      They not in the HoS because of Terry Knight and how he pissed off Rolling Stone Mag which control the HoS. Those jerk keep Deep Purple out for more then 10 years "Claiming" they were a one hit wonder. What BS over the top. I could not believe it, What was that one hit? Hush (68), All the song released from Machine Head? Or Made in Japan? They just a bunch of tramps that don't know crap about music.

    One of the most underrated bands of the 60's and 70's. They only had a couple of songs make it to the radio for air play when they had dozens of awesome ones. They were considered a "garage band" or "underground". But GFR sold out Shea Stadium in less than 24 hours. Faster than the Beatles. Thank you for reacting.

    • @rhwinner
      @rhwinner 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Best '3 chord garage band' to come out of the 60s. Their music is very easy for a beginner to play....I learned electric guitar playing along to their live albums...

    My older brother was sent to Vietnam for his Sr trip. My brother and I were in charge of his vinyl collection. Grand Funk Railroad there were several. At 9years old I couldn't wait to get home and get chores done Grab your snack. Put on the headphones and play this from the Red Album. On live versions this song can go 12:36. A brother reviewing this exact video Started screaming TARZAN TARZAN ! Critics HATED this band. In the Rolling Stone a critic wrote " the bass is too fuzzy ". They had Platinum Albums.

    I have never seen someone play the bass that hard.

  • @JimSburg69
    @JimSburg69 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You rarely see a lead singer play lead guitar. It's really hard for men more than woman. If you watch Eric Clapton play guitar singing Layla you will notice that when he is singing he is only stroming the guitar. Someone else is playing the difficult part. He will then pick up the difficult part for the solo. With this band there are only 3 so there is no-one else that can play lead guitar while singing. During the harmonica the only guitar was the bass and he worked his ass off. For them to have this much going on it is truly pure talent. Mark Farner is years older than me so when they did this in 1969 I was a senior in HS so they were one of my favorites.

    GFR SHOULD BE IN THE R & R HALL OF FAME!
    🚂 💨 🇺🇸
    Between 1969 and 1972 Grand Funk earned 8 Gold albums in a row without the benefit of a top 20 hit. Since then 3 of those albums have gone Platinum and 2 more have reached Double Platinum. After 72 they went on to have major commercial success with 6 top 20 hits in which 2 of those hits reached number 1!! Many groups have stated they were influenced by Grand Funk.

    Best live performance I've ever seen -- passionate, intense, hard core blues/funk/rock. None of the 3 had yet reached the age of 21 before they did this performance. It's so cool to see them interacting with each other during this performance. You can see they were having fun, and it's sad that the band ended the way it did. But in any case, I KNOW I will die before I ever see a live performance that equals this one.

    While I was across the pond, Vince Lombardi coached the Washington Redskins, Neil Armstrong walked on the moon, there was a little music festival on a farm that became known simply as "Woodstock", and GFR's Mark Farner was doing this. Sorry I missed it.
    Welcome home.

    Kristin pauses at 7:23 because the hot singer/guitarist is too much for her. She is actually the one who needs cooling down.

    I know you don't know about this band but they were the number one band in the world nobody else could top them not even the Beatles until they got screwed over by their manager and that's when everything fell apart what time are a lot of great music in their time and it's a shame that the band on their back together to play for the people again thank you Mike

    Saw them live in the 70s best concert I ever saw. They all had talent but together awesome. They were big in their time, I think now the radio formats want shorter songs so a lot of their songs aren't played as much. I am your captain is listed as in the top 100 rock songs. So few bands now sound as good or better than the album. most have to lip sync live performances, rely on auto tune.

    GFR sold out Shea Stadium faster than the Beatles ! Mark Farner is a beast of a front-man ! 😎🎸 Soak it up youngsters because there is nothing even close to this around today.... the great live bands are all but gone !

    If you like this, do Deep Purple's Sweet Child in Time, the live version. You'll be blown away by his vocals and the band.

    GFRR was a rock band, but this particular performance could easily be classified as funk-rock. This is my favorite performance by them, That BASS sounded SO good, the drummer was a madman and the lead singer (Mark Farner) is my all-time favorite front man. I loved watching the stuff he did onstage while playing guitar -- mostly different dance moves. I have read that Mark Farner played a whole bunch of different instruments. I, personally have seen him on keyboards and, of course guitar and harmonica.

    Kristin....you dear innocent confused beautiful young person.......this is what music used to be......God bless your generation ,you've been duped, swindled, brainwashed from the moment you started to walk and talk ,into believing the ,soulless, musician less, mindless,computerized synthetic drivel is music.........now I love grand funk...but they are just the.tip of the ice berg....the list of amazing. 70's rock n roll bands is endless and it sound like you just got your first shot of music......REAL MUSIC...
    real musicians with depth,heart soul , feel ,chops groove, and emotion ....and you looked like you mistakenly coped.the vibe....do yourself a favor ......go back and research 70's ROCK N ROLL.....as I said the list is endless , so I'm not gonna name a bunch of bands , but the ...ONE.....band that is the leader of the pack is ...remember this name ......LED ZEPPELIN.....the greatest rock n roll band that has ever been.......anything from the movie "the song remains the same"....is a good start....

    Bass player is 18 years old the others hardly more than 21 there just at this point overgrown teenagers. And you have just witnessed the greatest rock performance in the history of the planet and that includes the likes of Aerosmith and Led Zeppelin
