Shiva Linga Abhishek

The Abhishek is one of the most important Hindu customs. And while performing the Abhishek, devotees over water, milk and other natural ingredients to the deity. The Abhishek of Lord Shiva or the Shiva Linga is referred to as Rudrabhishek or Rudrabhishekam. A Shiva devotee performs this ritual on Mondays (Somwar - a day dedicated to Lord Shiva) or on days of great significance like Shravan Somwars, Maha Shivratri, Masik Shivratri or Pradosh Vrat. To perform the Abhishekam at home, you would need a Shiva Linga made of Pancha Dhatu or Ashta Dhatu or Brass.
Respectfully place the Shiva Linga on a brass or copper plate on the altar in your house. You may also place the idol of Nandi in front of the Linga. It is also essential to offer your salutations to Nandi, the vehicle or vahana of Lord Shiva.
Light an oil lamp.
Chant Om Namah Shivaya or the 108 names of Lord Shiva while performing the abhishekam.
