Dog TV Daycare for Wednesdays

  • Dogs playing together in a shelter yard (like a dog park) for both people and dogs to watch. It's TV for dogs. Some barking dogs, but having fun.
    The dogs are carefully monitored by trained handlers watching for any dog conflicts and avoiding/stopping them.
    It ends abruptly, but I figure it's like "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" on the Beatles white album. Yeah, like I meant to do that.
    Your views help provide significant funding for these animal shelter dogs via Friends of Pima Animal Care Center, Tucson, Arizona, USA:

    End of each playgroup (with music):
    End of session 1: 1:43:54
    End of session 2: 3:52:18
    End of session 3: 6:20:56
    End of session 4: 8:47:09
    A short background music clip plays at the end of each playgroup session.

      @@DogPlaygroupStories yay!!! I am so glad. ❤️ these videos are really a fantastic idea for shelters to do. I love that it helps with funding for shelters but also it can give potential adopters a really good idea on the behavior and play styles of any dogs they are interested in. Just from watching this, it would give me an idea of which dogs may fit in my pack more vs. Which dogs would likely not work. I love this idea

      @@erinelzey5153 I pick parts of each video highlighting individual dogs, then put a roughly 15 minute video together with each dog's name and kennel number at the bottom of the screen and play that in the shelter lobby. People are often waiting in the lobby to speak with an adoptions councilor so it works out well.

      Nearly all of them eventually get adopted, but in some cases it can take a long time. The playgroup regular Kogi finally got adopted a few days ago after being in the shelter for a year and six days. The dog Obi with the little short legs got fostered about a week ago, later in the day after a playgroup that I was recording in, but then ran away right after that and was missing for days. He was just found recently and returned safely.

      I agree! They each have a complex personality and are fun to watch. Of course some of the dogs are frightened (I would be at first if I was a dog), but they get the chance to expand their socialization. If nothing else, the experience gives them things to think about during the long boring hours in the kennel.

    He has a little spray bottle on his belt. Is that the bad doggy spray? We used to do that for our cats, very rarely. I didn't know it was a thing for dogs?🤣

    • @DogPlaygroupStories
      @DogPlaygroupStories  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it contains water. It's an adversive which addresses one dog in a group (a shake can of rocks addresses all the dogs in the vicinity). Typically you'd start out spraying near the dog, then maybe its feet, then maybe its back, then right in the face. Normally we do this while saying something like "out" to temporarily move away, or "uh-uh" for something that should never be done. Eventually things would escalate up to Pet Corrector which makes a loud hissing sound. If that doesn't work, then an air horn.

    • @murkypuddle33
      @murkypuddle33 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DogPlaygroupStories ahhhh yeah the hissing sound lol. classic. i saw Ceasar do a hiss with his mouth and firmly tap on the back of the dogs neck with 2 fingers. the air horn lmao. i love the whole "circle of force" you guys use. very professional how it escalates depending on if the dog responds or not. :D

    Do the different coloured collars mean anything ?

    • @DogPlaygroupStories
      @DogPlaygroupStories  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, it's just a way to identify each dog. At first they all had dull colored leashes and when lots of people started watching the videos I had 24 different color leashes made. One reason is so I could keep track of which dog was which during editing. I create short videos of some dogs to help them get adopted.

    The black dog was determined to start fighting and biting.

    • @DogPlaygroupStories
      @DogPlaygroupStories  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not sure what part of the video you're referring to, but when a dog actually does decide to start fighting, everything in the yard changes immediately and it's very frightening. What's probably happening in the video is that the black dog really wants to play and the other dog doesn't (for whatever reason). In that case, the other dog will give the black dog "corrections" saying "back off". In a normal play situation the black dog would stop and go do something else. Some dogs are socially awkward just as some people are socially awkward, and it can take a lot for them to understand the social cues being given to them. The handler will see this happening and step in to stop it.

    • @DogPlaygroupStories
      @DogPlaygroupStories  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! In creating them I followed a principle that they used in the Sesame Street TV show for kids. They made the show appeal to both kids and adults so the adults would stay engaged with their kids while watching. This helps the kids to learn from the show since it seems meaningful. I figured the same would be true for some dogs, plus the advertisers would like it if more humans were watching.

    Why do the leashes remain on the dogs?

    • @DogPlaygroupStories
      @DogPlaygroupStories  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      When there's an altercation of any sort it can be necessary to separate two or more dogs very quickly without getting near their mouths. In extreme cases this can be a life or death issue for the dogs. Some dogs are conflict driven and will join in a fight, so it can be necessary to grab a dog's leash that looks like it's about to jump into a situation. The handler can radio for help or blast the air horn and people will come running to help separate dogs. These things are rare but when they happen the leashes are very important. But even without these extreme cases, dogs often don't want to leave the playgroup and we need to chase them down. If they get agitated, they can bite a person trying to grab their collar (if they don't have a leash). It's all based on experience with thousands of dogs.

    • @DogPlaygroupStories
      @DogPlaygroupStories  22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The 8-hour video consists of 4 different days of actual playgroups. Playgroups only last about 2 or 3 hours and dogs are cycled through the playgroup, so any given dog is typically in the playgroup for about 20 minutes. Some dogs stay longer if they're doing fine.

    • @DogPlaygroupStories
      @DogPlaygroupStories  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Those are RC boats and the RC boat community actually built and maintain the small lake next to the shelter with the approval of the county. The animal shelter is naturally a noisy place with all the barking dogs and the dogs can barely even hear the boats from their kennels. The behavior yard (where these videos are made) is the closest place in the shelter to the lake, so you can hear them in the videos. They're limited to Sunday and Wednesday during the mornings and I try to avoid recording video during that time. The dogs don't actually care about the boats, even the prey driven dogs. It's actually not a bad idea to put the boats near the animal shelter since they're both noisy places during the mornings.

    Wth is the noise in the background

    • @DogPlaygroupStories
      @DogPlaygroupStories  ปีที่แล้ว

      Most of the odd background noises are radio controlled model boats that race on the nearby lake. The boat racers apparently created and maintain the lake and pay a fair amount of money to the city or county to use it. Some of the odd background noises are actually control line model airplanes. I had never seen these since being a kid in the late 1960s. The planes are on wires and travel around in circles.
