Thanks, Tony! As a retired psychiatric RN and an advid reader whose eyesite has failed, I depend on your videos to keep me on top of things at 74! Your narations are excellent and your rambles are like having a friend over for a chat. Please don't let nay sayers get you down. I listen to a bevy of similar ytubers but you are my favorite.

I love the stories. I have been introduced to so many wonderful authors. I have been promoted to buy books by such authors. Can read their short stories and pick up on the nuances I may have missed. Thanks Tony. My friday night would have been lonely otherwise (I have no human friends). spooky, huh?

I work the midnight shift, in a huge warehouse, where it is just me and one other guy. The lights are designed to go out unless you are right under them. So most of the warehouse is dark around us.

Consider this: I usually don't read comments unless I have an urge to say something that seems like something somebody else has already said so I look for someone who already said it so I can give it a thumbs up and avoid giving you another thing to read which you already read (was that a run-on sentence? Oh, well, I ain't a writer but love a good read and good listen). Anyway, somebody like me would never know you have haters who say things which haunt you unless you say something. And, it was such a surprise (for me). Just sharing a point of view. BTW, you are a good listen and good read. Thank you for sharing.

I really liked this story..all ghost stories where the ghost is a woman really spook me out and always have. This story reminded me of an episode of 'Strange but True' that used to be on UK TV in the 90"s,hosted by Michael Aspel. The episode was about a group of well heeled tourists from London, one being Joan Collins, who hired a house in Venice, Italy, for a week. Supposedly the ghost of the Comtessa used to come out of the painting..I must see if I can find it on TH-cam.

I watched a film last night called 'Burnt Offerings' (1976) which had a similar storyline as this story especially the beginning of a couple driving to a gothic looking big house given to them and their son for the summer for a very low price. Amazing author. Its satisfying to know authors like this have left such a vast catalogue. It makes me feel like we shall never run out of stories in our lifetime if there were more authors like this. I am a horror genre man but i am warming up to mixed genre movies too. Maybe you can turn your collection of books into a gothic library using your walls and then start turning your stories into gothic horror short films. Just a suggestion. Yes this story made me feel a little less lonely for a while during my escape from reality. I love that other realm of escape from this material world as i listen to your narrations in the dark.

    I enjoyed this one!
Now... As for the trolls and ogres that wind you up and manipulate you into focusing on them and their meaningless words, try very very hard- (I know it's hard, I find a mean comment will stick within my mind so much longer than a kind comment, but fuck that.) to allow the comments from those of us that adore you to take that space in your mind given to haters, to unwind you, because when you wind up a pocket watch too much it snaps and then it refuses to work...
I'm prattling... I forgot what I came her to say. I had something profound in my attention deficient mind and it was sincere but now it's lost. You, Tony Walker, are the cat's pajamas or meow or socks, whatever the saying is... 🥰

Waking the dog over 8 miles today ? It's the dog that turned you into an athlete.
the ravages of old age have recently caused me to give up my habit of many decades of taking my dog for a Daily 3 Mile walk. I was not destined to be an athlete and for me the three mile walk was quite an accomplishment in my mind . Your eight and a half miles boggles my mind but more power to you and your canine friends

Cracking story & very well read as usual … for some reason it put me in mind of The Crooked House (Mark Gatiss) I don’t know why, like Syd Barrett, I must have a very irregular head 😂

The author used the phrase "actinic glare" to describe the light during the thunderstorm; I'd never heard it before. I'm sure that's his chemical engineering education coming through. He managed to convey not only a spooky blue light, but imply that it somehow transmuted the atmosphere as well.

Interesting, UFO lights are supposed to give actinic burns to the eyes according to John Keel

I'm so glad I haven't got any paintings up in my new house yet...... so glad lol
You know the haters are that one kid sat at the back of the class blowing chewed up wads of paper at people through a straw because he can't understand the lesson, so feels bored & lonely, right...just checking you've got the right perspective on the lil gets....laugh at their ignorance & bask in the adoration of those who truly appreciate you & your work :)

I really enjoyed your comments at the end of the story so much. One of the comments you made about the accent if the reader is so important. I cant bear Sherlock Holmes read in an American accent or as you say a western in a British accent. Best wishes for your channel.

This feels like a lesson in gaslighting. So many horror stories are a woman who is pleading with her husband to believe her but he's too smart to, until it effects him. This reads to me like a twist on this trope, where he learns how it feels to be dismissed

Beautiful story and narration. Your commentary is always enlightening and provides a wonderful sense of connection to the writers and especially to the supernatural. A very short story that I think you might enjoy reading is " And Only I Have Escaped to Tell" by Roger Zelazany. It first appeared in the Twilight Zone fiction magazine back in the eighties. It's only a few pages in length but is worth the search.
    Cheers

I am very surprised I don't recall having heard of this author. At one time I considered myself a knowledgeable expert about science fiction . I suspect Glasby may be one of those writers published prolifically by British publishers like Badger books but never seen in the states. I find it very strange when I read that he has left a lasting impression on science fiction or imaginative literature. Judging by this story, he is a fine writer but I have no knowledge of his reputation at all .

A few years ago, having enjoyed Salem's Lot, I read Pet Sematary. I posted on FB that the novel was TWENTY TIMES as long as W. W. Jacob's iconic story The Monkey's Paw, and wasn't half as good. (Salem's Lot, however, is excellent, an example of what can be done in the storytelling line by adhering strictly to literary protocols; in this case, what might be called the Bram Stoker protocols of vampire stories.) The novel, which is about the dead being reanimated, ends with the main character's wife/zombie slowly opening the door and entering the house. Very widely read person, Mr. King, and I'll leave it at that. 😉

Tony, unfortunately on this medium where people can type anything, we now know along with the good comes the bad, the human condition, thankfully not everyone, it gives some people the opportunity to “spout”.. it only comes back to the schoolyard bullying , their jealousy prompts them to be obnoxious especially as they never have to say to you in person, it’s sad but as my dad used to say, in the 70’s , they just sad because they are not your friend yet. If they are expressing themselves, even negatively, they definitely listening to you. 😉👍🌻
