You should definitely try their previous series: Penumbra. First two games even though outdated are still very atmospheric. They feel somewhat similar to how amnesia the bunker felt.

Amnesia, penumbra, White Day, Fatal Frame, and a lot more, all those horror games made part of my childhood, and today I love horror games a lot more.
Librarian needs to play White Day some day, it is a pretty cool japanese game, and they sure know how to make good horror games/Stories
Black Plague is honestly not any more outdated than amnesia. The first game yeah, they had more focus on combat and it was quite clunky, but black plague follows a lot of the same style that amensia would eventually adopt.
Also kinda sucks that not NEARLY as many people played them as they did amnesia.
@@cnk-fn3nr agreed. Black plague was so great. But I enjoyed the Overture too, it gave me more desperate and lonely feeling than Black Plague because in the first game you realize you are on a remote frosted continent in a middle of nowhere in some old rusty abandoned mines and there's no one to help you.
There's also a nice fan made game - Penumbra Necrologue where they tried to fix what devs did with Requiem, it still doesn't answer all the questions and even manages to create new ones but it's definitely worth noting as it's simply one of the best fan made products in penumbra/amnesia modding, the amount of work they did is astonishing
@@dood38I will also add that penumbra is more like the first amnesia than anything that ever came after by the developer -- machine for pigs was by a different dev and got rid of any survival aspects, SOMA (and rebirth) was more story driven and bunker was more like resident evil honestly.
To those that liked how the first amnesia was and never played black plague are missing out on the closest thing to it.

Since you recorded this video months ago, I'm sure you've already noticed that there are heaps of amazing custom stories out there. If you haven't already tried it, I would strongly recommend playing the custom story, 'Amnesia - Obscurity'. One of my all-time favourites.

Man, these mods took the TH-cam horror scene like a storm back then, and every single one of these is like a long lost time capsule of what horror was like back then. I can't help but think about how stuff like Amnesia custom stories and Gmod horror maps have had an impact on what horror is like today.
It's definitely comforting to see someone go back an play these and just sort of let me reminiscence my late middle school and high school years of watching horror youtubers and getting excited when they do another custom map from something like Amnesia and Garry's Mod late at night.

Seems as it's relevant again, I'd really love for you to try out SOMA. Another horror game from Frictional and imo their best work by far.

Comment will probably get buried but from the bottom of my heart thank you for doing this traditional horror lets play content. Amnesia is my favorite game of all time and im so so so so happy to see people still discovering the custom stories that i grew up with. Have to admit that I literally laughed out loud (startling my cat, dog *and* spouse) at the sight of the glowing mushrooms because of Infra. I guess that this is how tropes come to exist.
The storyline jank is at least partly due to order of discovery. What you see as timeline jank seems more to me like Daddy Dearest killed Mom but kept it secret until til her body was found, but kept Junior in the dark through servants and whatnot.
Whatever. You had fun playing, we had fun watching, all’s well that ends in a well. Or something.

Librarian there's a really neat custom story called Fleeing Brennenburg,I strongly advise you check it out,its sort of a fan made sequel to the main game of Dark Descent.

Good old Amnesia mods; fun stories and level designs but Better Gamma mod is ESSENTIAL. The darkness is way to punishing on newer pc's and that's before save file bugs happen!

There are so many AWESOME custom stories, that rival some of the best horror games out there in their pacing and narrative structure. It's honestly a shame that Librarian played, what I consider, one of the weakest and outdated ones out there. Even for the time, it was painfully mid. Mad overrated.
He definitely made this one tolerable though, and its nice to just watch this in one go rather than a bunch of 10-15 minute tuber episodes.
Some of my personal favorites were key to freedom, the great work, la caza, and amadeus. These genuinely creeped me out when I played them, relatively recently too, after I played through The Bunker that is.
