Wow.... From the first pluck of the ginormous heavy bass sound was instantly transported back in time to Grand Funk Railroad playing this in 1971.... The bass literally thumps you up against the wall in your bedroom , all the while the stucco is falling off the ceiling onto your long hair rockin' noggin.... Parents banging on the door while yelling out loud " This whole damn house is a rockin' hard n heavy ! lol
Go for it, Mel Jr.! Schacher is one of the greatly unappreciated rock bassists of the era. To think that he carried so much of the music is staggering in retrospect. Nice job.
@@cindysue5474 No. Check the live concert videos. Just a cord going to his bass head. I think he used a Fuzz Box on Into The Sun and that was it. Otherwise just overdriving his tube amp.
Damn, you even nailed Mel's distinctive slides, which, given the lead bass nature of his performances, provided the spice in GFR's music, IMHO.
Truly Awesome Chops my Brother....This is the song that made me start playing bass back in 1971, I think that was the year....Mel Schacher, Is Great Bassist....Love This my Friend...Great Job...
RIGHT on brotherman you fucking naided it note for note.... YOUR A RARE BASS BADASS... LOVE YOUR AWESOME AWARENESS OF MELL THE MAN...your the MAN TOO...👍🎸KEEP IT UP....
canyouhelpmeplease69 that’s for watching! Yeah, Mel’s classic tone is coming from old west amplifiers and some Mods in his jazz bass. I tried to get closer using fuzz and also a tube amp simulator.
Great cover man! Where did you have your vol and tone controls? Mel’s Jazz had what looks like a big Gibson humbucker in the neck position. Cheers brother!
Seriously awesome cover bro, love that tone. I’m going to upload my drum cover for this song soon probably this weekend. Appreciate it if you could check it out and let me know what you think 🤘
It blows me away that this song is almost 50 years old and yet people still listen to it and play it.
FUCKIN A RIGHT ...

Take it from an OG who had every 8-track from Grand Funk. Excellent!
You're in the band...
Couldn't have picked a better one. Mel and his lines definitely filled the space. This is a great cover!

Agree 101% it sucks GFR is not in the rock and roll hall of fame if anyone should be in there its them! Did he not use a fuzzbox at times on the bass?

Keep working on your timing bro. A metronome would help.
