I just realized the shipping cost associated with sending a parcel with Canada Post, and it kind of put an end to my "reselling items we don't use anymore" project. I've been watching videos for a few days now about American flippers who have been having great success with flipping items on Ebay, and I assumed it would be somewhat similar for Canadians. Turns out, those shipping costs really limit what can be sold for a profit. As you said, you either need to sell very expensive items or small, lightweight items that can fit in large envelopes. How long have you been selling items on Ebay? And where / how do you get those good video game deals? Keep making videos-I'll watch them! 😊
Thanks a lot for your comment, and I really appreciate that you find value in my videos! You are unfortunately absoluetly correct, selling items in Canada is quite expensive because of shipping so you haev to either ship very expensive item to make the shipping fees small in relation to the items' price, OR sell small items under 500gr less than about 2cm in thickness. The other alternative is to sell on local markets. Kijiji or FB Marketplace are two good examples and this is where I sell my bigger items. What I would do if I were you is I'd put my bigger items on FB Marketplace/Kijiji and forget them until they sell. Since you won't pay shipping/ebay fees, that will elt you keep a much bigger profit margin in your pockets, but the sales are much slower since you only have your geographical area as potential customers, and not the entire country (or even entire world) as you would on Ebay. I have been selling on Ebay for close to three years now and 99% of the insanely good deals that I got for videogames were from local marketplaces (in-person sales) I hope that answers your questions and I wish you the best of luck!
It's a pleasure and don't hesitate to let me know how it goes and if you have any more questions! Always a pleasure to help people who are actually doers hahaha
Sold an Xbox controller on Marketplace Yesterday ! Happy to turn an item that was sitting in my house doing nothing into 30$. I've added the additional large items on the market and I'm heading to Ebay to sell my video games. I hope I can get things going there so that I get a feel for the platform. And I might start looking for good video games flips in my area as people just want to get rid of stuff ^^. For now I figured that I'll keep my Wii and Switch Setup around so I can be sure games are working. Do you have a similar setup ? Which console are you focusing on ?
Congrats! Yes, I have a similar setup. In fact, I have almost every consoles to test the games I buy. From NES to Xbox One/PS4 generation. Unfortunately, I don't buy games anymore. During pandemic, a lot of people in my area sold games for extremely cheap, I was buying on average one lot per week, but nowadays, people don't get rid of their games for that cheap anymore, at least in my area. If I find other lots of games for a good price, I'll buy them, but unfortunately they are pretty rare nowadays.
Hi Alex. I just want to say thank you, I’m a new seller and trying to learn everything that I can, thank you for your tutorials, your time and effort . It can be very intimidating. I tell myself “you can do this . “ I wish you all the success my fellow Canadian ( Montreal) from the bottom of my heart. 🙏 Looking forward to more of your videos and doing a marathon of your other videos 😂😂.Subscribed.
Thanks for this, Alex! I've been using Calculated this whole time. With Lettermail, there's no tracking. How can you guarantee that the item is delivered, or when the buyer says he didn't get the package.
It's a pleasure my friend! Unfortunately, you cannot 100% guarantee that an item has been delivered or not, the only thing you can do is trust the buyers. When I started selling on Ebay, I was a little afraid that I might get scammed a lot by buyers who claimed "INR (Item not received), but thankfully, it is not somthing that happens frequently. More than 99% of my items are delivered within the delivery timeframes, and the others who haven't been delivered were generally returned back to me with the RTS (Return To Sender) mention on the envelope. So in over 1500 sales I don't think one single person tried to scam me this way, which is very itneresting considering that on other platforms (fb marketplace, kijiji, craigslist etc) scams are rampant.
Thanks for the advice! Have you had any issues (damage or returns) using those envelopes? If you ship a valuable game/cd , can you insert extra cardboard or bubblewrap with exceeding the weight limit (200)?
Hi! In over a thousand games sold, I have never had any issue with a game that has been damaged during shipping. Also, I don't ship valuable games (games over 50$) in a padded envelope and I don't advise doing so; the risk is just too big of the item getting lost in transit. That happens more frequently with envelopes than with parcels. If you insert additional bubble wrap or cardboard, it wont necessarily exceed the weight limit but it will exceed the 2cm thickness maximum to be able to ship with the "Lettermail" rates.
Exactly, the envelopes are untracked and there's no way to see where they are and if the buyer received them. Thankfully, 99.9% of the buyers on Ebay are honest, which is extremely surprising considering that a lot of people on other platforms are really scummy. So if you want to sell on Ebay using untracked envelopes, don't be afraid of people scamming you, it practically never happens :)
Hey Alex, great videos, I'm just getting started and had a questions for you. The shipping in eBay is just an estimated total correct? They don't automatically deduct that from the sale price? Basically, I just need to take my fully labeled and packed item to the post office and see what they charge me to send it? I'm just going to be doing video games and small items like you, using bubble mailers and printable address labels. I guess I'm just trying to better understand shipping. Also, how do you get the ad to say 14.99 + 1.99 from your other video? Sorry for the questions.
Hi and thanks a lot! If you're only selling small items, in this case, you can simply use stamps. Go to any Canada-Post and buy stamps from there. I suggest buying Permanent stamp rolls, they come in rolls of 100. They are 1.15$ each, taxes included. You simply add enough stamps on the padded envelopes, in the top right corner, to cover the shipping rate. Shipping rate for games are always the same; the games are 99.999% of the time around 100g. If the thing you sell in a apadded envelope is less than 100g, the rate is 2.40$ taxes included. If it is 100g-199.9g, it is 3.94$, again taxes included. Just put enough stamps to cover these prices, on thet op right corner. When you post a listing on Ebay, don't choose the "automatically calculate shipping cost" method. Select the "fixed rate" shipping, because the cost will always be around the same anyway. I do 1.99$ for items less than 100g and 2.99 for items between 100g and 200g. Keep in mind that I only ship within Canada; if you ship internationally, it is a bit more complex. Hope this helps. If you have other questions, don't hesitate to ask me.
Great video! I'm looking to get into selling video games on ebay from Canada as well. What are your thoughts on the tracked shipping labels from Ebay Labels for Canada and USA? Is it worth paying a little more for the tracking options? Keep up the great videos!
I have never used ebay labels, but they're only worth it on items that are kind of expensive, otherwise, the shipping will be way too expensive relative to the game you're selling. Also, I never sold to the US except at the very beginning because you aren't allowed to sell anything to the US as a "lettermail" service, you nede to use the "packet-air" options that is a minimum of 10$. And not only that, but you also have to fill a form, which is a lot more time consuming than simply putting an envelope in the red mailbox. Not only that, but I've had a lot more issues with scams/INR claims with customers from the US. After a while, I just decided to stop selling to the US completely.
I can't fully answer that in a single comment since your comment is pretty broad, but basically: 1. Make an Ebay account, this is pretty simple 2. Find things to resell that you can buy for very cheap, generally and preferably in lots 3. Take good quality pictures 4. Write a good title, description, and provide a good and complete description of the item's condition 5. Price your item within the market price 6. Wait until someone buys the item from you 7. Package your item and send it either in a Canada-Post red box or in a post office
As long as you can fit the bedsheets in an envelope that is no maximum than 38cm by 27cm and 2cm thick and it doesnt weigh more than 500g, yes you can :)
Bonjour !!
Thank you for the video, am a Canadian seller and I do struggle a lot with my sales due to shipping costs. But I wanna ask were able to confirm that shipping anything than papers is allowed in letter mail? Or is it just as long as they don’t know the content. Because I heard it isn’t allowed. Would love to hear your opinion
@@AkramMaarouf You are allowed to send pretty much anything you want in Lettermail if you send it within Canada. You are NOT allowed to send anything other than paper if you send to the US using the "Lettermail" prices. If you want to send stuff to the US, the only "legal" way to do it is to pay the "Packet-air" prices which is something like 11$. I don't suggest "trying your luck" by sending stuff to the US that you are not allowed to; it will most likely get flagged in the scanners and your items will be confiscated by the US customs. That's why I don't ship to the US at all. I strictly sell within Canada.
