Reminds me of my husqvarna Oh no Dennis might come down under to steal it or make it catch fire or put a trickle pipe through it lol that 1220 is a lovely tractor I bet it can handle some muscle good work Daggerwin
I really appreciate TH-camrs like you who do more than just one subject. I’m pretty well into the Agricultural aspect of life. Big or small jobs, you’re still clocking in a lot of hours and I can relate really well. We have a John Deere 4720 and an array of different brush cutters. It does its job well. I will admit, I’m not much for foreign tractors, but this little guy is putting in a good days work!
@@Farmer_brown134 Just now realized the error I made. I know they’re domestic, must’ve been a slip of the mind when I typed it, because sometimes they do outsource to foreign companies for their machinery.
Hey daggerwin if you really want to get a good flower and grass diversity you should try and remove all the flailed grass. This slowly takes all the nitrogen out of the ground and natural flowers and grasses grow better on nitrogen poor soil. Thereby you get more butterflies and bees. I don't know if the soil is right there but a pond would also help a lot. I hope this comments will help you in creating a more eco-friendly and biodiverse piece of land.
robin landrover I'm not sure about the UK, but in the US there are different environmental groups that will send you free or very cheap wildflower seeds that you can spread wherever you like.
Hi Michael I am also not sure if they do that in the UK because I am from the Netherlands. But I know for a fact that you can create more diversity by removing nutrients from the soil. A packet of wildflower seeds always helps. You also need to look at your soil composition to see if the flowers you were showing will do well on the soil you have. Good tip though I haven't had thought of that.
Honestly,i don't think it has a problem with pulling/carrying that flail/mower,and the horsepower rating is probably at a descent speed, and if you're not in a hurry i don't see why you can't use a lower gear and go slow and steady... Anyways keep up the videos, love them to bits!
I had a little compact tractor like that and I thought it was great but it was worn and I was moving to a bigger property so I sold it and bought a fordson power major and omg the old one wasent a patch on it it's got the weight for implants on the back it pulls till the font is up in the air and it is bloody reliable if you have the space it's a definite improvement even with the age of the fordson
Nice tractor. I have a Izeki TU 1500. It's not in the best shape has no logos or emblems but good paint. It somehow made it into the U.S which is where I am. It's been reliable I've had it for 6 years.
When I clicked on the thumbnail I thought it was a game video so when it first started I thought "DAMB...That's some awesome graphics!!" Then I realized it was a real video.
Whenever I go to slash I use a caterpillar skid steer (or bobcat in Australia )with a hydraulic motor Since a skid steer has no pto. Anyway I find it more effective since skid steers use hydraulics to move. There is high flow so when a slasher is connected. It reaches a high rpm which means I can run along tall grass with ease and fast. But I like your set up a bit different but good
To better put in perspective, I have a MF 35 from 1960. With a 4 cylinder Continental engine. It is rated at 37 HP at the PTO. It weighs more and has more capabilities then this newer diesel tractor. That is how small this little MF 1220 is, that a much older tractor outperforms it in PTO and weight. This is why the numbers matter for the 1220. Because the tractor everyone is thinking it is sized about is the 35 (Because videos don't do justice to showing real dimensions).
I had the 1225 same year. With front loader. Was a good little tractor. My only complaint was I didn't like where the three point controls are in relation to the pto lever
I saw a front-mounted flail on a JD go through stuff like that. It's amazing the difference it makes having it on the front but seems a limited piece of equipment if you don't do a lot of cutting.
Looking at it, even at what I'd suppose is high load condition (you did say that the tractor is underpowered for this) it doesn't even smoke. That means there is plenty more juice to get out of that engine, little fuel pump tinkering and you should get that 25hp. For me it is really weird to see an older tractor not smoke. During summer holidays I helped during harvest and I was driving an old Ursus C360 (can't remember the year, it was I think from 70s-80s) that thing on idle was smoking a littlebit, while just pulling the empty grain trailer that weighs about 1.5-2 tons it was smoking a tiny bit more. But when I got on it on the road with full trailer in 5th gear you could clearly see thick black smoke from the stack. On that particular tractor the injector number 4 was leaking a bit, but those models did smoke a lot even new.
Great job did very well but u might wanna be careful if u aint got enough power cuz ive done that on my compact and i bust the shear bolt several times even after getting replacements
I have an MF 1519 and have been thinking about getting a flail mower. But wasn't too sure if it would handle it or not. I'm guessing the 1220 and 1519 would be very similar!
Hey daggerwin I know you want the land for flowers and wild life but just looking at that video now it don't seem to bad or would need much work to mow it for hay. I know it is a major expenses for what could just be t he love of a hobby (Don't mean to insult if it not a hobby) you could get a mower a hay bob and a small square baler and make hay bales you could sell them and make small bit of money back that way. In my option I think this is what your viewers would like to see. I don't mind what you do it just seems from comments over the past few years that I'm following this type of thing keeps pooping up. Great work keep it up.
@@Daggerwin well it would seem like a nice set up for the tractors you have and could even keep the trees in the field it would be like the grass field in letton farm suited for the smaller scale equipment

The pTO run speed is something which is the lowest power needed for the machine to run at ease so, it can pretty much go into most gears and run the implement as well
I should have shown it in the video but put it into 2nd gear and low range and it hates it, all the other gears it can't even run it in. 2nd Low range makes it pour out excessive smoke
I was mowing before with a small John Deere and every 5-10 min it will show that it is overheating so I am wondering if it didn’t have enough power or because it doesn’t have a fan
(Edit: Sorry that i didnt realize your comment was 4 years ago, and might be a bit surprised at the notification lol) Those are a great way to break a rib when you get thrown forward into the steering wheel after catching the side of an implement on an immovable object (like a tree stump) while moving at a decent speed. I can confirm that the wheel itself is capable of leaving a VERY nice bruise if you jump into it fast enough 😅. Thats actually the reason you've never seen a car, truck, or tractor at a dealership have a pivot ball already attached to the wheel. Not gonna say that I've never USED one of them, but i would never buy/install one on the wheel of anything I own.
Dagger, just a question about the MF - Im thinking of buying one myself but a newer 2018 model, so ( and dont say the exact price) how much would you say it takes to run the tractor totally? That does include insurance and servicing except for me servicing wont be a exact thing cuz I can do it myself.
