The same here. As a convert, I used to argue with my TLM Grandma. She passed in 2016. A couple of years later, I realized how I MUST veil. A year or so after that, I realized that I MUST only receive Our Lord on my tongue and kneeling. I go to a n.o. Holy Mass, as only 2 Catholic Churches in my entire county. Sometimes I drive 40 miles to a TLM, where there is so much reverence. I'm learning how to follow along in a missal a friend gave me out of the blue. Praise God!

Sadly when I was catechized as a child in the 90s, this wasn't emphasized very much. As an adult I have come to appreciate it. And I thank God for putting people in my life to educate me. Many people were let down in the past 40 years.

We can all bring back reverence and a sense of the presence of God in Church by keeping silent and refrain from talking. Respect for those who are praying. The priest need to lead us in this for many are socializing after Mass. This causes many of the faithful to speak out loud after Mass or and a before Mass. Many Catholics are terrible in their respect for Our Lords presence in the tabernacle. They cause the wounds of Christ to bleed again. We need to stop this abuse.

As kids back in the day on Saturdays we would eagerly wait in line to buy a bag; lucky if we had 7 cents of pieces of hosts from the religious congregation that made hosts for mass. What I remember vividly is how beautiful and detailed the crucifix on the priest's host would be and the lamb embossed on the hosts of the faithful. Many boys would search in their bag of broken hosts to see if they could salvage a priest host that was somewhat intact to play saying mass. When I go for communion and look up and see just a kind of plus sign on the host it truly reminds me of what Fr. Ripperger is saying how ornate the chalices were and this goes also for the hosts and sadly now how things have deteriorated and changed. I truly wish those beautiful things that made the Catholic Church so unique and conducive to worship God would return and continue drawing us closer to HIM.

Lord, help me! I'm falling! I started out in the Catholic faith, having profound reverance in front of the altar while in a church. Somewhere along the line, I began cutting corners and non-shaulauntly changed my body language to haphazardly, genuflecting before the crucifix and tabernacle. Please pray for me to come back to the reverence I once had.

Oh how are we have fallen from reverence. I found that church is the last place to go when I want to pray. Showing up early to prepare for mass is pointless now. There is so much "business," going on its impossible to prepare. There is no knelling after the Lamb of God and no kneeling after communion either, so no time to prepare or make a thanks giving afterwards. I kneel anyways, I am sure I am some sort of a freak to the rest. Its hard to teach others reverence when our priest yaks in church before and after as well. I pray and beg God this will change in my life time.

Good Teton99, on Whitsunday 1999 God delivered me from ever attending the Novus Ordo Missae ever again through the Sacrament of Penance, where I was counseled by Him: "It is a sin to go there!". Your pious intentions are holy and precious to God. Please pray to the Holy Ghost for the grace to forever leave the Novus Ordo; it is an evil spell that keeps souls bound in its horrific and constant sacrilege -- the pain you feel is also felt by God Himself (but obviously much greater and more complete in Him)! One cannot leave the Novus Ordo but by a special grace from God; I know I was in it for 8 years and could not leave for over a year even though I ABSOLUTELY KNEW its evil! I can help anyone leave the Novus Ordo and in God's graces, if they wish to. Please contact me via TH-cam.

Thank you Father. Your advice on mental prayer has caught my attention. Something that I do on a regular basis most particularly when I pray for someone else and for my family and myself.. The mental prayers help us to memorize some key prayers that are very helpful when said silently and for the growth of our spirituality and our protection from the invisible. I absolutely agree Reverence should be observed by the faithful.

    • @gray_mara

Mental prayer isn't prayers said silently. It's still vocal prayer if you are reciting the words of prayers in your mind. We need time to be still and shut up before the Lord so He has a chance to get a word in edgewise.

Fr. Rippinger, You are are contradicting yourself. If we are to be obedient to the magisterium, then we should follow the Novus Ordo. It was given to us by Pope Paul VI.
I cannot even tell you how many subjects you bring up that I disagree with. My uncle was a Ukrainain Catholic Priest who was studied Theology and Philosophy.
I will give you just one example of something you bring up that is very confusing. Mary Magdalene is told by Jesus " do not hold on to me, for I have not yet gone to my Father "
Yet, later in the day, when he appears to the apostles, and to assure them he is real and not a ghost, Jesus tells then to put their fingers in the nail holes in his hands and feet and in his side where he is pierced. So they touch him, in a most intimate manner late in the day. ??
There are many contradictions in your talk that I could mention, but I am tired and not well. You sound very young - I don't believe you lived when the Latin Mass was the norm. Just because the Mass is said a " supposedly " more reverent language, because it " sounds " mote reverent and mysterious, the Latin mass did not begin like that. It was the vernacular of the people at the time ( latin speaking Roman citizens ).
In the Ukrainain Catholic Church ( the Eastern Rite ) the language of the " Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrystostom " has always been in the Ukrainian language, although now mostly in English in North America because the third and fourth generations of the Ukrainian immigrants do not speak Ukrainain. And I am sure that you are aware that married men are allowed to become priests, before and after V2. ( Different canon law )
Many of the subjects you address are simply your own opinion ie, homeschooling, the type of chalice used and all sorts of subjects that have nothing to do with bring a devout Catholic or the Church. You do not need me to tell you that at the Institution of the Holy Eucharist, Jesus gave the apostles his body, under the species of bread, into their hands. And that the language used was Aramaic, the language they all understood and spoke. Enough. I sure you are convinced of your correctness, although as a life long practicing Catholic ( mother and grandmother ) who 64, I would beg to differ.

      @Reyth77 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

I am sure you know this Patrick but despite the new code of Canon Law, it is never permissable to receive the Sacraments from heretics or schismatics; Sacred Tradition always trumps postive material law (Canon Law) because not even the Pope has the right to teach against the full and entire Faith which has been handed down.
Rather than sin, it would be better to stay at home and sanctify the day because going to Mass on Sunday is a precept of the Church, which means the Church is required to provide a licit Mass for you to attend.
Oh and just to clarify for all, SSPX is not schismatic. True schism is departing from the Faith handed down from Christ through the Apostolic succession. It is better to die rather than enter into schism (those that promulgate the Novus Ordo Missae are in material schism with the Chair of Peter); it is better to obey God than men (Acts 5,29 drbo.org/cgi-bin/d?b=drb&bk=51&ch=5&l=29#x)

A priest verbally attacked me many times and shived back at me as I asked of him to allow a life size lady of Fatima into his parish centre, he shoved it back at me and said to me about my reverent behaviour towards Jesus in his church, he said that I was making a show of him and his people and to the Catholic Church, and that he didn't want any of that carry on in his church, he also lost it with me on the grounds when he poked me on my shoulder with his finger in his great anger at me because of my isnsitance in the letter that I wrote to him about why I prefer the Holy Latin Holy Mass up to 1965, he had a right go and while I appreciate that he's had many slight heart attacks and that he's also sick and is always in and out of hospital, he is always so very angry at me and towards me, why do I seem to incite anger in this priest, he is novus ordo. He said to me, I don't want any of that carry on here and also my best friend suggested on a tour bus with this priest on his own bus, as he got onto our bus to check if all were on the bus, my beat friend said, Patricia you give or lead the Rosary, then thus priest said, I am the leader of this bus and I say who leads or givea out the Rosary, and the crazy thing was, soon as he left our bus, I actually then gave out and lead the Holy Rosary, so why would he get annoyed on our bus, not his, in someone wanting to give out the Holy Rosary, why is he so against me, why do I incite this terrible anger in him, also a woman exposes the host in the tabernacle and he slams and bangs in down and also also gives out the host and she does this with a fast quick action and she runs off for a walk each time she slams down hard the host and then she doesn't even spend 5 mins there to adore if this is Jesus due to the manner in which this human action is carried out and by a woman and non consecrated hands, I now stay well away from this priest due to what he might say or worse, what he might do, I would so love to get Holy Fr Rippergers opinion on this.

@LeadingThePack You either believe the Apostles who wrote the New Testament or you don't.
Paul wrote in 1Corinthians "We have received not the Spirit of the world but the Spirit which is from God. And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit."
And in Galatians he said "I did not receive (his gospel) from man nor was I taught it, but it came through a revelation of Jesus Christ."
Don't try to make it seem as if the Roman Catholic Church decided who was inspired or you'd have trouble figuring out where the Old Testament came from to start with.
The Holy Spirit is the divine author of all Scripture It is all God's handiwork. God preserves His word. Psalm 12:7
