I'm a former Mercruiser Master Technician and seeing all that typical corrosion and internal problems brought back memories that will probably give me nightmares tonight ! Never run the engine with the drive trimmed up that high , there are two sets of universal joints in the drive that will be damaged because of the extreme forces put on them at such tight angles , just tryin' to help , keep up on maintenance and enjoy your boat....

Thanks for the video. It's very helpful to me. I'm trying to buy a similar boat with same engine & drive here in the UK. It's great to see the engine top end internals etc., as very similar work has recently been done on that boat and I now have a better idea of what that involved.

Thank you so much for watching! Glad that you could find some use for the video . Was definitely a bummer when it required work. Was great to get it back on the water when it was done, good luck with your build! Cheers!

Fun times - we own a 1999 Maxum 2300 SC and we've loved it. We bought it in 2019 and it just had an engine replacement, so it's been virtually problem-free since we bought it...our costs have mostly been just keeping up on the maintenance, fuel, and storage costs. It's nice to have the cuddy, and every summer we've done long trips down the Mississippi, and overnights on Lake Superior, though we are listing ours for sale next spring and looking for our next, bigger boat. Subscribed to see how your adventure pans out. Happy to answer any questions you may have (ours has the carburated 350) - Happy boating!

Hi. Just read your reply and figured I'd shoot you q question since I'm looking at buying a 1999 2300 SC locally. I'm 6'3 and was wondering if you can stand in the cuddy area? Also, how is it on fuel?....and how many people can you fit on it "comfortably?".. Thanks!

@@nupe21911 I'm 5'11 - I am unable to stand in the cuddy, though I can sit comfortably down there. It's not totally uncomfortable, but it is rather small - generally, we don't use the cuddy for anything but storage unless we're actually going to spend the night on it. I would say 5 people is pretty comfortable for an afternoon cruise, much more than that and people start tripping over each other, though I believe the max rated is 10 people...which is possible, but I can't imagine it would be pleasant. It was rare that we would ever have more than six people on it, though. As far as fuel goes, I feel it's pretty good - it's a 75 gallon gas tank, and by my best estimate, we burn about 2 gallons per hour while cruising around 25-30 mph...in my experience, the top speed with the stock aluminum prop is about 45 mph.
