Today I want to show you an altogether different side to Bangkok than the Khaosan road, the shopping malls and the glitz of the Sukhumvit Road! The place I'm showing you today is very close to my heart as it's the area that made me fall in love with Bangkok.
Today I headed to a little backstreet near Wongwian Yai in Bangkok’s Thonburi area to get what could be the best Prawn Pad Kaprao I've in the city as well as one of the most unique Thai beef noodles I’ve had in Bangkok. This is Thai street food at its finest in Bangkok!
First we headed to Original Kaphrao กะเพราแท้ 1993 for some 89 baht - £2.09 / $2.48 Prawn Pad Kaprao which was unbelievable for the price given the 6 massive prawns in the dish. It’s even cheaper if you don’t get an egg at 79 baht
Directions to Original Kaphrao กะเพราแท้ 1993:

Next up it was down the soi for some unbelievable beef noodles at Rachan Noodles 50 THB a large bowl - £1.16 / $1.31

My name’s Gary and I’ve been living in Bangkok for the past five plus years and travelling Thailand for over ten. I’m obsessed with Thai street food and it’s that obsession that led me to start this TH-cam channel. I want to share my favourite hidden spots in Bangkok and the rest of Thailand so you can fall in love with authentic, local Thai food as much as I have!
I’ve never understood travelling to a town or city and not eating the local food. How else do you really connect with a place? Let’s get out and explore together and I guarantee you’ll find a whole different side to this wonderful country.
If you love seeing off the beaten path, non-touristy, local life and authentic local life in Bangkok and Thailand then this is the channel for you. If go go bars on the Sukhumvit Road are more your thing (I’m not judging) then maybe not!

Well, my most favorite Khao Soi was served in a little shop facing the Wong Wian Yai Circle! It was like heaven and butter and ice cream all rolled into one. So good. We stayed at the Bangkok Loft Inn, and there's a seafood place across the street there, so good. What a great neighborhood! The fresh markets are fabulous! Thanks Gary, that brought back a lot of happy and delicious memories!

  • @ทวีทรัพย์เจริญสุข-ธ8ข

At the table, you neglect two things:
    1. 2 bowls of soup at the shop, free. (but some stores don't) which is a bland soup but has a mellow taste Drink with rice for both dishes. make it more fluid and extinguish the spicy taste.
    2. The orange-red chili sauce in the bottle should be Sriracha or the other brand. Use it to top with fried eggs or omelettes. It's quite spicy. For those who don't like fish sauce, chili. Which will be delicious in another way...
    😋🤗🤪

There are 2 kinds of beef/pork noodle soup, clear soup and dark (in Thai called thick soup). For fish or fish ball with pork noodle soup, it is always clear soup. If we order a bowl of Tom Yom noodle , it means the cook will season the soup for you with a well balance of sourness, saltyness, spiciness, and sweetness according to the cook's preference and what she thinks will most suit the Thais' taste. So, normally, we would not put more seasoning in the soup because we go to certain noodle shops due to the way the cook seasons the Tom Yom soup. That's why she has regular customers. However, for new customers, they might order the Tom Yom just to see if it suits their taste; if not, they of course will season the soup the way they like it.😃

My sister, who came back from Thailand about 2 and a half months ago, made me dried Sukiyaki for lunch today. She puts in so many huge prawns, fried tofu, scored squid, pork & egg along with veggies and glass noodles. I ate nearly all of it, and nearly get sick from eating too much, lol. Still 2 prawns remaining, I will have that for dinner. She is the best cook in the family, you know? Sometimes she makes Pho, because her son-in-law is Vietnamese , then she'll call me to go eat with them.
The good thing when she is here, is that I get to eat good, authentic Thai & Vietnamese food. The bad thing is...I gain at least 2 pounds afterward. Then I would get on the easy step like mad to work off the pounds. Something got to give, right, Gary? Three bowls, really?😂😂😁😁

As usual, GB .. looks aroy mak! The uncooked yolk .. I don't remember where, but a recipe I read called for separating the yolk before frying the white, then adding the uncooked yolk at the end to the fried white. Maybe that's what these guys did? Also, thanks again for the English translation captioning. Even if you caption the same things in other vids .. like when you order food .. it def helps to follow along and for my own practice. Good work, mate!

the Pad kra pao kung looks very tasty, I also like to eat that, especially with that egg, which is now excellently fried, the yellow of the egg is still runny, you don't often find that in Thailand. I'm lucky, they ask me every day what I like to eat, so I'm going to eat Pad kra pao kung tomorrow. The noodle soup also looks good, but I usually eat that for lunch.

Eating my own version of pad kaprao tonight, really a fusion meal, but prawns/shrimp as sizeable, and mostly Thai, Asian, Latin and other ingredients. Actually, tonight is the leftovers from two nights ago. and I'm guessing the flavors all got together.
That nam pla ra you got for a dip with the beef noodles was what I'm trying to find, but its hard to even see a mention of it here in the US. One of these days, I will visit and will need your expertise, since I don't know if I can actually master written Thai. Keep it goin', Mate.

Pad kaprao as street food is great and all but don't dismiss Moom Gapao chain restaurant just because it's a chain restaurant. They appear to have researched what makes the best pad kaprao and it's consistently very good at all their branches. They also only use large duck eggs which you will find much nicer than chicken eggs.
