Back in December of 2018 I put in a M2M order through The Music Zoo for a Les Paul Special (Contoured mahogany body, flame maple top, cherry finish, ebony fretboard, no neck binding). After about a year and a half I canceled the order because I felt like it was taking too long to build such a simple guitar. Looking back, I should have just waited for it. It definitely would have been a good one.
Hurts you call that simple, if you ever get the chance you should try again. It would be worth the wait! Sounds like a dream guitar that deserves the time to come out right.
@@J.C... well he could mean contour as in like a body contour where you rest your arm and not an arch top. I mean I get a maple top also ruins the special vibe, but I’d dig it. My dream M2M sounds unfeasible but I want it to work: firebird V with an extra thick body/neck thru center, so that it can have a flame maple cap that is arched. Make the flame maple wings a dirty lemon burst and the center/back mahogany red aniline dye stain, creme firebird pickguard and plastics. Everything else normal firebird specs: mini hums, banjo tuners, historic neck profile.
@@zaccarter3801 I only called it "simple" because the specs are actually pretty tame when you consider that the Custom Shop still uses modern CNC machines for a majority of the work. I also should have mentioned that I had listed no body binding in addition to no neck binding. We all know binding is scraped by hand, even in the USA shop, so that's another human element that wouldn't be going into the guitar. I had ordered a M2M SG the prior year, and it took 3 months. At the 12 month mark I reached out to the dealer about the status on the Les Paul order. She contacted the Custom Shop and more time was needed for the build. After another 6 months I reached out to the dealer and again, she reached out to the Custom Shop. Again, more time was needed. At this point I became a little paranoid that maybe the order had been "forgotten" or lost, whether it be on the dealers end or the Custom Shop. Either way, I was reading through forums and talking to other M2M customers and none of them had experienced that long of a wait time, adding to my fear that something had in fact gone wrong with the order. Like I said in the OP, I should have just waited it out until the end but worry and impatience got the best of me. Full specs of the build: Body: Mahogany w/ contoured back and natural walnut finish Top: Flame maple top w/ cherry finish (no body binding) Neck: Mahogany w/ natural walnut finish Fretboard: Ebony w/ MOP dot inlays (No binding) Bridge Humbucker: 57 Classic Plus / Cream Pickup ring Neck Humbucker: 57 Classic / Creme Pickup ring Tuners: Schaller M6 Nickel hardware Truss rod to say "Special" 2 Vol/2tone w/ toggle (Amber knobs / Creme Toggle wash/Amber switch tip)
@@9dewittk okay yeah that turnaround time is absurd. But those specs sound amazing. I hope your experience is extremely isolated as I dream of placing a M2M, but 12+ months is getting out of hand for the price.
Gibson is the pinnacle of American guitar manufacturing. The guitars you guys make are truly works of art. All of my favorite guitars are Gibsons; I'm a fanboy through-and-through. Sooner or later I'll order a LP Custom in that wild Green Tea Burst with my favorite spec's. Please make some more videos like this!
Gibson, I will PAY you a subscription fee to have a weekly tour of what is going through the finishing room just to see all the wild stuff that is being made.
They're never going to show inside the Murphy Lab, but it'd be awesome just to see some of the guitars that go through their final checks/QA on a regular basis in the custom department. These guitars are just too cool _not_ to be seen.
@@gibson I sure will! I had no idea Green Tea Burst - or custom colors - were something you did. I know they're expensive and special order only, but that's not gonna stop me. Show us some more!
Did anyone else hold their breath while he was juggling two insanely expensive M2M Les Pauls just inches from each other?
😅
Definitely need to make this a regular on-going series.
Stay tuned!

Have you made the custom ‘paint on paint’ guitar yet? Would love to see how it compares to the 2017 painted over series.

I’ve been waiting 22 months for my M2M 1959 ES 355! One day I’ll have my dream guitar but that day can’t come soon enough.
Oh what did you get?!
Has to be a painful wait but jealous you have that amazing toy to look forward to!!!!
Your comment made me think about all the MTM guitars sitting there waiting... On what?
