Ooh wow I'm a buff who went to PQ , too! My mom basically dragged me back home from Colorado. I broke up with my boyfriend of like 2.5 years after a while and I handled it in so many of the worst ways possible. This led to that and then I had an educational consultant tell me the same bs. Told me I'd be able to talk to whoever I wanted at lest once per week. Told me I'd have one roommate, AC, private bathroom, etc. Pretty sure she legitimately used the term "retreat." They even told me that I could probably bring my cat. I got there. Not a retreat - as you know. I read the curriculum which was like 75% gardening 25% therapy-related stuff back then. Immediately asked for the form to get my ass out of there. Had a breakdown. Parents said no. So I stayed.
I actually ended up benefitting a LOT from PQ, but that was before they moved. I made 95% of my progress in Kuleana and Huli and it doesn't sound like you guys got those. I was also lucky enough to have an amazing therapist that waited to quit until my grad date. Unfortunately, I ended up being sent to a transition program after PQ where I lost all progress and then some. Ended up at square -4.
Even though PQ helped me, I've definitely got some not so fun stories from my time there. Some of those being:
    - I was throwing up all day and night for my first 4 days there. I don't think they gave me anything for it. Probably fennel tbh :l
    - Picked up a rock and had ~20 cockroaches fly directly at me
    - Had a girl scream at all of us (staff and clients) that she was going to slit all of our throats in our sleep just before we turned in for the night..
    - Just constantly being terrified of cane spiders everywhere and on everything (mostly in Kuleana)
    - Fractured my finger pretty badly and they wouldn't get a splint for some reason. I had to make one out of sticks and vines and shitty tape for 4 days before they got me one.
    - One of my friends passed some kidney stones while we were there. They knew about his condition beforehand and still decided to let him writhe in pain on the deck for the entire day rather than take him to a hospital.
    - Had a friend walk off and it took staff like 2 hours to notice. He was basically already back by the time they left to look for him.
    - Had a staff member start sending me a whole bunch of dick pics once I got my phone back 3 mo. after leaving
Also thought it was super twisted that SO many girls from PQ started ending up at the treatment center I went to after PQ. I think we got 4 within a week once.. All of the mental health treatment centers (not rehabs although many are fucked for other reasons) are sketchy as fuck. So many of them just want money and a lot of them are owned by just a few companies. I'd say it sounds like a conspiracy theory but its true so.. yikes

Thank you for sharing your experience. I was there during the move, and was the last group to experience the old location and format, and the first to experience the new one including the Olena house. From my perspective, the old kuleana location and program format was much more conducive to healing, and a lot of people I was there with benefited greatly from it. After the move however, things really went downhill...... I’m not sure if you guys are still at the garden with the rest of the program but compared to what the program was before, that experience felt much more confining and prison like I’m sorry you didn’t get to experience some of the more beautiful aspects of pq, as most of that got lost in the move.

hey, i went to pq in may-august 2021 and my experience was amazing, i connected with the community and staff and it honestly wasn't that bad. the part abt food in my experience isn't true. the food that they served me was fresh nutritional and honestly i miss it. afterwards i got sent to a therapeutic boarding school and that place was terrible but pq helped me find who i am and really helped me with everything that i struggled with beforehand. PQ was wayyyy better than any other wilderness program that i've heard of, at my therapeutic boarding school there was others who went to places like trails and they would always say things like princess quest because of how much easier it is compared to the other wilderness programs there are. i would recommend it but afterwards please look into the therapeutic boarding schools if you are going to send your kid there and MOST IMPORTANTLY listen to your kid.

His parent's place was not far from the old location in Waiohinu and he said they used to hear the screams of kids being dragged in there every evening. These places need oversight and regulation or just to permanently be shut down. Parents should never sign over their parental rights to a place like this. I want to Pacific quest when I was 22 I've had a significantly different experience than you, Also detoxing was hell for me. I was there for exactly 2 months. We also did not have a second place to transition to so we were all based out of that house that was right on the ocean, And in terms of food portions and everything else everything was properly set and was very helpful for me. It has changed my life. Also there was somebody that was a part of my group that got banned from their country so this is where they sent them for Instead of going to jail, Also when I was in the program the youngest student there was 21, And the oldest was 25. Pacific questions change my life, Other than that I differ. The program helped me despite it being one of the most expensive programs in the country. $50,000 for 10 weeks. But that wasn't my job to care about how much money it was. Except for that I am on medication now in order for me to feel like a normal human being I don't mind it. thats it.

Actually yes , you could have easily walked away which is exactly what I did. But not because anyone was being mean to me but only because it was my first day there, and I had extreme anxiety at the time.
One of the staff members name Callie got in her car and drove around looking all over for me and when she found me, we just drove around for a few minute and she actually took the time to care about me and talk to me and get to know me. When I came back the staff was extremely loving and helpful and very nice and so were all of the other young adults that I was there with. Within two weeks we were all able to joke about it because I was the only young adult who “ran away“. Lol
I’m not sure how the minor section dealt with situations like this because it could be very dangerous if you were under the age of 18 and especially if you’re in a place that is miles away from your actual home. But when I ran away the staff was nothing but extremely loving towards me. Like I said I have no idea what the minors went through but this was just my personal experience.
Also because minors are legally forced to stay there, so there’s no telling what their staff does to them. I will Never speak on any specific situation that I did not go thru. But I did go to PQ in 2913 and was in the young adult section, and obviously when most of us are 19 and older there’s a lot less abuse that people can get away with.
When I was there I had a wonderful time that truly helped me heal. It’s awful to hear that everyone else didn’t experience the same.
My heart goes out to all of the people who were traumatized and abused by that place.

Here because I watched this last night, th-cam.com/video/QBPpwxfqT3o/w-d-xo.html in which a youngster about your age, gave a harrowing account of her Wilderness programme experience. She wasn't tricked in to it like you, she was literally dragged from her home by 2 strangers in the night, and, although she stayed the course, clearly has PTSD as a result.
It sounds like a misguided act of tough love by desperate parents, but more like forced servitude in a borstal/prison-like environment from what you actually experienced. Why they have to give you sh*t food? That doesn't sound right, it sounds sinister. Nutrition is key to wellness and the brain's health.
Troubles me greatly to hear that you don't feel that you benefited at all. Something's wrong if people are coming out scarred, not stronger. Sounds abusive. Plus they're making a king's ransom in the process. I'm so glad you made some lasting friendships there. Sounds as if you cut your teeth together as blood-brothers.
