Great lesson and also finding it very ironic to be learning a Dead song from another Social D. fan who happens to have the same tshirt but a Gators one. lol
Well done. But I don't know why nobody ever uses the easy way to find the mixolydian mode. Just play the major scale of the 4th. So in this case, the notes are the D major scale = A mixolydian mode. Just remember you are still in A , but you can get a pretty modal sound playing as if your in D major
Except in this song he’s not using Mixo. He’s using A major scale over the A and D major over the D and then A mixo or just simply A major with flatted 7th degree which is a G, over that G. Try listening with that mindset and it works. Also A, G and D is simply a 1-4-5 in the key of D so using the D major scale over the chords will work too because it would give a mixo sound over the A
Stitch Method has a great lesson on Franklin’s tower, but he said he was going to do a part two talking about what Jerry does when the G chord happens and he never made a part two so I’m constantly wondering what he was going to add to the lesson. Does anybody have any idea what Jerry does when the G comes around?
That's not how Jerry plays the rhythm. He's playing a A shape barre chord on the 12th fret to an A shape barre chord on the 10th fret to an F shape open chord on the 10th fret.
Great lesson. Instead of viewing it as a mixolydian and having to make a dominant 7th. Couldn't you also just see this as a D major with 5, 4, and 1 chords. That way your major scale fingerings remain the same
Why do you have an American flag desecrated and tacked to your wall? It’s supposed to be flying freely. that’s the symbol that you’re supposed to be promoting is the flag flying free. I’m gonna say you need to take that off your wall and you’re gonna have to put it on a flagpole. I was a flag bearer in the military, and this is a sign of complete and total disrespect. It’s a sign that you captured the flag and stole it off of a flag pole and kept it for yourself.
Really dig your Dead lessons - thanks for posting more of them !
Awesome lesson, you explained Jerry's style perfectly. Now I understand how it all fits together.

I’m going down the Dead rabbit hole. Wish me luck
What amp do you use? This tone is beautiful
I think the guitar is not going through a stand-alone amp but is plugged into a computer through an audio interface.
