two beautiful largemouth that you caught and that was a pig of a saugeye that Snow caught. I really appreciate you and Snow getting me into the steelhead fishing and rock hopping for walleye. Have a great week and be safe my brother.

Tappan was such a beautiful lake, especially for being an unlimited HP lake

Thank you very much for the kind words and well wishes. As for mastering Leesville or any lake I don't think it can be done as in "Some days the bear gets you and some days you get the bear" and I caught my 51" musky in a crook of a weird, "L" shaped weed bed that I have tried to hit perfectly for 2 years but always was a little late or a little early in my hard 90 degree turn but the one day I hit the turn just right and BAM the tussle was on with the 51" fish.
I think I hit that turn just right on only 2 other times with no luck. I found out that when I hit a feed window that as fast as you can get the lures back in the water and up to speed get reading because they will hit anything that moves in front of them.
Me and my youngest son caught 4 in 90 minutes one day and had 3 "Rips" in between the fish we caught but the fish didn't get hooked so we kept trolling and just reeled the pole in to make sure everything was ok with that lure.
I never knew there was smallmouth at Leesville either until I saw a big smallmouth floating and swimming on its side, obviously dying while I was trolling for musky. I tried to grab the smally by hand but missed so I decided to troll up a little, turn the boat and net it but a huge party pontoon rented by the Amish come up behind me and wasted no time in grabbing that smally and tossing it into one of their many 5 gallon buckets
My friends father in law would go to Atwood many years ago after a few years of stocking Saugeyes and bring home 2 big suageyes a day and eat them, these were easlly 8 Lb fish. All this old guy did was drive his boat the 3 miles to Atwood, fish for a few hours, bring a fish home and cook it, take a nap, wake up and do it again 7 days a week.
The FiL had to put a bigger carb on his 25 HP motor because his prowess with the BIG saugyeyes become so well known that people would try to follow him so he would outrun them and dive into a crooked cove, hide for a bit then sneak back out to fish a little, ole James Sears was a saugeye king on Atwood until "Black Lung" took his life and then his son in law, my best friend died right after he did at age 32.
For some reson here lately I got the fishing and hunting bug back, maybe it is do to my cancer but this Spring I want to get back out and catch any damn fish that will bite and stay on the hook!
Hope you guys have fun and success on your trip to NY but above all stay safe!

Check your rod tip.(guides) use a q-tip to see if there are knicks. Could be the cause with lures flying off???

@@Teamanfish3 the line was acting squirrely with wind knots as I just spooled it fresh thr night before and something was wrong.
After the third wimd knot it was fine all day.
      Appreciate the tip

My mother in law owns a good sized farm about 1/8 of a mile on the Cadiz end of Tappan Lake. I have never fished Tappan as I live 4 miles from Atwood Dam but I usually only fish Leesville Lake for Muskie.
I haven't fished at all in the last 6 years as I took a new job in 2013 and was too busy and now I have cancer. I finished my chemo and radiation 2 weeks ago and told my wife that if I am still alive in the Spring of 2024 I am going to get my boat going again and pound Leesville but this time I want to show people how to learn and fish the tricky weed beds without getting into them and pulling 20 Lbs of weeds off of the lures. The biggest musky I caught was 51" and my oldest son caught a fat 49" musky that gave me 9 stitches because I didn't have any peroxide or super glue anywhere near my house at 9 PM that night

Sometimes work really puts a damper in our fishing lives, it definitely has mine for sure.
I used to get more keepers at Atwood when there was no size limit. Hahaha
I've only caught 3 musky at leesville but have been fishing it since i was a little boy when it was Petersburg and Clows marinas, I can tell you that it's my favorite lake in Ohio and I always drink from the spring when I go there.
I got a few spots there but far from have the lake mastered by any means. Unfortunately I didn't even fish it this year as my little tin can boat has been down and I've been at the mercy of friends boats.
Hope you triumph over your cancer and are able to put a little more time into fishing, it's great for the soul and body and work is quite the opposite
