Bad Religion is an awesome reminder of a time when "Punk Music" was not just rage but a call to arms. Great to see anyone but especially you react to it and would love to see more.
this song is about persuing a superior being, a someone that is above the reality. Doubt me? "Most people take the song to be about a young guy telling his girl that he's crossing the Atlantic to be with her. In fact the song's got nothing to do with romance or ships; it's an account of mankind's spiritual odyssey through life on his way to freedom and fulfillment with the Supreme Being." Sutherland Brothers original song. this was what this song was intended for, you can iterpret whatever you want.
Rod Stewart has great songs! Maggie Mae! Tonight's the Night! Tonight I'm Yours! Baby Jane! Forever Young! Those are just a start but you should definitely react to them.
This is Bad Religion. You should listen to...all of it. They don't do empty music. Listening since the 80's. You should listen to "The idiots have taken over" By NOFX. Watch the lyrics. Or Rancid songs or so many other great punk bands. Pennywise. These bands are twenty or more years old and still every song is relevant in this crap world. I didn't say crap people, I said crap world. Keep searching and learning and we will learn with you.
It's not obvious to outsiders, but your average anarcho-punk is an avid reader of history and philosophy and it shows in their lyrics. There's party punk and straight nihilist stuff out there too, but a large part of the punk scene involves a really deep and passionate intellectualism that no other genres exemplify short of the more subversive underground hip hop.
Also the key to understanding "American Jesus" is in recognizing that it's a very cynical song. The lyrics are the words he's putting in the mouths of the Christian Nationalists that continue to try to turn our secular country into a religious institution.
I love Rod ♥️ Passion is my favorite 🔥 Another one that has that type of voice is Roger Taylor Queen, Do I’m in love with my car🚗💨 Sorry to hear about your loss 🙏
Bad Religion always got great lyrics and this one is one of the absolut best, a fantastic downtaking of the US and the avengalic church wo make the americans to the choosen ones, something that never would happen in europe, we dont do that crasy nationalistic BS that americans does, so why cant you just stop?
thank god you watched the lyric vid for American Jesus. A lot of people seem to miss Gregs' lyrics

I believe they played Sailing as Royal Navy ships went off to fight in the Falklands conflict 1982

Tonight I'm Yours!
Baby Jane! Forever Young!
Those are just a start but you should definitely react to them.
Sorry for your loss man
*Rod ... swoon*
Rod’s from Scotland. I always thought this was a song of him going Home to Scotland.
Back when I bought Bad Religion tapes (yes I'm that old) it was mandatory to have the lyrics sheet out. BR are the godfathers of punk imho.
Sailing was actually a cover. It's about someone dying and looking forward to being reunited with God.
Wow Billy You So Crazy those are completely different music genres and messages. Way to mix it up dude I liked them both!
