,Hello Vanessa- greetings from Poland That was a brilliant video. The trip along the River Trent was a bit of a nail biter! What terrible weather you had to contend with. Congratulations to Mr. M for his steering skills - good job getting into the Chesterfild Canal. The bird life was incredible on the Trent. Like you, I've never seen so many herons egrets and cormorants all in one place, all at the same time. Thanks so much for taking me along, I wouldn't have missed it for anything. See you next week, Stay safe please
Hi Michael, I hope you are enjoying your summer so far. Thank you so much for your lovely comment and I have congratulated Mr M for his steering which he is chuffed about. Hopefully, on the way back across the tides, conditions will be better and I can getter some better shots of the amazing birdlife there. Have a sunny weekend.🦋🌻🌞
Hi Francis, thank you so much for such a lovely comment. The birds along the tidal Trent were spectacular, hopefully on my return journey, I will be able to get better footage of them. Have a sunny weekend🌻🦋🌞
Well done Vanessa getting through that turmoil. You even managed to get beautiful pics of bugs and things I’ve never heard of. It’s very educational!!! Have great week.
Thank you so much, Sandy! I am so glad that you enjoyed the bugs; I love this time of year having a nosey in the flowers and finding some new insect friends. You have a great week too. 🌻🦋🐝🪲🪰
So many special moments in this... here are a few of my favs: 4:25 "Mum, can't you do something about this weather?"; 10:30 the cormorants running on top of the water to take off; 13:50 who's that cute little girl in pigtails? oh, wait...; 14:00 ff., the stunning wildlife and scenery; and (best for last) 17:08 Zephyr modeling a most excellent way to relax properly after such a soothing trip!
It's just so lovely to hear your special moments of the vlog, Brewster and it really made me smile to read them.😊Thank you so much! Have a sunny weekend.🦋🌻🌞
I was worried for you as you entered Cromwall lock. So pleased it we t well. Your flower garden 🪴 at the front of the boat is gorgeous. Thank you as always for lovely pictures of wildlife…. Amazing in the weather. Another lovely entry in your journal of poetry and illustrations.
What a wonderful vlog. That trip along the tidal river was probably a mix of invigorating and frightening! So nice to see the cormorants "running" across the water. Thanks so much.
Thank you so much, Ruth!😊 I am so pleased that you liked the vlog and those unbelievable cormorants altogether like that. I still can’t get over that now! 🤩 Have a wonderful week 🌻🦋
Ian, the lock keeper was just amazing and told us exactly what to do on the phone; he said that he would guide us through safely and he did just that. It was such an exciting journey, despite the rain, and the booklet was so detailed that I really recommend giving the tidal river a go; just pick a better day to do it on! Thank you for your lovely comment. Have a sunny weekend.🌻🦋🌞
Once more, thank you for such a relaxing episode, even dealing with using the current to aid navigation into a lock. I lived and worked near Chesterfield, but never saw any thing you found. Having time to stop and stare is time well spent. Have I already said, if you ever produce a book of your poems and pictures, let me know.
Well you lived and worked in a beautiful place. 🥰 This canal is so peaceful too. Yesterday, I spotted Early Marsh Orchid and the Bee Orchid here, which because of your handle, I thought you might like to know. Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a wonderful week 🌻🦋
Really enjoy your assured poetic voice here, and the many identifications of birds, insects and their stages, the river and its tides. Such a beautiful construction, the pumping stations.
Thank u both for a amazing vlog l felt for u on the tidal water with the rain pelting down but u did it like pro's , so much for u to take in with wrecks and islands and u even tried to get the wild life in as well as beautiful buildings. But what a difference when on calmer water and with the sun out every thing comes back to life, The daisy looks lovely now on Alice Grace u'ver done a great job much better than the monkey 🐒 , Hope u both and Zephyr have a relaxing weekend xx👋 take care
Hi Simon, I am so pleased that you enjoyed the vlog and thank you so much for your kind comments. The contrast between the River Idle and the Tidal Trent is unbelievable and they actually join each other! Anyway, I hope you have a lovely weekend, walking your dogs in the sunshine. Take care🦋🌻🌞
Hi Steve, I was relieved to find such a quiet spot, but I'd do the tidal River Trent again in a heartbeat which is just as well as we have to go back that way. Let's just hope for better weather this time! Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a sunny weekend.🦋🌻🌞
Thank you for taking us through the tidal River with all its scary moments, I was so pleased when you were back in calmer waters, lovely shots of nature and moths, insects and hares. Another great video.
Hi Christine, I am relieved to be on calmer waters too, although I did love the bird life on the tidal river. Thank you so much for your lovely comment and I am so glad that you enjoyed the nature shots. Have a sunny weekend.🌻🦋🌞
Hi Jean-Louis, when we do the trip back across the tidal river, hopefully the sun will shine! Thank you so much for watching and for commenting. Have a sunny weekend.🦋🌻🌞
I am so pleased that you enjoyed the vlog; even though I was absolutely petrified that we were going to end up hitting something, it was a fantastic adventure and I thoroughly recommend the tidal Trent. Thank you for your lovely comment. Have a sunny weekend.🌻🦋🌞
Thanks for taking us on a beautiful cruise through wonderful countryside and river, the young hatchling fish you showed explained why there were so many fish eating birds about. Take care and all the best. Stevie
Hi Stevie, I'm so pleased that you enjoyed the cruise. There are hundreds of fish here and some whoppers too! Thank you so much for watching and commenting. Have a sunny weekend.🦋🌻🌞
You are so welcome, Ross and I am so pleased that you enjoy watching them. Thank you so much for telling me; it means a lot to hear it. Have a sunny weekend.🌻🦋🌞
What an adventure! Tidal river full of hidden dangers; the weather totally against you; the unexpected joys of cormorants, castles and a sunken island named after your dad! Have you ever listened to the song named after him? Popular in my teenage schooldays, "Norman" was sung by Sue Thompson. Check it out and giggle!!! 💯% for Mr M at that against-the-tide lock! Loved the poem at the end Vanessa. Take care x
Oh Jill, I have just listened to that song!😄🎶 brilliant! And what a giggle I’ve just had too!😂🤩I’ve sent it to my Dad; he’ll love that. Thank you so much for your lovely comment and I hope you have some wonderful cruising planned for the summer. Have a sunny rest of the weekend and week ahead 🌻🦋🌞
@@themindfulnarrowboat I thought it would make you giggle! 🤗 A posh Rugby Summer Ball at the end of this month 💃 and then some much needed cruising along the River Great Ouse - and hopefully beyond. xx
I'm sure you will enjoy the Chesterfield Canal, parts of it are like travelling through a Constable painting (or at least I like to think so) its also a SSSI between Misterton and Retford . Another lovely film and so relaxing.
Hi Sheila, yes I was glad when the calm came too and hopefully now that we are back on a canal, there will be lots more peaceful moments. Thank you for your lovely comment. Have a sunny weekend.🌻🦋
Wow!!!! I can’t get over all the cormorants… and the herons and egrets - just spectacular! I painted an egret this week which was spooky!! I think water birds will always be my favourite ❤️
Hi Ruth, I shall have to go to your Instagram page and watch that! I love watching your videos as they are such a relaxing view. Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a sunny weekend.🌻🦋
@@themindfulnarrowboat ah that’s so kind - thank you! I totally feel the same about yours. I love it when there’s a new video to watch - I’m so impressed with your knowledge about creatures and plants and the videos boating along the water are just wonderful ❤️🌈
Another beautiful vlog, you certainly make the world a more peaceful place, your filming of the wildlife is wonderful. I'm in Norfolk & we have rare visitor's at the moment, seven Bee- eaters, the markings are amazing. I'm definitely hooked on your channel Vanessa.
Oh my goodness, Bee-eaters! That is amazing. What incredible birds to be able to see. You'll have to get some pictures. Thank you for your lovely comment and I am so pleased that you enjoyed the vlog. Take care🌻🦋
Gosh how the peace of the Idle must have been so tranquil after being on the tidal mayhem. Umbrellas can be great weather vanes but they have their quirks in some situations. Take care as always and thank you =-)
Hi Lorraine, ah the Idle is my kind of river! Although the tidal Trent was so exhilarating, I do like calm waters. As for umbrellas, I'm no Mary Poppins that's for sure and will not be trying to film in the rain, in the wind again!🤭⛱ Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment. Have a sunny weekend.🦋🌻🌞
Wow what a journey that was, my son has done that journey and it was raining for him too. I’d be scared of my engine cutting out. You saw some amazing birds on the way, such big numbers too I’ve never seen so many cormorants together! Lovely buildings and scenery too and those lambs on the edge, my heart would have been in my mouth. Lovely poetry and journaling as always. I think you’ll love the Chesterfield but might find it a little lonely there. Your “garden” is looking amazing. Thank you for another lovely vlog. X
Hi Shirley, do you know that I didn't think about the engine cutting out, but we have to carry an anchor on the river, so I suppose we'd throw in the anchor and wait for help! 😱 How funny that your son did that journey in the rain too; I hope it was smooth cruising for him. Thank you so much for your lovely comment and I am so glad that you enjoyed the vlog. Have a sunny weekend.🦋🌻🌞
Wow and I thought you hated rivers.Have you finally overcome your fears? What a trip. You have clearly changed your proposed itinerary.I have missed the last 2 vlogs as I am finally out on the boat and internet and phone reception around Crick is awful.Currently at Norton junction and have finally found you at 6am! Got to be your longest video yet and over 4k subscribers and 1.5 views of this video.Fantastic ,people are finally realising the quality and beauty of your channel. Shame I didn't bump into you at Crick and I was there for all 3 days but not on IWA stand on Friday. The shots of the hare were brilliant.Enjoy the Chesterfield, I'm told it's lovely. Now I must watch the previous 2 videos while I've still got a connection.
Hi Chris, I’m so glad that you are ok and well! I can’t believe you were at Crick and I didn’t see you; it would have been lovely to have a chat and catch up. Thank you so much for your kind words about the channel; it is so lovely to watch it grow. I am very lucky to have such wonderful subscribers too. It must be super to be out cruising again although sad to leave the otters behind. We changed our route due to family arrangements and this part of the waterways is just beautiful! Anyway safe and sunny cruising, Chris 🌻🦋🌞
Hi Vanessa, thank you for your lovely comment. I can't believe the price of the hybrid engines either! Fingers crossed that they come down in price. Have a sunny weekend and week ahead.🦋🌻
Thank you so much, John. I loved Kate and Ada too, what a beautiful pair they made surrounded by the wildflowers and little, flying creatures. Have sunny weekend. Take care🌻🦋🌞
Another lovely video. I love the beautiful flowers on the bough of the boat. I’m taking my time visiting your videos. I plan to watch all of them. Thank you.
You were well and truly weathered with this trip……this one I started in order to calm down ready for sleep! It must have been really exciting on the edge of danger and a shocking change to all the duckweed on the last blog I watched. I am falling in love with herons, such a sculptural bird. Another great vlog……you are top notch indeed.
Oh no, I should have put a warning on this video: 'not to watch of you want to get off to sleep'. I hope you slept ok afterwards! Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Take care🦋🌻
Wow another brilliant.totally superb vlog.I was truly transfixed throughout.the most incredible.very interesting video.to me this was a wonderful privilege to be able to follow your astonishing wildlife journey on the canal and tidel river with great enthusiasm.I can tell your so very entrenched in this subject.your an amazing naturalist.it’s certainly your vocation.I do like watching you meandering through the most beautiful meadows.in search for more of wildlife’s inhabitants.I’m curious to know.is your narrowboat a traditional stern .semi trad stern.or a cruiser stern.in your own opinion.which one of these sterns are most favourable for continuously cruising.also no you think a cratch cover.I know you have one.would it severely impede one’s view of the canal while cruising.subsequently would it be advantageous to have one fitted .back and front.for inclement weather.what is the most staircases locks that you have encountered while on a day’s cruising.we’re they all very time consuming and difficult.or just simplicity to operate these locks.which was the longest tunnel that you have navigated through .since continuously cruising.was the tunnel a very scary experience.at the time.the tidal river.what an expanse of dangerous water.such a terrifying sail through strong currents.but you certainly achieved your goal.what a brilliant manoeuvre to get into that seriously difficult lock.I enjoyed watching the birds of a feather that were flocking together.also the lovely birds on the far river bank.the majestic cormorant’s egrets and the supreme heron’s the narrowboat show looked quite interesting .the new electric narrowboat engine.was awesome.I like your absolutely amazing crystal clear poetry reciting .it was so unbelievably enchanting.you certainly are a natural poet.I was truly impressed by your brilliant wildlife drawing.it was a very superb free hand drawn gem of artistic perfection.just a stunning creative masterpiece.have a wonderful Sunday and week ahead.
Wow, Anthony another wonderful comment and such a delight to read. Yesterday I spotted a cottage with roses but it wasn’t thatched, however I still filmed for you, still looking for that and a church with steeples for you. I have a cruiser stern which we wanted for easy access to the engine and space for a social gathering whilst cruising. That was the first time that we had kept the pram hood up when cruising and with one of us wiping it down it was an absolute gem in that weather. I don’t think I’ll get one at the front though as I really like my garden. Have a sunny rest of the weekend and week ahead 🌻🦋🌞 Thank you 😊
The river of cormorants was just breathtaking to behold. I am always looking things up, reading and asking experts on Twitter about new wildlife that I find. Take care🦋🌻
Hi Lisa! The sound of rain is wonderful isn’t it? Also going for an invigorating walk in it and then returning home to a nice cup of tea and a piece of cake! 🫖 🍰 Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Take care 🦋🌻
Thank you so much, Nigel for your lovely comment. I'm pleased I didn't do a Mary Poppins as well as I just don't have her graceful flying ability! 😁⛱ Have a fabulous week too.🦋🌻
Wow. What a journey that was!!!! And the awful weather. How many miles did you do in the tidal section? The turn into the lock and the peace and tranquillity after is a well earned treat…. And…… relax!! 🙏🙏💕
Hi Caz, thank you so much for your lovely comment. The journey from Cromwell Lock to West Stockwith Lock took us from 8am until 4:08pm because we had to wait for the high tide at Torksey and it is 31 miles in total. I thoroughly recommend it, but just pick a nicer day to to it on! 🌞Have a super week🦋🌻
@@themindfulnarrowboat 31 miles……… and in that awful weather!!!!! Wow…. You were brave…. And there’s me thinking the short hop from Salters Lode to Denver sluice was bad enough!!!! Stay safe!🙏💕
Hi vannessa what contrasts in the weather in malta its burning hot and in uk rainy still prefere the english weather exxellent video again thanks and take care
I hope the heat is not unbearable in Malta at the moment. I love the sun, but when it's too hot, it's worrying. I have been wishing other viewers a sunny weekend but I will wish you a gentle breeze and some cool air. Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a fresh and flowery weekend.💨💧🌻🦋
It certainly was a challenge keeping hold of my phone whilst hanging outside the boat in the lashing rain, but it was soooo exciting too!😱 Thank you for the Brownie points!👍🤩 Hope you are staying cool. Take care🌻🦋
The Chesterfield's a lovely canal. Hope you got through deep lock ok. I got stuck in that one. I've heard other boats have as well. It's stunning and very quite. Wonderful vlog..Thankyou.
Thank you so much Will! I am loving this quiet canal. I’ve been watching your vlogs on the tele( ooh get me being all posh) so I haven’t commented but I see you’re not that far away from here. Where are you heading next? Can’t believe the way you were treated by the lady at that lock! Here’s your missing thumbs up👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 Stay cool Mr NB Will!🌻🦋
@@themindfulnarrowboat I'm at Selby lock heading to Goole then Lincoln. How long are you staying on the Chesterfield. Is it weedy? I loved the open fields and crystal clear water. I think I could pop into the basin over night. I need to check if I'm passing. Ark at you with your smart TV. Can't leave comments with those. You can but it's remote typing and that's hard going. Ha ha have a calm and restful evening Mrs Mindful.
I didn't know that I could use remote typing! 🤭 Well, after the Chesterfield, we are heading to Lincoln too. I think, I better clean my boat as I know what you're like with your "Through the Keyhole" boat tours. The weed here is a bit of a theme in this week's vlog, some boats are turning back because they can't get through it. I will get liking and commenting now! Take care🌻🦋
@@themindfulnarrowboat Don't turn back. I had the same on the Pocklington canal they said "turn back"I said no I'm going on. What an idiot. Vlog coming. Ha ha See you in Lincoln then. Omg I better iron everything including my socks I've got royalty coming. Pffft ha
10/10 to Mr M for getting in that lock, and 8/10 for your Umbrella control LOL thought you were trying to rig a sail up for a minute to save buying a new engine, cannot believe the cost of the hybrid engines, love your wildlife shots do you know the name of all these creatures or do you research them?
Thank you so much for your lovely comment and Mr M is very proud of his 10/10. I think you were very generous with my umbrella score, unless there is supposed to be a minus sign in front of the 8😂 I am hoping the cost of swapping engines will come down🤞 Before I lived on my boat, I really didn’t know much about nature but since living with the outdoors as my garden ,which you will know all about, I have learnt so much more and what I don’t know,I look up. Have a sunny weekend 🌻🦋🌞
Thank you so much Paul for your lovely comment! Yep those tidal rivers are a white knuckle ride in a tube of steel. 😱😰 Hope you are staying cool. Take care 🌻🦋

My daughter and son in law will be there for their vacation in May.I told them i was so jealous! I had no idea about the canals. They're just fascinating. I love history, nature, wildlife, castles, yes, all the things! I love watching while I stitch. I also have a youtube channel about cross stitch. I talk about and show my projects. If you get bored you can check me out at the nightly stitcher. Have a wonderful weekend! Give Zephyr and pat on the head for me.

It must be super to be out cruising again although sad to leave the otters behind. We changed our route due to family arrangements and this part of the waterways is just beautiful! Anyway safe and sunny cruising, Chris 🌻🦋🌞
As always so interesting and peaceful.
Amazing how expensive electric engines are. Who can honestly afford that?
Hi Vanessa, thank you for your lovely comment. I can't believe the price of the hybrid engines either! Fingers crossed that they come down in price. Have a sunny weekend and week ahead.🦋🌻
A beautiful video from a beautiful soul.
Thank you, Michael for such a lovely comment. Hope you have a sunny weekend 🌻🦋🌞
Beautiful nature vlog. I loved Kate and Ada the steam pump houses.
Thank you.
Glenna, ohh, I love your plan to watch more of the videos! Thank you so much and thank you for your lovely comment. Take care🦋🌻👍
Take care🦋🌻
Exciting stuff handled well.
Thank you so much, Mike! Have a sunny rest of the weekend and week ahead.🌻🦋🌞
Wow another brilliant.totally superb vlog.I was truly transfixed throughout.the most incredible.very interesting video.to me this was a wonderful privilege to be able to follow your astonishing wildlife journey on the canal and tidel river with great enthusiasm.I can tell your so very entrenched in this subject.your an amazing naturalist.it’s certainly your vocation.I do like watching you meandering through the most beautiful meadows.in search for more of wildlife’s inhabitants.I’m curious to know.is your narrowboat a traditional stern .semi trad stern.or a cruiser stern.in your own opinion.which one of these sterns are most favourable for continuously cruising.also no you think a cratch cover.I know you have one.would it severely impede one’s view of the canal while cruising.subsequently would it be advantageous to have one fitted .back and front.for inclement weather.what is the most staircases locks that you have encountered while on a day’s cruising.we’re they all very time consuming and difficult.or just simplicity to operate these locks.which was the longest tunnel that you have navigated through .since continuously cruising.was the tunnel a
very scary experience.at the time.the tidal river.what an expanse of dangerous water.such a terrifying sail through strong currents.but you certainly achieved your goal.what a brilliant manoeuvre to get into that seriously difficult lock.I enjoyed watching the birds of a feather that were flocking together.also the lovely birds on the far river bank.the majestic cormorant’s egrets and the supreme heron’s the narrowboat show looked quite interesting .the new electric narrowboat engine.was awesome.I like your absolutely amazing crystal clear poetry reciting .it was so unbelievably enchanting.you certainly are a natural poet.I was truly impressed by your brilliant wildlife drawing.it was a very superb free hand drawn gem of artistic perfection.just a stunning creative masterpiece.have a wonderful Sunday and week ahead.
Have a sunny rest of the weekend and week ahead 🌻🦋🌞 Thank you 😊
Cormorants are amazing. How do you find out about all the wildlife? Amazing.Your veggies look wonderful. Thanks so much
The river of cormorants was just breathtaking to behold. I am always looking things up, reading and asking experts on Twitter about new wildlife that I find. Take care🦋🌻
Always glad to see what you have to see.
Well I am always delighted to share it. Thank you so much for watching. Take care🦋🌻
I love your vlogs that include the English rain (I am a pluviophile)!
Hi Lisa! The sound of rain is wonderful isn’t it? Also going for an invigorating walk in it and then returning home to a nice cup of tea and a piece of cake! 🫖 🍰 Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Take care 🦋🌻
Lovely video Vanessa. Well done conquering the Trent. Pleased you didn’t do a Mary Poppins!! Have a fabulous week 👍
Thank you so much, Nigel for your lovely comment. I'm pleased I didn't do a Mary Poppins as well as I just don't have her graceful flying ability! 😁⛱ Have a fabulous week too.🦋🌻
@@themindfulnarrowboat Oh, I’m sure you have!! Take care xx
Fantastic as always. Thank you ❤
Thank you so much!🤗 🌻🦋
Xtra Brownie-Points for Fighting! the Wind & The Rain to try and get those Camera Shots 😄
You are as lovely as Shawn and Colin.
😊 Thank you, Simon. Have a wonderful week 🌻🦋
Great vlog. You have to be careful on the tidal rivers
Thank you so much Paul for your lovely comment! Yep those tidal rivers are a white knuckle ride in a tube of steel. 😱😰 Hope you are staying cool. Take care 🌻🦋
Love your dog!
She woofs “thank you, Andrea!”🐶🐾🐾🦋🌻
😂😂Typical umbrella moment 😂
☔️☔️🙀 I know! I did laugh when I watched it back though.😂🤭 Have a sunny weekend🌻🦋
Goodness, you are just so gorgeous! (I mean that platonically and nicely!)
Thank you for your nice and platonic comment. It is very kind of you. Have a great day! Take care🦋🌻
Hi Vanessa, I just wanted to tell you just how much I'm enjoying your channel. I watch several of your videos every day. The UK is just beautiful and I wish I was there to see it in person!
I will definitely check out your cross stitch channel- how wonderful!Thank you for your lovely comment. Have a super weekend. Take care🌻🦋
😀
was that all you had for dinner nice .but as my mom would say mashed potato and peas iv'e eaten all my life.because the mashed potatos stop the peas from falling off my knife. as kids we lived by a farm that grew them
I love that little rhyme! My strawberries were just a tiny snack to have with my journaling. I only had five ripe ones!🍓 Thank you for your lovely comment. Have a sunny weekend.🦋🌻🌞
Lovely country but it seems to be always raining and/or overcast. Explains the lovely skin of British women all that moist air.
It is pretty much always overcast and raining at the moment! 🤭 Thank you for your lovely comment. Take care🌻🦋
Is your whole boating vlog all on line?
Hi Simon, most of it is but the earliest vlogs are so bad that I just made them private. The content and editing was atrocious 😳 but slowly, I have improved enough to make the rest public. Thank you for watching them👍🌻🦋
