I'm watching not because I own a kayak, but because I'm depressed right now and I watch random interesting videos on TH-cam. I just wanted to say thanks for being apart of my healing process. God bless.

After watching this video multiple times, I rolled my kayak in late September of 2015, during high winds and rough seas, I remembered his techniques and was back in the "saddle" in under 5 minutes without any assistance. My friends didn't even realize I had rolled. Best part? I never did a practice run. Trust me people, this method works! Thank you, Walter for sharing this crucial & valuable tip!

Thanks for this video! I'm going to go to the lake and practice this. I was on the Juniper Run when the water was usually high. While trying to go under a tree limb, I took an unscheduled swim at a location over my head. Thankful to friends, a life vest on and another tree limb a few feet down stream. I climbed in the tree down stream and made it back in my kayak. But, what if I didn't find that tree. Not so easy at 67 years young. Thank again!

I just bought my first kayak this past Saturday. I took it to the lake Monday to test it out. Once on the lake I thought about what I would do if I flipped my kayak so I tried it. I could not get it to flip back over or even attempt to get back in it. I learned the importance of always wearing a helmet too. This was very helpful and I'll try again this coming weekend. Thank you for posting this. You have helped a lot of people.

i paddle most days in the open sea where the current and tide vary often, practise your weaknesses on a regular basis. Depending on your body type (ie) tall and strong) or a bit on the heavy side, there is always a way to get back in, never panic and remember to dress for the water temperature

I used a fishing kayak 2 years ago for the first time. My SO bought it in a flea market. I encounter a hammerhead with just 25 min on it, i've heard that when a person is at risk they would experience the lifetime worth in a second, but for me was all the escenes from shark week that flashed through my brain. It was not very big, but its godspeed and sole presence scare my very soul. I kiss the rocky sand that welcomed me back. Now i make delicious meals, and take care of my flowers, and if i want a fish the market is close, am not made for the adventure...

Yesterday I tried getting back onto the kayak while at the coast. All went well, although the kayak was about 10feet away by the time I resurfaced.
Would you recommend some sort of leg strap, like windsurfers use.

    • @tlariscy
      @tlariscy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hi, I would not recommend strapping oneself to the kayak as the kayak may drag you into danger if caught in a rip current or the wind. The best thing I can advise is to be very aware of your environment and not put yourself into a situation that can get out of your control. Be safe

Does this technique get much harder with an inflatable kayak? Because I would think an inflatable would provide less leverage I try to get half my body up on there.

    • @tlariscy

Not sure about the inflatable kayak, however I have seen the Hobie inflatable and if the kayak you have are as rigid as the Hobie then it should not be an issue.

This is why I’ve been learning about outriggers/pontoon stabilizers. This I good to know but it’s also common sense. If it rolls easy 100+lbs yanking on it will make it roll again.

Exactly what happened to me today. I was for sure I wasn't going to fall in, so I didn't even think to look up tips to get back in. So I just held on to the kayak and waited for help

Glad you were able to get back to shore safely . Being knowledgeable and prepared for what may happen is what this video is all about.

First time kayaking yesterday. Kayak flipped over, and I had to be rescued. Wouldn't be nice to know about this video and put in a few practices before going out into the ocean.... :)

Great lesson, thank you. I am in the process of getting a kayak. Do the sit on kayak tip over easily? I am planning on getting the Emotion Spitfire 12' Tandem Sit-On-Kayak for me and my wife.

Hi RCMods, it really depends on the model, some are more stable than others. The width and hull shape plays a lot into the stability and overall performance.

Oh they do flip in a nanosecond when least expected. Good video, actually I like to flip my SOT to cool off in the hot Arizona sun. 😎

Hi Walt, I am in the market for a great all around yak that offers stability and versatility. I would like to not only get a great fishing experience out of one, but also get a nice ride for riding down rivers (varying in current strength) as well as recreational use such as exploring different bodies of water. I have come across two seemingly solid yaks for great prices. The first being a Future Beach Discovery 124F and the second being a Lifetime Tamarack 10' Muskie Angler. Which of the two do you think is the best option? Thank you!

Hi Jake, it’s hard to recommend a kayak that I’ve never paddled, the Future beaches tend to be heavy and I am not familiar with the other model. That being said the best advise I can give is... if you can, paddle before you buy any make or model. If buying used , anyone should be glad to meet you somewhere and let you take it for a spin. If it is retail, maybe you can search your area using social media to see if anyone has one like you are looking at and let you try it out. Hope this helps some.

I have been kayaking for less than a month so I do need to practice that maneuver. I'm also curious about one other thing, how the hell did your hat stay on through all that?
