Hello everyone. I am the lady who was lucky enough to get #13. She is even prettier in person. I love her so much and the extra genes are a wonderful surprise. Thank you so much Tom for a wonderful animal!!
Our super tested negative too and we hadn’t suspected that the line might be a Barnhart line, but it’s certainly possible especially given how things turned out. Our parents were out of Ballroom South and The Reptile Collective’s lines, with the sire being a non-homozygous Black Pastel from TRC. It’s exciting to see what comes of these genes in general as we learn more about how they function.
That would be evidence that yours is either from the Barnhart line, or there is even a third mutation causing BP. That is possible…we shall see over time if there are more cases like yours, or if it is more likely that BPs are either the main US type, or the Barnhart line. It is very possible that we will find other mutations as well. Time will tell!!!
@@tombarnhart9764 Interesting! That would be on the mother’s side. For our sire, he is related to the Skittles chimera, do you happen to remember if that line was related to yours as well? Given the combo that created her was mostly just BP and Albino, it fits right in with what you were saying about your origins. Thank you for weighing in!
@@raregeneticsinc It’s certainly interesting either way! There’s a lot to learn regarding their genetics, I wouldn’t be surprised to see more out of the BP complex anyway. In the end, I wonder how many genes will turn out to be the same and how many will in fact turn out to be something just a little different. Or part of a cluster like DG. On a side note, I was happy to see that Morph Market has already notated that Lesser and Butter turned out to be the same gene on their website.
Also forget to mention I LOVED the format on this! With the guest and running through snakes with photo examples and results! Would love to see more of these!
Awsome show. Toms the man 😊. Thanks for the update on the genetics of his line. The asphalt/gravel comparison really made it easy to understand. Definitely looking forward to working with toms black pastel.
Thank you guys so much. Xander currently has the flu so this really made his day. Can't wait to be on the show and looking forward to the next tests. You guys are amazing. ❤
Hello, I had a pleasure to receive some Fassst test results recently, thank you! Sorry, if I am asking again about the Monrach gene, I know that the test did not work out last time. Are you still keep working on it, is there a chance it will be available soon? Magda @ Focus On The Ball Pythons.
Glad to hear you got some Fassst results! That is SO much better when it is fast, isn’t it!!! As for Monarch, it still isn’t working for us yet. There is a small chance it will still work with what we have got, but more likely we will have to sequence some more. We will be sending several more new sheds in for whole genome sequencing and bioinformatics here very soon. So hopefully we will get there before too long. We are for sure still working on monarch!!!
The next big run in early March will probably have the last of all the free DG tests. So by then we will have finally made it through all the free tests one time. Then we will start going back through them all and do any reruns. So hopefully you will start seeing some results for reruns in April and we will keep going through reruns whenever we can fit them on the big sequencing runs 👍👍
Hi, congratulations on the video!!! I am very interested in the barnhart line, so thank you very much for all information. One question, will there be new things this year with sex determination tests? thank you!!!!
We plan to make the python sex determination test a Fassst test! And colubrid sex determination should start getting run at least once a week. As for other species, we hope to be able to add Blue Tongue Skinks next, and maybe some others. We shall see!
@@raregeneticsinc Thanks for your answer. I forgot to put the species for which I am interested in the test 🤦, Tiliqua. Do you think they will have it in a short time? Thank you very much for taking the time to respond. PS: It was very nice to see Tom's surprise at some positive results 😁
Yes, always fun to see people get good news!!! As for Tiliqua, I wish I could tell you for sure. The couple things I’ve tried didn’t work, maybe the next thing I try will work, but maybe it won’t. Since it’s all new it’s hard to know for sure. But we are working on it!!!
What we learned from the Free DG testing project was that in the vast majority of cases, DGc is the only mutation that matters when it comes to affecting if an animal will be a visual DG. So now when we test for DG for customers, we only test for DGc. Getting visuals from an animal that is negative for DGc would not be very likely…but out of the over 550 free DG tests we did, there were 3 that did not fit the pattern that all the others did, so there does seem to be one other piece of information that we still need to find. But, it is something that is not very common among DG animals right now.

You picked a NICE one from an awesome person, well done! I hope you get some nice babies from her before too long!!!
She’s gorgeous!
@@raregeneticsincI 100% agree. Tom is one of the best for sure!!

I'm pretty sure Ballroom South has some of my line in their collection from many years ago so this makes sense.

Yes, I think they did with Phantom and Mystic as well!
Tom is absolutely one of the nicest guys out there. Add his beautiful snakes to the equation, and things are hard to beat.
💯!!!
Some fire in there but my soul really wants number 7!
Yes, that is a very nice one too!!!

Sweet, we had a lot of fun with it, too! We'll definitely try to do more like this. Thanks so much for the feedback! 🙏

Thanks so much, and get feeling better Xander!!!
So cool to see how much there is to learn still about these snakes and genes, the surprises never stop coming with ball pythons. ❤
💯!!!
You guys are flying through progress. The hard work shows!

Great episode!!! Always good info!!! 🙌🏽🙌🏽🔥🔥

Great animated background Kayla! Make it colorful! Maybe rainbow DNA strands
Thanks so much! And oooh, good idea! I'm gonna try to get something like that in the future! :D - Kayla

You were right, BP Barnhart line is better. It is genetically different!!
Awesome when we get to learn things like this that many of us have wondered about!!!
Fantastic episode!!! Love what you all are doing!! This information is SO COOL!!
I have not heard the Barnhart Line story so this was OUTSTANDING!!
