Favorite trading memory. I was working on my first complete Pokédex, this was before I bought a second switch, and a total stranger and I traded our slowpoke and haunter for their evolutions. No communication, just random and we traded back afterwards the slowking and gengar. Certainly the most memorable one for me

QOTD: In S&S I was stuck on the fire gym with my grookey, klinklang, and literally anything else weak to fire. I decided I would try to get lucky and traded my nickit for a Lvl 60 Seismitoad! It barely followed my orders but I managed to squeak by and finish the rest of the game with relative ease. It’s like when you finally get that sneeze out 😂
Imma guess you mean Klink, cuz you get Klinklang at either level 49 when it evolves from Klang (which evolves at level 38) or at 55+ in max raid battles, and fire gym or not, being double the level would let you curbstomp the gym effortlessly. Also would make more sense when you somehow still had a *Grookey* instead of e.g. a Thwackey.
QOTD: I was a really young kid at a chess tournament and there was this kid who talked about Pokémon with me. He showed me his Jirachi which he got from the Pokémon colosseum preorder disc and I was amazed by it. I showed him my collection but it wasn’t amazing to him until I showed him my Pineco. He told me he couldn’t believe I caught one because he had never seen one in the game. He offered to trade me his Jirachi for my Pineco. Coolest trade of my life.

Back in gen 6, I was getting really into competitive (in part thanks to John's videos) and was Wonder Trading for fun when I got a Shellder from someone named Ophion~. I'd never really thought of Shellder before, but the minute I saw that 3D model, I fell in love and immediately started breeding for a perfect shiny. I didn't get one, but since that was the start of my Shellder love, I still nickname my female Shellders "Ophion~" in memory of the WTer.
My favorite trading memory was from high school. I had just gotten my 3DS off eBay and it came with Pokémon Y, I was playing the game and my home room teacher asked what I was playing and he was like a huge Pokémon fan. Later that week, he brought his 3DS and gave me a Xerneas. He was so cool and although I ended up leaving that school. He was one of the few teachers there that I had genuine interactions with. I hope he’s doing okay.
QOTD: When I was playing with my friend, I got randomly traded a level 100 Tapu Lele after I had failed to catch it the regular way (I didn’t know it comes back and had forgot to save). A bit later after that trade, my friend got a shiny Primarina
QOTD: Just a few months ago I was trying to complete the sw/sh pokedex and realized I was only missing oranguru. So I asked my friend to catch one for me and trade it to me. While he was doing that I took my pokemon go shiny celebi (I also had the one from the newsletter event so I didn't really need it) and renamed it to Deez Nuts. That was the last time its name could be changed. The look of anger and disappointment on his face was priceless. He was angry because he wanted to trade it on the Home GTS (who even uses that), but "No one wants a Celebi named Deez Nuts"

QOTD: Back when sun and moon came out, I was really excited to find Mimikyu because right from the first time I saw it in a trailer it was my favorite. I was pretty bummed when I found out you couldn't get it until late game, but while playing at a friends house I decided to wonder trade and got a Lv. 1 Japanese Mimikyu right at the start of the second island! Very late but…QOTD: In X I received an Arcanine from WT and it was just like level 8. Somehow became one of my most reliable Pokémon in the play through and I think made it onto my champion team. Thank you SgtBears, whoever you are!

QOTD: I remember playing Pokemon White. Just before Lenora's gym, I asked my older sister to battle me. Her Pokemon were underwhelming so I offered her Oshawott for Oshawott, so I could help her Oshawott level up and so she could breeze through the game a bit easier until hers was where it should be. We don't have those Oshawott or even the cartridges any more but it was probably when we were closest to each other.

QOTD: My favorite memory was when I was wonder trading some Pokémon in sun, and this was 2 days before the marshadow codes were released and mid wonder trade some gave me a lvl 100 marshadow before I can get my hands on a code.
For the QOTD I have a story: I went to a daycare and nintendo DS' of all varieties were the thing there, as well as Pokemon games and cards. I was playing Ultra Sun (my first game) when one of my friends recently got a used copy of Sun from Gamestop, which had a heap of a lot of good Pokémon; Ultra Beasts, Island scans, etc. I managed to trade for a level 50+ Squirtle and Bulbasaur, Xurkitree, Buzzwole, Kartana, and Absol. Used most of those on my team, and Xurkitree was my first level 100 'mon. Good times.
Right after I'd gotten my Blue version for Christmas in '97, I was flying back for my mother's house in the next state over (I'd visited my dad that year for Christmas). I had the link cable and everything. I met a kid on the plane and he was playing his Pokemon game as well. We traded Pokemon. I was very new to the game at that point, so I traded my Blastoise for a Haunter and it evolved. Even though I grimace slightly at that trade, I still hold it as a fond memory. :) That Gengar became an absolute beast. I feel these kinds of interactions way back when Pokemon became a thing were what the developers had in mind. Edit: wow, so many youngsters in the comments. It seems the dream for trading memories hasn't died out yet!
When i was doing my shield nuzlocke, I was starting off fresh, and my bud traded me an en route pokemon as a surprise pokemon. I didn't think anything of it. Till I found out it was a shiny Gibble with the right nature, I am pretty sure it didn't have rough skin. But would had been amazing if it did XD
QOTD: I was watching Cypher20K stream SwSh and I sent him $20 just cause. Then he started talking about wanting a Piplup, told him I had a few shiny ones if he wanted one. I sent him the shiny Piplup, he sent me a shiny LATIOS. It was such a cool moment.

My favourite trade was when my brother gave me a shiny gyrados in pokemon sun and moon for like... no reason? QOTD: When I was a kid I was over at my friend’s house and he was always a stingy jerk with trades, he would try to bleed you dry no matter the Pokémon. He had a Zangoose, I LOVED Zangoose I had never had one before so I started trying to trade with him for it and I was offering stuff I should not have been offering for a Zangoose but he was budging and being a jerk about it. Now here’s where I had had enough, he went upstairs to do something and while he was gone I took his game, took the Pokémon and egg he had in the daycare out, put in a ditto along with his Zangoose and bred myself a nice little Zangoose egg, then I traded it over to my game and put everything back just how he had it and he was none the wiser. I even kept up the charade and kept asking for it while smiling on the inside about my new soon to be hatched Zangoose, best part is that when I did hatch it, it ended up being a girl so I didn’t even need ditto if I wanted to breed it again. So if somehow you’re reading this, thanks for the Zangoose Michael 😈
Rewatching the John Michael Cup series and I wish I wasn't such a picky eater. The stuff in the Tokyo Treat box and Sakuraco box looked really good, and the idea of trying stuff from another country is cool and fun, but I know me and my sensory issues would most likely just have a tolerance or an extremely small percentage of items actually in each box (like, one, maybe two items if I'm lucky, three if it's a truly amazing streak of luck), and the majority of it would at best go to my family members who're less cursed in regards to food tolerance, or possibly just go to waste entirely. My favorite trading memory is probably the time I decided to catch a bunch of ditto in my pokémon violet game and surprise trade them out at hours of the day where I was more likely to trade with people playing a different language. The hope/idea that maybe, just maybe, someone somewhere in another part of the world got super excited when they saw they got a ditto from a different language and realized they could use the Masuda method for any pokémon capable of being bred (and potentially were inspired to pay it forward and trade out some dittos of their own) just made me happy.
6:44 i have quite a few-just to name some of the top ones: was wonder trading in pokémon sun, my very first time playing and first time wonder trading. immediately got a level 100 deoxys. was doing the masuda method for a shiny axew, and was naming the failed attempts gartholomew as an inside joke with me and a friend, started trading out some of the gartholomews and halfway through the first box i got a shiny level 100 arceus with pokerus. was trading out more gartholomews a couple days later, got a shiny giratina. the OT’s name was someone’s discord so i added them and we’re friends now 😭😭😭 they helped me complete my pokedex.
i know i'm late to this but i wanted to respond to the QOTD anyway my favorite trading memory was many years ago, when i was doing a lot of wonder trading in ORAS. i got a lvl 100 shiny malamar from a random trade, and it was cool and all but not my fave, but still shiny! but that's not the warm memory. some time after this, i was doing more wonder trades and crossed by someone with what i believe was a Basque name, with a status saying "seeking shiny malamar". so i hit them up with a trade request, and they accepted, so i immediately dropped that shiny malamar into my end of the trade. we couldn't speak but i could tell how grateful they were because they kept trying to offer me a bunch of other pokemon in return, but i denied all but the one i had to accept for the trade itself, because i really just wanted to gift it, nothing else. no regrets whatsoever, i'm just happy to bring other people some joy where i can :)

I have 2 trading memories, both involve legendary/mythical Pokémon. 1. Treecko -> Lunala I had ended a shiny hunt for Treecko, with… not the best results. Thus I was trading the ones that didn’t fit the criteria, some surprise, some link trades, this was one of the link trades. I was trading one of the Treecko, I noticed the guy put in a Lunala, I pressed A. And then the white box with communication warnings came up. I’m sure you can guess what happened then. 2. Egg -> Zarude (Dada Form (why??)) You might think I’m lying, but I’m certainly not, this happened more recently, yesterday, to be exact. I was getting rid of my excess eggs, I was doing link trades as you can’t surprise trade eggs, and then the guy I was trading with, he put in a Zarude (for some reason), and the trade went through. I really have no clue why he traded such a Pokémon. And it was also egg No. 2.

QOTD: I remember playing Pokemon White. Just before Lenora's gym, I asked my older sister to battle me. Her Pokemon were underwhelming so I offered her Oshawott for Oshawott, so I could help her Oshawott level up and so she could breeze through the game a bit easier until hers was where it should be. We don't have those Oshawott or even the cartridges any more but it was probably when we were closest to each other.

QOTD: My favorite surprise trade was in sun and moon, where I was wonder traded a shiny rowlet in a luxury ball(very hacked). Nothing bad has happened to it, and now’s it’s a decidueye. It’s the main reason why it’s my favorite shiny.

QOTD: esrlier this week, someone traded me on Pokémon Home a Mewtwo for a Dragalge that I then used to trade for a legendary I didn't have. That one person helped a lot in getting closer to a Living Dex 💚
QOTD: My favorite memory was when I was wonder trading some Pokémon in sun, and this was 2 days before the marshadow codes were released and mid wonder trade some gave me a lvl 100 marshadow before I can get my hands on a code.
For the QOTD I have a story: I went to a daycare and nintendo DS' of all varieties were the thing there, as well as Pokemon games and cards. I was playing Ultra Sun (my first game) when one of my friends recently got a used copy of Sun from Gamestop, which had a heap of a lot of good Pokémon; Ultra Beasts, Island scans, etc. I managed to trade for a level 50+ Squirtle and Bulbasaur, Xurkitree, Buzzwole, Kartana, and Absol. Used most of those on my team, and Xurkitree was my first level 100 'mon. Good times.
The "are you kidding me, John!!??", outbursts when John finds a shiny keeps me coming back to this video.

Right after I'd gotten my Blue version for Christmas in '97, I was flying back for my mother's house in the next state over (I'd visited my dad that year for Christmas). I had the link cable and everything. I met a kid on the plane and he was playing his Pokemon game as well. We traded Pokemon. I was very new to the game at that point, so I traded my Blastoise for a Haunter and it evolved. Even though I grimace slightly at that trade, I still hold it as a fond memory. :) That Gengar became an absolute beast.
I feel these kinds of interactions way back when Pokemon became a thing were what the developers had in mind.

When i was doing my shield nuzlocke, I was starting off fresh, and my bud traded me an en route pokemon as a surprise pokemon. I didn't think anything of it. Till I found out it was a shiny Gibble with the right nature, I am pretty sure it didn't have rough skin. But would had been amazing if it did XD

My favourite trade was when my brother gave me a shiny gyrados in pokemon sun and moon for like... no reason? I loved that gyrados and shiny gyrados still lives in my heart as the best shiny, the reason it's so much more dear to me is that my pokemon sun I got it in was thrown away, I don't know why but that makes me love the shiny even more, maybe because I miss it so much❤

QOTD: When I was a kid I was over at my friend’s house and he was always a stingy jerk with trades, he would try to bleed you dry no matter the Pokémon. He had a Zangoose, I LOVED Zangoose I had never had one before so I started trying to trade with him for it and I was offering stuff I should not have been offering for a Zangoose but he was budging and being a jerk about it. Now here’s where I had had enough, he went upstairs to do something and while he was gone I took his game, took the Pokémon and egg he had in the daycare out, put in a ditto along with his Zangoose and bred myself a nice little Zangoose egg, then I traded it over to my game and put everything back just how he had it and he was none the wiser. I even kept up the charade and kept asking for it while smiling on the inside about my new soon to be hatched Zangoose, best part is that when I did hatch it, it ended up being a girl so I didn’t even need ditto if I wanted to breed it again. So if somehow you’re reading this, thanks for the Zangoose Michael 😈

My favorite trading experience was when I surprise traded a graveler for a shiny treeko name Pickle.
Rewatching the John Michael Cup series and I wish I wasn't such a picky eater. The stuff in the Tokyo Treat box and Sakuraco box looked really good, and the idea of trying stuff from another country is cool and fun, but I know me and my sensory issues would most likely just have a tolerance or an extremely small percentage of items actually in each box (like, one, maybe two items if I'm lucky, three if it's a truly amazing streak of luck), and the majority of it would at best go to my family members who're less cursed in regards to food tolerance, or possibly just go to waste entirely.
My favorite trading memory is probably the time I decided to catch a bunch of ditto in my pokémon violet game and surprise trade them out at hours of the day where I was more likely to trade with people playing a different language. The hope/idea that maybe, just maybe, someone somewhere in another part of the world got super excited when they saw they got a ditto from a different language and realized they could use the Masuda method for any pokémon capable of being bred (and potentially were inspired to pay it forward and trade out some dittos of their own) just made me happy.

was wonder trading in pokémon sun, my very first time playing and first time wonder trading. immediately got a level 100 deoxys.
was doing the masuda method for a shiny axew, and was naming the failed attempts gartholomew as an inside joke with me and a friend, started trading out some of the gartholomews and halfway through the first box i got a shiny level 100 arceus with pokerus.
was trading out more gartholomews a couple days later, got a shiny giratina. the OT’s name was someone’s discord so i added them and we’re friends now 😭😭😭 they helped me complete my pokedex.
i know i'm late to this but i wanted to respond to the QOTD anyway
my favorite trading memory was many years ago, when i was doing a lot of wonder trading in ORAS. i got a lvl 100 shiny malamar from a random trade, and it was cool and all but not my fave, but still shiny! but that's not the warm memory. some time after this, i was doing more wonder trades and crossed by someone with what i believe was a Basque name, with a status saying "seeking shiny malamar". so i hit them up with a trade request, and they accepted, so i immediately dropped that shiny malamar into my end of the trade. we couldn't speak but i could tell how grateful they were because they kept trying to offer me a bunch of other pokemon in return, but i denied all but the one i had to accept for the trade itself, because i really just wanted to gift it, nothing else. no regrets whatsoever, i'm just happy to bring other people some joy where i can :)

I have 2 trading memories, both involve legendary/mythical Pokémon.
1. Treecko -> Lunala
I had ended a shiny hunt for Treecko, with… not the best results. Thus I was trading the ones that didn’t fit the criteria, some surprise, some link trades, this was one of the link trades. I was trading one of the Treecko, I noticed the guy put in a Lunala, I pressed A. And then the white box with communication warnings came up. I’m sure you can guess what happened then.
2. Egg -> Zarude (Dada Form (why??))
You might think I’m lying, but I’m certainly not, this happened more recently, yesterday, to be exact. I was getting rid of my excess eggs, I was doing link trades as you can’t surprise trade eggs, and then the guy I was trading with, he put in a Zarude (for some reason), and the trade went through. I really have no clue why he traded such a Pokémon. And it was also egg No. 2.
