    Kirk's recognition of imminent danger in what is an otherwise incomprehensible situation, and his inclination to not give away anything, without saying more than a word, is both excellent characterisation and such talented mastery over the film making process. Puts the modern stuff to shame really...utter competence porn...

      Think about it folks, that agonizor used in this episode of Star Trek in the 60's is now your modern day taser the cops carry when they want to control a disruptive or unruly or uncorporative person who refuses to cooperate with the law. Also note folks the scene when the Captain and the landing party are transported back up to the Enterprise, the Captain beams up not holding his communicator, yet when he does apper on the transporter he is holding his communicator, then when the landing party does appear, on the other ship, Kirk materializes not holding his communicator. Watch it closely. Probably because of the other universe starship when they both were beaming up at exactly the same times.

She coyingly toys with Mirror Universe Sulu before slapping him across the face, saying "I'm afraid I've changed my mind again." Sulu snaps back with "You take a lot of chances, Lieutenant!" Uhura pulls a knife on Sulu, warning Sulu to back off. "So do you, Mister. So do you!" And in the Transporter Room, Uhura also deftly disarms Marlena Moreau, who had a phaser pointed right at Captain Kirk.

    I think the mirror universe is an interesting continuous storyline that they developed over the course of several series. I like that they return to it and build upon it. But I always felt very uneasy whenever watching the mirror universe episodes. There's something so jarring about seeing the characters we come to expect behaving in a certain way then suddenly acting very differently. I always felt such a strong sense of relief whenever they returned from the mirror universe at the end of an episode because I wouldn't want to live in that world, whereas the real Star Trek universe is an ideal version of what humanity could be capable of achieving one day.

      Not, really. Spock in the Federation universe is much more disciplined, more civilized and very much in control of any violent tendencies. The parallel universe Spock not only sported a beard, however was much like his Vulcan ancestors who tolarated no civility, and was cruel, treacherous, uncivilized and much more aggressive as well as undisciplined, and blood thirsty. Notice that when Mr. Sulu was monitoring Spock's computer, the statue of the Roman head in the background over Spock's shoulder, was also seen in the episode, Space Seed, first season, in Lt. McGivers quarters.

    One thing that’s always bugged me was how did they change uniforms when they transported?

    • @TheNoiseySpectator
      @TheNoiseySpectator ปีที่แล้ว

      Very good question, I think I know.
      They were never on an "Evil Enterprise". Nor were their counterparts on the "Good Enterprise".
      Everything we saw in this episode was from the POV of the four of them.
      Someone else could see _they_ were actually acting all wild and insane.
      They _believed_ they were in an Evil parallel universe, because it was Kirk's explanation for what they were all experiencing.
      Have you ever heard of "Transporter Psychosis"?
      Exacerbated that with them probably being exhausted from being up for several hours in difficult negotiations.
      It would not only explain why their uniforms seemed different,but also why the Halkans seemed _the same._
      And, about the Halkans;
      When Kirk threatened to destroy them with the ships phasers, he thought everyone on the bridge was shocked he was giving them a break.
      But,what if they were really shocked that Kirk made such a threat at all?
      It is the kind of thing that "Our" Checkov would deal with by getting a security team and trying to relieve him of Command.
      But, in his delusional state, Kirk believed it was an assassination attempt!
      Think about which of the two explanations is more likely?

    I read that a lot of this episode takes music from "Balance of Terror" with the Romulan bird of prey. Because it's a first-season episode and this is second season, I'm told they had to re-record the music or musical themes due to union rules. It's pretty amazing that they could score half a dozen episodes and use the cues or themes throughout the ~26 episodes of the season.

    • @car103d

      Somehow it was common in the early science fiction, even before the idea of parallel universes, usually it was more of a psychological allegory like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, from the subconscious monsters of the Forbidden Planet to the dark side of the Force in Star Wars . 'Space 1999 Another time another place' was also a good multiverse episode, but in this case it wasn't allegorical of the evil side like in this ST episode, and was much more a conceptualization of the multiverse, as consequences of something gone wrong in space.

    “Mirror mirror on the wall who is the fairest of them all”
    The notable difference between the prime and mirror universes is almost everyone seems to be a psychopath or a sociopath as sociopaths will follow psychopaths but even in the midsts of sociopaths there are some psychopaths just waiting to make a move to become the captain and that’s why the empire was doomed and still is its members are all just ticking time bombs and majority of commanding officers are young and have yet to gain the experience necessary to command but they killed the captain so hey let’s make them captain. Mirror Archer is a good example unlike a majority of mirror captains he’s a sociopath as Hoshi sato’s counterpart was able to manipulate him effectively until she was done with him and killed him. Mirror Burnham is a clear cut Psychopath waiting for a time to strike and kill the Emperor. And let’s face it even when the Empire was destroyed and the Terran enslaved in ds9 what’s to say they might continue where the empire left off after the rebellion conquest and killing and destroying not much of a life and how long until they fall again and this time it’s permanent. Worf in the ds9 is a clear psychopath, Garrek a sociopath he dose everything to get back into Regent Worf’s good graces but fails. So in the end the mirror universe seems to be a world where all humanity darkest impulses are soaring high they are what we can be if we allow hate, bigotry, and all the other problems to flourish in our society without anything being done about them.
