1:00 okay, hold your horses! My Moto X Style shot photos at 21 MP and it was amazing how much detail the camera captured. Nowadys you only find 12 MP cameras, even by motorla, and zooming in is not recommended. This frustrates the hell out of me, because that meant that my new phone was actually a downgrade camera-wise, even though it has a fancy dual camera setup.
I would hope it also helps fix a common mobile phone problem, such as face distortions regularly seen in close-range selfies. Otherwise, an improved picture quality would remain its only benefit.
I have a normal p20, I'm a HUGE fan of the secondary monochrome. Sharpness increase in normal shooting is actually surprising over covering the second sensor with a finger. Nevermind the genuinely good monochrome pictures it can produce
You talked about Huawaii but I think the Sony xz2 premium is the most evolved when it come to shooting photo or video using the two sensors at the same time.

There is a mode called live or something in my s9+, which it looks like it is the other camera, the other modes does use the first one. I think the live mode is for improving images.
My note 9 has telephoto lens main lens is working normal while "telephoto lens" works only for live focus ...i confirmed it by shading one of the lenses at a time on each mode...zoom function is for main lens only and nothing to do with telephoto...they add a telephoto lens just for live focus????

My girlfriend had a Samsung K-Zoom until just recently, she really didn't want to give it up because it had the benefit of being able to optically zoom and had fairly small footprint (h&w the smaller than an S7 with an ever so slightly chunkier depth). She only changed because less and less apps were supporting the chipset used. Samsung even still sells it!

I had a blackview with a fake second camera when i opened it it had only a dummy plastic camera
