Which is one reason my brother recommended your Channel to me knowing my love of nature, beautiful music, animals, etc., he thought would aid in my recovery. I am doing exceedingly well. Your vlog is massively uplifting and takes my mind off the shock over having suffered a stroke. Each day you remind us of the beauty of life as long as one fine tunes one’s senses to everything around us, save the negative things impacting our world. Hi Vanessa, yet again, need to comment: your Vlogs make me hope that I will, one day, win the Lottery, and have a completely wheelchair friendly cruiser built for me... with a "Davit" to get me on and off. It would have to be based on the Northern Broads (The Southern Alternative are far too Industrialised for me).
Obviously, canals are out of the question for me... Locks... errrr no..

Great vlog, you have that wonderful way of capturing nature at its best.Beautiful scenery. At one stage the flock of linnets looked like tumbling autumn leaves, until they started landing on the telegraph line.
And all those ducks sitting on rowing boats waiting for customers or their captain.😄💚

Your zucchini currie looks a thousand times better than mine. I was also gifted some overgrown "marrow" as you call it! I added sweet bread to my list of things I made from it, froze the loaves, and then gave them away as the season ended. I live in Vermont, USA, where our fall colors are spectacular, but we do not have canals upon which to enjoy them as you do.

That was a very interesting video. Have you tried stuffed marrow? Cut the marrow down the middle lengthwise and then into pieces about 4 to 5 inches long. After scooping out the middle (keep to use later), part boil the pieces. Made a stuffing mix using ground almonds or hazelnuts mixed with fried onion and garlic with herbs to taste, You could also make a mixture using rice or use up any stale bread you have - in fact the possibilities are endless! Chop the scooped-out middle of the marrow and mix it with the stuffing and pile everything into the marrow pieces and bake.

Wonderful vlog! I'm getting hooked. Unfortunately, being in the U.S., we don't have any canals hardly at all - they've all been replaced with highways and railroads. However, I live quite near the Ohio River, just upstream of Cincinnati Ohio but on the Kentucky side, and it's always been my dream to cruise the river.
Anyway, regarding that squash that you call a "Marrow". It looks like what we call a Zucchini. Just as you do, we fry it sometimes and find it really good if breaded and deep fried. But most often we make Zucchini bread. We had a pretty good yield in our garden this past summer and made enough Zucchini bread that we store what didn't get eaten right away in our freezer. Just this week we found what was probably the last loaf down in the depths of the freezer, and are whittling it down right now. It's especially good with cream cheese!

During the summer we had a very successful courgette season. Some inevitably grew very large and became marrows. We sliced them into rounds fried them on the plancha until they were soft and lightly caramalised then served them covered in pasta sauce (onions fried in olive with a bit of garlic and tomatoes from the same potagere). Very tasty.

When I am looking for music to go with my nature pieces, I always start with searching through the cello music that I have. What a delightful vlog full of beautiful scenery blue skies and educational, after 2days awful weather I'm missing the sun already 🤣 u are right what lovely bridges u came across especially the red one with gold crested things on it. The food u cooked on the stove looked gorgeous l must confess it did make me feel hungry 😄👌, do u find that the fire causes it to bubble madly and u have to keep stiring it as to prevent it sticking, if so l have found that putting the pot on2 a cast iron trivet on the stove helps. At the moment, my fire isn't hot enough for the sticking to happen, but now I will buy a cast iron trivet if that starts happen. Do you do a lot of cooking on your stove? @@themindfulnarrowboat during the colder months l cook regular on it ranging from a small roast dinner to curry and rice, and a little pot of water for my hot drinks l would be lost with out it as it helps keep energy costs down .

@@themindfulnarrowboat chops or small pork or beef joint usually on a cold day when fire is on all day to slow cook the meat 🥩 , stews are nice as well.

as ever cool video i have been working my way through the playlists the great crested Grebs sequence was amazing and the seal episode was very good what speed do you cruise at your videos look faster than nost narrowboaters on you tube not a complaint just an observation ,your Journal is wonderfull keep up the content its so relaxing ,

When we are on the river, we are moving between 4 and 6mph- if it is an empty stretch, but on the canals we move at a chug. Vanessa, You are right brain dominant artist. That is who you are. Cooking requires a little more use of use of the boring left side of your brain. Don't fret so much about exactly following a recipe, just keep in mind that cooking is science based. There is nothing like experience. First times mostly leave room for improvement. That is why there are time tested recipes designed for right brain dominated people.

Hi i wanted to add to what i think has already been said, have you published a guide to canal boat travels, im sure a lot of newbies and many old hands would like to have a copy of a guide to the canals you travel, where to stop/shop/eat out etc and what facilities are available, you have been all over and have your journals to refer to, the vlogs are great but if im riding a boat i wanna quick reference guide 😊 and could you show how Zephyr gets on and off the boat, im wondering if my old boy can make it on and off without hassle
Thank you so much for your lovely comment. I will show you how Zephyr gets on and off the boat by filming her doing it this week at some point. Sometimes, we have to moor and use a gangplank; she needed to be encouraged to use this and so I stood on the bank and held a treat out at the end of the gangplank. Being a Labrador, she was suddenly very motivated to move onto the land!😁 In terms of producing a guide book, this sounds like a wonderful idea, but I don't think I can do any better than the Pearson's and Collin's guides which are already out there and an excellent resource. Another beautiful trip. I watched this one two or three times. I have to say I never thought of you getting depressed by the news as well then I started thinking how you are so much closer to what is going on in Ukraine then I am. Also that this country has never had a bomb drop on our land during a war where as England has experience first hand. I hope and pray that never happens again. There was one seen on your video that took my breath away it was the one with the weeping willow was a ways in front of the boat it was so peaceful to look at. Thanks again and more happy voyages to you. O forgot to ask what were the birds you have never seen before? Was one the Sparrow Hawk? Steve
Hi Steve, thank you so much for your lovely comment. The weeping willows are stunning as they hang over the canal and I find them beautiful to look at too. The birds that I hadn't seen before were the linnets and I completely forgot to say in the video,🙈, but I wrote it in my journal. What is special about that sighting is linnets are not often seen much anymore due to habitat loss, so I think the cover crops that the farmer was using are encouraging them to visit. I'm sure you know this, but...better safe than sorry? ...Goosefoot (Quinoa) is, as you said...edible, seeds, leaves...but some species of the plant are toxic. I wasn't familiar with this plant, so I looked it up, and that's why I'm telling you. 🙂 Seems as though when used as cover crops, they should be ok though🤔

Whats wrong with your bow thrusters / Are you going to get them fixed.
Hi Francis, it's the charger on the bow thrusters which needs replacing, but actually, I like the boat without them, but then again, I avoid driving in the tight turns like marinas and leave that to Mr M as he is expert.
