Getchur fingerstyle practice in! I'm still shit at finger picking and usually just give up and play with a pick~ Still sounds good but doesn't have that Garcia flare, that's for sure.
These dead tutorials are my favorite. I liked you as a teacher before I knew you liked the dead, then when I found out you are a dead head I've been a big fan. Been watching since the last channel
@John Waller very few people I've talked to, even other gutair players, ever cite Garcia as "one of the greats." He kinda flies under the radar a bit for anyone who's not dead head. Even more so Bob Weir.
You rock Marty. One of my favorite songs since I was 15. Purchased “without a net” and heard Althea for the first time and fell in love this haunting piece of art.
Hhey Marty from st. Joe missouri. I just wanted to thank you for ALL YOUR GUITAR VIDEOS some of us old poops still love our guitars but don't have the chops to play as well as we'd like or should after 50 yrs of playing. I love GRATEFUL DEAD TUNES....ALRHEA IS ONE OF MY FAVE TUNES OF ALL TIME...TAKE IT EASY. HAVE A GRATEFUL DAY
Adding comment. This is a great song (always liked and respected it, but never knew how much it could teach me) and a great chord/picking lesson. Move that starting E riff up to the 7th fret on the A string at times and have an embellishment journey. So good, thanks Marty.
Thank you Marty. I found myself playing this before watching the full video. All down to the hours I've spent watching your videos. Thankyou for your time and dedication
Awesome! Like other tunes, I think that I've been playing this one for years - but you always bring in new details to the mix. Thanks again! And here's my yearly, shameless plug for a Jack Straw lesson. Take care out there.
So glad as a amateur guitarist we live in a time tabs and videos to play my favorite songs are easily availabke . Like Althea which is easily one of my fav songs ever. While the chords are fun what really keeps me going is wanting to be able to play lead sections of these songs, some are simple and can figure out and memorize like the lead section of loser, but songs like midnight moonlight you gotta know music theory more which is tough at that level, so many diff guitar scales, it's overwhelming, I'm 38, hopefully someday will be able to, wish more videos showed lead sections of Jerry songs. Some are out there.
you have saved me so much money by just being able to go on youtube and learn so many songs instead of taking lessons. I can't thank you enough. you're amazing! keep it up!
Hey Marty, just wanted to say thank you. Just started playing about 6 months ago and I can already play a couple songs just from watching your videos. I'll through in a request for you also - Iration - Falling. Thanks again!
Go see Jacksnax. He nails Jerry like no one else - even adds flavors that'd make Jerry proud: th-cam.com/video/BRq2n7V52IA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=fr9CSEZ9CXWZz9UM
Awesome lesson. I figured out my own embellishments that I could handle as a noodler and even dibble dabbled playing it with power chords which can actually be done pretty decent once I figure out how to get the Asus thingy in there. Open chords still sound a little better but it was fun to play around with it.
Fuck i think ive been sibscribed for about 4 months now. I have been playing for six. I learned soooo much from this channel. This has been such great help everytime i want to learn a song
Avid fan and subscriber Marty. Do you think you could do more of the lead part of Althea? Other lessons online get bogged down in Dorian and Myxolydian. I think you could light this one up, especially since you're obviously a deadhead.
can anyone recommend more lessons like this? i really dig the finger style electric play like this song, and like chord style with embellishments. what other songs are like this? preferably marty lessons :)
Thanks for supporting! Also tons of great FREE courses at my site www.MartyMusic.com

Getchur fingerstyle practice in! I'm still shit at finger picking and usually just give up and play with a pick~
Still sounds good but doesn't have that Garcia flare, that's for sure.
yes!
Indeed!
This is one of the most addicting songs in the history of music. Such a cool groove
Althea is such a catchy groove. Thanks for the lesson Marty. May the Schwartz be with you.
Whenever I picked my guitar I like to warm up with this riff.
These dead tutorials are my favorite. I liked you as a teacher before I knew you liked the dead, then when I found out you are a dead head I've been a big fan. Been watching since the last channel
The Dead are one of the reasons I started playing a couple of months ago. Thank you!
Jerry Garcia was such an underrated guitarist. Love playin' this song!
@John Waller very few people I've talked to, even other gutair players, ever cite Garcia as "one of the greats."
He kinda flies under the radar a bit for anyone who's not dead head. Even more so Bob Weir.
The dead in general are underrated in my opinion
did garcia write this part or weir? jerry ofc plays lead on the recording and the live versions
@@JoshLouskGarcia-Hunter wrote it I believe
@@ksarecords8099 yeah bob wrote some others, one of my favorites by Bob is Jack Straw
Ahh another awesome lesson! The Grateful dead rule!
You rock Marty. One of my favorite songs since I was 15. Purchased “without a net” and heard Althea for the first time and fell in love this haunting piece of art.
Dude thanks for always putting out lessons for entire songs for free 🙌
I told Marty I was feeling lost,
Lacking in some direction...
Marty told me upon scrutiny,
That my back might need protection....
....upon scrutiny,
that I might need to practice.
Well played!
Marty told me upon scrutiny, that my picking might need direction
More like:
Marty told me upon scrutiny,
That my fingerpickin' might need some lessons...
Can you do Terrapin Station next please Marty!!!
TK FIRE Marty yes please

One of the best songs of all time.
Awesome! Like other tunes, I think that I've been playing this one for years - but you always bring in new details to the mix. Thanks again! And here's my yearly, shameless plug for a Jack Straw lesson. Take care out there.
Another awesome lesson thanks Marty… always loved this tune and will enjoy noodling with it for hours on end thanks to you 👍

Thanks again for breaking it down Marty. Another great lesson!!
you have saved me so much money by just being able to go on youtube and learn so many songs instead of taking lessons. I can't thank you enough. you're amazing! keep it up!
i was so happy when i saw that you teach this song on your channel. It's so hard to find good grateful dead tutorials on youtube.
Here before Marty's comment!! Love this song and lesson. Thank you. Learning so much from you.
Yes!!! Those who ask shall receive!
Thanks for the lesson! Everyone seems to play Althea a bit different but you take the time to go through it all ,changes and accents. Thanks again!
Woah! I was trying to learn this one after going a dead and company concert recently couldn't find any good tabs!!
Thank you!
As always, fun to play and sounds great. Thank you marty

Thanks Marty. So much room for extrapolation on this one, fun stuff.
Can't go wrong with dead lessons !
Could you do maybe a solo lesson on Althea too. This undoubtedly my favorite Dead song of all time.
Go see Jacksnax. He nails Jerry like no one else - even adds flavors that'd make Jerry proud:

Great lesson Marty! I would love more Green Day
can anyone recommend more lessons like this? i really dig the finger style electric play like this song, and like chord style with embellishments. what other songs are like this? preferably marty lessons :)
Roman, check out Marty’s Harvest Moon by Neil Young. Beautiful song with great embellishments and you can practice harmonics ✌🏼
