Getting in and out of a kayak

  • Filmed at the shores' edge of Bear Lake in Seward Alaska. We operate a highly rated bed & breakfast (see TripAdvisor), Bear Lake Lodgings B&B, and use this video for instruction to our guests on a correct and easy means to enjoy kayaking during their stay. We encourage our guests to get out on our pristine Alpine like lake and paddle some or all of the 2 mile length. Many guests are first time kayakers and find this video a helpful resource for a new skill. Our shoreline offers a perfect location to utilize the technique shown in the video. As some reviewers have commented, this technique is not intended for extra large people or those experiencing knee issues. We have had guests from all over the world enjoy a paddle adventure on our lake. One lady was dress in her sahara, others in shorts to long pants - this works and keeps paddlers dry! Bear Lake offers a perfect Alaskan location to view wildlife - bear (brown and black), river otters, eagles, moose and more.

    for someone who has never done this method or even knew how to get in my kayak from shore in a calm and not akward way, this is a step by step and easy to understand tutorial. sometimes people who think they are experts at things don't remember what they didn't know when they started.

    That was marvelously done! Good clear explanation. When I kayak with my girls we do something like this. But with more hands on multiple paddles. Once one is in, she holds her sister’s kayak still. Then they take off and leave me to fend for myself….kids today!

    Thank you so much as a 64 year old male I’ve been attracted to kayaking but thought I’d only end up facedown body floating and arms flailing all about in the water! My mere thoughts have been for years paddling for serenity and pleasure in my local county pounds we have here in our county. No one until my latest research have ever offered a wetless method of mount dismount of a Kayak before.
    Many thanks.

    Good common sense information aimed at novice paddlers. Entering and exiting a floating kayak can be very difficult so supporting parts of the hull in shallow water can help a great deal. Keeping feet dry is an added benefit.

    For a folks with wood paddles or who are a little heavier than the lady in this video, you need to have your kayak in deeper water so that it floats without hitting the bottom of the shore. If you sit on a paddle as demonstrated here, there is a very good chance you will break your paddle.

    • @kevinshort3943
      @kevinshort3943 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Explorer Mike
      If you use a paddle that breaks when you sit on it, then it's not fit for purpose and likely to break in use. I would put it drive face down though.
