Nitrous in 20 different racing games (NFS Underground, Most Wanted, The Crew and more)

- Nitrous boost has been a common feature in arcade racing games ever since the days of Need for Speed Underground and it has now been included in dozens of different games already. Here you can see what it looks like in 20 different racing games, featuring NFS Underground, Most Wanted, Carbon, ProStreet, The Crew, Flatout and more. In most games I am showing the nitrous being used both at low speed and when already going fast. I also included a few crashes and flips again, since people enjoyed those in my previous compilations. I spent about a week on this video and I am happy with how it turned out, so I hope you will guys will like it as well. :)

Underground 1 did not only introduce a lot of JDM cars and visual customization options to the Need for Speed franchise but also the nitrous boost feature, which has since then appeared in pretty much every NFS game.
In Underground 1 you only had a limited amount of nitrous per race, which would not recharge. In Underground 2 you could refill your nitrous with style actions like near misses. The nitrous bar could be filled up twice, which leads to the more powerful boost that you can see in the video.
In NFS Most Wanted, Carbon, Undercover and several others the nitrous will simply refill over time.
In NFS ProStreet and Heat you only have a certain number of nitrous bottles and you can only use the whole bottle at once. In Heat you can choose between equipping several small bottles or one big one (which you can see in the video).
In NFS World nitrous is one of several powerups that you can use and you also get a nitrous boost for doing a perfect launch. In NFS Payback the nitrous activates with a short delay.
Flatout has boost in all 4 main games and you can refill it by smashing objects or hitting opponents.
Dirt is not a franchise where you would expect to see boost but you can find it in the spinoff title Dirt Showdown.
In The Crew 2 you can use a set of legendary performance parts to double the amount of nitrous that you can carry and since the last major update the game also has "air nitrous", which allows the nitrous to be effective during jumps.

There are several other games and franchises with nitrous, for example NFS The Run, Burnout, MotorStorm, Juiced and Street Racing Syndicate, so maybe I will do another nitrous compilation in the future when I have 30 or 40 different games with it.

In my opinion, NFS Pro Street is best one. You have to think twice before using NOS in that game. You have to full-control of your car, it's very intense, especially in Nevada.

The Japanese speed challenges are rough too. The narrow bridges, corners divided in the middle with signs and gravel, the slim toll booth gates, the outside-corner gutter right before a bridge that launches you into the wall...

Only newish nfs I liked was hot pursuit 2010 but that was a decade ago and even that game was kind of a shitty knock off of the burnout series even tho it was made by criterion themselves. HP 2010 was more of a wannabe burnout than a nfs game.

The first NFS to have Nitrous was Need for Speed Motor City/Motor City Online you could build your up vehicle from the ground up from over thousands of real world license performance and body parts it was literally THE virtual workshop. Nitrous also came from various legit manufractures with different sizes and concetrations.
The second NFS to have nitrous was Hot Pursuit 2, the cop cars and you when you played as a cop had nitrous.
You forgot midnight club 2, 3 dub edition and Los Angeles have nitrous

Midnight Club Street had a more or less lackluster nitrous boost, but still one of the earliest games to include it.

Well, in description you said that NFS Heat Boost can be used only once, while comparing to UG 1 and PS, it will recharge like later NFS Titles(from MW 2005 to latest ones)

Would say burnout has it pretty good especially 3 and Paradise.
While isolated, I'd say Paradise's nitrous is pretty hype especially with the "burnout" refill or doing stunts and stuff along with the cars seemingly endless gear changing.
Though as a whole, Burnout 3 probably takes the cake for me. Hearing the SFX after doing drifts or takedowns while boosting fast as shit rose dopamine levels to new highs and for captured the arcade racer aesthetic quite well.

In the games where you turned off motion blur, I feel there's something missed from the would-be visceral and intense nature of letting loose the nitrous. They all seem so much more sedate.

You don't need a mod for it. You can just turn it off in the graphics options. It's the setting called Particle System.
you should have looked up some burn out boosts as well.

Too bad Gran Turismo 4 (the first in the Gran Turismo series to include nitrous) isn't on this list. But maybe it's because in that game, other than a high pitched hissing sound and a horsepower boost, nitrous is like nonexistent, especially considering that there's no flame ever coming out of the exhaust pipes.
NOTE: Said flames do exist in GT4, but they only show up when the engine backfires.

If you're going to show us how it looks, maybe at least activate all the graphical options that the nitrous use as feedback? It's not that hard, even if you don't like it. Also please use correct resolution and aspect ratio on all the games!
