Agreed, I thought the same when I looked at his face. This is what I love about the way EIN administers the Secret Santa gifts. A lot of news agencies would try and keep him on the doorstep to catch his reaction on camera, and not everyone is comfortable showing their vulnerabilities like that. Nate seems to read the room and know when to keep filming and when to leave and give people their space and privacy. That's what makes this Secret Santa set-up so special (& so appreciated around the world), I think, because it feels genuine - placing the focus on truly helping people, rather than on "look how great we are" clickbait.
I agree you could tell Nate knew this guy wasn't going to be one of the more dramatic reactions and btw ...that's OK. Everyone reacts differently and it doesn't mean the guy didn't appreciate this.

I wish every state's News Crew would learn from you guys and put out loving & positive vibes like this series. Where I'm from the news is nothing but hate/violence/murder and drug related videos. That's what makes this story truly worth being made into a film. An anonymous person gives to his community every year for a decade, through a trusted newsman for two months out of the year. Only the newsman knows who he is. And the newsman isn't a regular local TV newsman, but a small independent newsman with his own little studio and internet channel and a tiny little crew of reporters. And it's watched religiously by people all over the world every year. What an inspirational film that would be -- and not knowing (or at least not revealing) who is behind it all is what makes it so much more meaningful and mythological! How hollywood hasn't come knocking to tell the story is beyond me.

I have been watching these videos for years and almost cry at everyone. After working my same job for the past 15 years, I was awoke this morning, the day after Christmas, to a text saying the restaurant I have worked at is closing...immediately. I sit here at 6:49, 55 years old, carless (thats another story, a tree fell on me a few years ago and totaled my car), thinking what next with life? I'm going to keep try to keep my head up, just had groceries and pet supplies delivered for the next week, in hopes things change soon. xx

Looks like part of the frugal is keeping the house temps low, reminds me of drawing pictures on the frost on the inside of the windows when we were kids. Our parents kept the thermostat down, especially at night, but also before the advent of double glazed windows.
It's AMAZING to think how many people/families 'just' ONE MILLION DOLLARS can help out, and even change lives! I know this guy who inherited approximately 55 million dollars, and i'm trying to convince him to be a 'Secret Santa' of sorts! He's a single, very lonely man (he tells me he's not attractive, and doesn't date) that lives in an incredible NYC apartment, and doesn't do much of anything other than go to a gym and watch TV all day! He still drives his old VW Golf he's had for 22 years, and wears Heavy Metal band t-shirts and jeans all the time! Like Charlie Sheen or Donald Trump, rumor has it that he sees 'escorts' to fulfill his certain 'needs'. I've done a lot of flooring and kitchen renovation work for his huge apartment loft, and have become friends with the guy. I'm hoping he 'comes through'!
He looks stunned. He's chillin at home with his blanket robe on and Nate hands him $5000 worth of gift cards! That will help out alot with 5 children.
